Think they are hoping there will be another import, a yoof player, a squad player and a starting quality ANZ player.

Not sure where they'll find them this week though.

Has Mathieu Flamini found anyone to run his businesses in the UK?

We're signing Nadal. That's all I got from this thread.

youth player as we all know is probably Elliot, import will probably be Mandi, unless last minute we find someone better who doesn't need to trial. I agree though that the squad player and starting quality Aussie/Kiwi player will be a bit of a mission to sign. There's no one really left, not sure what the club will do. Exciting but stressful stuff.

A bit stressful ? They have still got a whole three working days left before last 4 spots need to be confirmed. With NZF track record on transfer paperwork. What could possible go wrong !!

is this like how you said a huge signing was on its way after rufer was signed and then nothing since has happened?

If there is only 2 weeks left, isn't there by the very nature of time, a higher chance of any news being sooner, rather than later?

Turns out the club was talking to a few big names though that all fell through.

Exactly, no doubt one of those players was who Tonya referred to.

Elliot played LWB for NZ age group, and appeared to be playing RW in the Handa last year.

If he's signed, and Rudan sticks with 5-3-2, it could look like this:

There's plenty of cover in the backs. Rudan might be looking to sign an extra forward (who knows who), and a couple more mids, e.g. Mandi and Burgess. I'd be happy with those two.

Two DMs and one AM is another more defensive option.

Better IMO -  Max Burgess 2018 highlights vid.

Starting CAM for the champion of the strongest NPL. Big, strong, skilful, good touch, passing and vision, and a strong L foot shot. In the NSW NPL team of the year.

He obviously has his reasons, he's seen enough of both of them to make the deicison. If De Jong was obviously better, I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be signed.

Do they even play the same positions?

Singh and Nichols will both need to be on their toes. Has a decent R foot too.

Sounds like this guy has some good pace, guess that is what made him stand out more than ADJ.

And he had two looks at de Jong apparently. His team, his choice- perfectly happy with that

You guys are all correct - it is his team and he can do what he likes.

I would like all of you then to think twice when you complain about the NZ quota at the Phoenix if this guy does not pan out and 'signing Aussie kids that are poor over Kiwi kids' ala Shermy, Caira, Galloway, Parkhouse, Downey..... I'll even throw in Italiano because for 5 years that he was getting splinters, he was shown to be quite poor when he got his shot. It may not have worked out better for a Kiwi but at least the by-product MAY have been increased competition at an AW level

Burgess could well be a better signing - but to what degree? One would suggest the gulf between Burgess and de Jong (based only on what I have read and also comparable NPL form) is fudge all. I know who would infinitely benefit more from the professional contract AND as a by-product also be developed for the AWs

I think I have made my point.

How about we just get the best XI that we can on the pitch to try and not come last and build from there? Personally don't think there's any room for sentimentality when signing Kiwis especialy when we're on a ticking clock (albeit one that has a bit more time on it than it did a few weeks ago). Having said that, I'm not one of the people lamenting the lack of NZers in the squad.

There was talk about having more of a Kiwi focus this year, so I can see why people are disappointed that he has only signed Rufer so far. I guess the club thought they would be able too lure some Kiwis back & they didn't count on being rejected by all of them, including some Handy Prem guys.
