Basically he said we need 10K every game to break-even. We are seriously looking at 3-4 players. With us signing 2 strikers, an AM and a few youth players.

Looking for two strikers and an attacking midfieler.
If we make the playoffs (Which are a month away, so wont clash with the sevens) the first leg will be away and 2nd at home.

Good interview, interesting that we need 10 thou each game to break evenish, 3 key signings for next year in 2 strikers and an attacking mid, two or three youngsters aswell. Would seem to suggest to me that Doddy has resigned or will. Malcolm Jordan bit of an idiot not knowing that the playoffs were home and away

I don't think the host was that keen to talk about the nix so he tried to move the conversation on to Jimmy Cowan, the Tennis and the Yachting.

Not happy to hear we need 10k crowds to break even. What are we averaging this year? 7000. Well that means we are 3000 short each week multiply by $20 per head = $60,000 per week loss multiply by 12 home games = $840,000 per season.
Eeeek!!!!!!!!!!   Pleased I don't own a footy team.

some scary numbers there, did we avg 10k last season???

Average was just over 11K last season. I think.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Well Tony said that most clubs wouldn't make a profit and that our loss this season will be lower then last season and that we are covered for the loss.
Permalink Permalink

Thats $20 minimum too.
Consession and Adults are over 20 so the loss made would be alot closer to 1m

you have to take into account the number of tickets that are complementary. breweries, Sony other sponsors get heaps to give away, with those, there are quiet a few in the stadium that didn't pay anything.

I wonder how much better we do for merchandise sales having the club shop in the city centre compared to other clubs.

Although I do tend to see more YF apparel than official Nix gear around - so we might even be screwing the club on that front!!

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

tbf there are a lot of people in yellow fever tees but then they also have a hat or a scarf so the club still gets a bit from that

Not really as i doubt there is any shirt in the Phoenix shop that you could get at the same price as a YF one.

We knew last year that we needed to average around 10k per game as well.  People don't normally purchase sports teams to make money, and Terry will know that like most businesses you can't expect to make profits in the first couple of years.

With some solid signings and potentially a place in the playoffs crowds next year should pick up.

I thought everyone knew that we needed 10k to break even tbh. Said it last year.

I think we need to sign more than just two strikers and an attacking midfielder that Tony P mentioned, i.e., we need more than just three principal additions. In my opinion, we need at least 4 or 5 quality players to boost the current squad, including possibly a marquee signing.  And, of course, we need a keeper to replace Moss.

I think this season we've averaged probably just over the 6,000 mark and that includes the complementary and free entries.  That's way off the break even target of 10,000 and well below the average attendance of over 11,000 in the first season.  That's not sustainable in the long term and the club needs to start increasing its revenue, as I'm sure that Terry S is not a bottomless pit in regard to funding the Phoenix.

The club has really got to aim to be the preferred professional sports team to watch in Wellington.  They proved they can do it in the first season, so what's happened?  I really think it primarily comes down to the quality of entertainment.  To increase the quality we need to sign players who can really put on a performance and who the public can really associate with and take to their hearts (here, a good marquee signing would assist greatly).

I think Wellington will get behind a well-branded, winning sports product that excites and entertains, as was proven in the first season.  However, if we  play the standard of football that was generally displayed this season, I can see attendances further declining next season.

Mix the two, I wear my Yellow fever hat and official strip/polo neck.

I actually bought the polo neck last week and then a few minutes later ended up shaking the hand of Bertos outside Pennyfarthings

I worked it out a few months ago and I think me and the missus have but several grand into the club.

Terry bought the club to increase his and his businesses profile, which he's done very well.
What he may lose, he gains in other areas. That's why he sponsors the Wellington Cup and also The Saints

ive got a feeling spoonley will be back.

Terry is a smart business man and will know that the majority of businesses dont make a profit in the first 5 years.

I would buy more official stuff if it was reasonably priced. As it is I am more likely to buy a fever t-shirt for $35 than a strip for $130 (I mean WTF??? Strips in the UK are cheaper than this, Hibs ones are $100). Even the other stuff is up at $60-$80 which is too much.

That said, I do have a mug and some socks from the official shop
