I don't care if we beat Liverpool in a pre season game

We have a shark squad and a shark side at the moment and someone needs to start spending some money

And that's Morrison

Too busy getting chicken and chips in Marton...

Sounds like the defence must have done well last night, so at least getting Taylor appears to have made an immediate difference.

I'm gonna suggest this again cuz if we are gonna play 3-4-3 with Fenton as the RWB, we really should ask the Roar about loaning in Dane Ingham. He is well down the pecking order for them & signing an AW is always good press. I know a few people here don't rate him but its a low risk, high reward move & we really need some depth.

not a huge fan of Dingham, and he reminds me of Hudson (but harsh because I suppose that's not his fault), but I have to agree that this would be a sensible move

Thanks for clearing that up, I thought it was strange that we were playing an under 14 side

Yeah Honda looks pretty serious all the time, not sure about the other bloke

I'm still confused as to how Honda made it into their full strength under 14's team. Is there some sort of marquee player age exemption rule?

If Honda does not perform they could always approach Joel Stevens and arrange for a straight 1:1 swap with his club. Nothing would match that headline: "Honda is the new star for Husqvarna".

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Surely no A-League team has ever been less than 3 weeks out from the season with only 16 players signed. I mean, I trust the club has a plan but jesus. Four or five October signings is pretty strange

Really??

no main striker is a real worry.  Youve got Bulut Babalj and Djite all free agents right now, all proven scorers in the A league.  surely the club isnt dumb enough to not pursue.  imagine getting djite having him alongside burns.  would be like old adelaide days for them.

Bulut!? Didn't someone here a while ago bring up the fact that there's an unspoken 'no dickheads' policy at the Nix?

That went out the window when we signed Nicholls

I would like to think they do. Or at least Rudan does. I hope.

Sounds like its because we will be playing 3-4-3, so after a RWB who is more attacking than a converted CB.

yes but who on earth will that be other than Fenton? Because we still have no player who plays right back or right wing back as their primary position. If Fenton gets injured, which let's face it is definitely within the realms of possibility, who the hell can play right fullback? Lowry? Fox? People suggested that Gulley was passed on because he was too attacking for a 4 at the back. I hope that's not the case, would look awfully foolish now if that was the case

Having a player, like either Gulley or Tratt, who can easily play on the right side of a three at the back, or right wing back, seems logical to me.

When I heard that Tratt wasn't wanted, I assumed that someone else must have beaten us to his signature

I assume you're referring to the Gulley who was let go by the Phoenix a few years ago? Even that statement, not by you but by others, I feel is incorrect. The Gulley of the past 2 seasons has more than proven his ability to defend.

There are two ways to defend, either with a tight shape where player proximity is important, or through individual technique. Particularly when Team Wellington play with a back three, where the left and right sided defenders are given little protection from the players in front of them, Gulley has consistently shown excellent defensive technique.

It looks like we have enough defenders or DM players if we sign Mandi. With Taylor, Durante, Doyle, Fox, Lowry, Cacace, Kopa, Fenton and Mandi. Plenty of cover there. What the Nix need to sign is more attacking midfield / strikers where we have limited injury cover atm. Thats why Burgess likely to get signed instead of Tratt. Yoo will then likely come on board when Krishna gets his citizenship.

Am surprised De Jong is not in the mix anymore. Rudan must have something else up his sleeve.

So what are the chances we have asked the FFA for an exemption not to have a minimum squad of 20 as a way of keeping spots open??

If not... it will be an exciting last day for the transfers to come through.

Permalink Permalink

Given his previous challenges, is there a possibility that Tratt decided we were not for him? Too far from family support networks and that sort of thing.

Rather than the other way around as we have all assumed. Being in Aus last week for the week might has bought it all into perspective for the lad.

Permalink Permalink

Whatever it was that made it not possible, I hope the lad is happy. Can't wait to see him at Westpac again some day, whether for us or another a league team. He sure as hell deserves it. One things for certain, he'll always be a fan favourite round these parts

0% chance. The transfer window closes on the 15th October, once that closes we will be limited to signing unattached players. Since that is what we seem to be targeting, I guess we will probably wait until the last couple days and grab 4 on one year deals.

I have a feeling of the min of 4 they'll sign 2 or 3 kids on min wage and then shift them into youth contracts outside of the cap when someone better comes available if they have to.
