He's gone to China and he's definitely not good enough.

Japan now, China won't pay his wages.

Our 3 Croations have gone home for the summer but my source has told me that they would like to stay at the Nix. This source knows them personally through the Croation populous.

They might be shocked if we get the usual Wellington summer unlike the amazing one just passed.

Phew, anyone bagging Ridenton or being pleased that he - a 22 year old midfielder being asked to play a deeper role than he's suited to - has gone, really needs to consider how much of a rebuild the team needs now and whether the Nix actually have the ability to replace him and the 95% of the team that needs it.

Ridenton wasn't the finished article, but he wasn't a burden on the side. We've lost a good player. Again.

Good, but irreplaceable, I'm not so sure?

With Singh comng through, we don't need to look at importing a 10 like we have done previously, and instead can maybe look for two quality CM's / DM's.

Obviously Ridenton is not irreplaceable (He was my favourite player from last season regardless) but the question is will he actually be replaced properly? I don't want to see a older journeyman filling in when I could be watching a young kiwi talent progressing further next season. Best of luck to Ridenton at the Jets, it is certainly a better way for him to spend 2 years if nothing changes here.

Some of you seem to be expecting a lot of Singh yep he sure is a great looking prospect for the future. But to expect him and some of the other young guys to take much greater responsibility is expecting a bit much. If some of you think some of the old pros in the A league are going to take it easy on them you need to think again.

Young players can make the difference like Arzani... or even Carcace as a LB for us.

He ended up as our second joint top goal scorer playing only a handful of games and created a lot in addition - i think having high expectations in this case are fair enough.

It's a pity, he wasn't the finished article but he probably was more effective than Paracki over the season.  Our midfield was still a problem area and it always pains me when a young kiwi leaves for an Aussie club.  I agree he is replaceable, but will he be adequately replaced?

Yep fine to have high expectations but still think it's a bit much putting to much on these guys at this stage. How quickly will people turn against them if they don't produce the goods from the start. Not sure they would be able to cope if they got the same treatment Roly used to get

Still not convinced we've replaced Tim Brown, so I'm not holding my breath.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Ridenton said in the stuff article he was waiting to see who the new coach would be before he decided. It's taking so long a good offer came and off he went. C'mon welnix FFS.

Not a like for like replacement in playing style.or head bandage. But when it came to the blame game he was starting to become like Tim in that many people blamed him for much that was wrong with the Phoenix and his passing seemed to be always questioned when plenty of others were just as bad.

That was one of the reasons, though the article is titled "New Newcastle Jets signing Matthew Ridenton sold on stability" with the first line of the article "Matthew Ridenton has revealed that the uncertain future for the Wellington Phoenix was a major factor in his decision to leave the football club."

Rumored to have have rejected $100k here but not sure if it was one or two years on offer or if AUD or NZD.

Ouch. Appreciate some of it is somewhat out of hands, but it's seriously concerning we had players saying the same thing last season.

Reckon the article has played that up a bit. A factor but not the only one

Well for Ernie to use one of his import slots on Matt says bucket loads about what he thinks of him. Congratulations Matt. To me it also says we have lost out big time.

I have no doubt he will score some spectacular 25 yarder against us. Always happens in football.

Yes after scoring no goals  in the season just completed from a number of good chances being presented to him.

In fact he missed some "sitters"

Sad to see him leave, he missed some tap ins but he created the most scoring chances for our team this season and was a workhorse on the field for youngster. Way too much pressure and criticism directed to him compared to the likes of his other midfielders and peers, maybe it was the missed tap-ins or chances. Seemed it turned from Keegan to Ridenton pretty quick. There are a few players from HandyPrem level that I think could step in such as Tim Payne or Andy Bevin but they would probably prefer their current teams to the Nix.

Can't help but feel that this is a bit of a death knell for our club. If we can't even keep young kiwis, when they are counted as imports for other clubs, then what are we even doing?

I could understand losing Rojas; he was at a higher echelon than Ridenton and obviously attractive for a club like MV. I could understand losing Kosta; not much game time. But Ridenton? He's a good player, but not a prodigious talent like Rojas, and he has been getting consistent game time.

Death knell? A bit harsh on Ridenton and the club don't you think. Regardless of some people's low opinion of his talent, the kid was just picked up by this year's grand finalist to take up one of their limited import spots. They clearly place a lot of value of him and have probably given Matt a fairly sizable contract. We should be praising the club's youth systems for being able to develop young players that are wanted by other clubs, that to me is a huge sign the club wants to succeed long-term.

Next person that uses the "created the most scoring chances" stat should be banned - it doesn't really tell you anything other than a player took a lot of set pieces. Heck, if a 'keeper took all the set pieces he will be the highest in the team for creating the most scoring chances but in NO way does it reflect creative ability from open play.

Be careful what you say. Do you really mean that? Do you really think that?

Well, if the plan is to create a team full of Kiwis that fans have some sort of connection to I can't help but feeling we haven't started very well.

Wow that's a bit extreme.

A scoring chance is a scoring chance, maybe the fox guys can make some new stats that are actually relevant. Until then he is our chance created king of 2017/2018!

I keep seeing it being used and because the data does not differentiate on how the chance was created it provides little context on a players ability.

McCowatt, Hudson-Wihongi, Gulley, Payne, Howieson. Whether they want to come or not is a different question.

If we're speaking imports, I'd pick one of Berlanga, Zubikarai or Kayara
