Would really like Rudan to get the gig. We need to be ambitious, and appointing Des or Greenie is just signalling more of the same ie trying into scrape into the top 6 of a ten team league - and that ain't gonna cut it to the 5 to 6,000 (above the core support) who now don't come to Nix games.

There is zilch fizz out there in the market, hasn't been since Nov, and only big change is going to give us a chance of turning that around.

Just hope the Board realise the recent results are totally deceiving. This side wouldn't be able to live with any of the top 6 in a playoff game away from home. We've seldom be able to match the intensity for 45 mins, let alone most of the 90.

Not sure what else the team can do other than pick up results... The results perfectly reflect how we performed in those matches...

oh God no...

the idea has been floated by at least one person inside the phoenix... and it actually makes sense. FFA aren't gonna kick us out of the league if Harry Kewell is our assistant manager - he'd also help bring Aussie players to the team which we are going to struggle with now that Ernie isn't running recruitment.

talk about eye off the ball

genuinely don't understand what you mean?

Should state that I would hate it if Kewell was appointed, but it's not an entirely stupid idea like some are claiming...

I disagree. It is a stupid idea. He has no experience coaching senior players and a poor record coaching U23s. We should be appointing staff on the basis of their skills and experience, not because of who they are.

Would he really help attract players here? It's not like he's got a great career as a coach and guys would be lining up to play for him on that basis. He might have some decent contacts but that's about it. I'd still prefer Rudan who pretty much ticks all the same boxes as an Aussie ex-pro whose appointment might stave off criticism from some quarters across the Tasman. Only difference is Rudan actually has a good coaching record.

Good coaching record coaching the big fish in his league... Much like Ramon...

Still better than Kewell. And actually experienced at managing a senior side, which Kewell isn't. Sure, managing the Nix would be a very different prospect to managing ACFC or Sydney United but we shouldn't dismiss coaches for being successful at clubs where success is expected. That seems counterintuitive to me. Hell maybe we need a bit more of a "big club" attitude anyway, because our plucky underdog thing hasn't exactly been working. We might not have the resources of the big boys but we have shown we can go toe to toe with them so why hang on to the premade excuse of being NZ-based and not as rich? All that does is install a losing attitude from the start. Instead, let's get a bit of arrogance and hunger and ambition and self-belief!

It would be interesting to talk to coaches/management of both the chiefs and the highlanders to see how they turned around the club culture from being loveable losers to title winners. I think you are right in that the biggest reason we didn't make the playoffs this year is attitude.

Writing them off after a single half of football where our goalkeeper forgot to goalkeep?

Losing 4-3 away to the third place team in the competition is hardly a bad performance.

how about a two shark house displays against WSW. Two draws against Adelaide. You have interviewed Des. You get your beard trimmed where he does I get that you like him but do you seriously think he is going to be a manager that will see the Nix survive because that is what we are now talk g about. Being also rans will see us without a team

3 -1 up at half time. We change our defensive shape and loose 4 -3 ? You call that a good performance?

Personally, I think it's time for a fresh face in the coaching department, in all positions.

I didn't mean to this, two goals should have been saved but Italiano, otherwise it was a young and unconventional back line do it wasn't unexpected.

Where they allegedly made defensive changes at half time and we were instantly over run? You can't blame that defensive performance on Italiano. There was soo much space in front of the back four

Things looked better under D & G than they did under Ernie but not better enough to justify giving them the job permanently IMO. However I strongly suspect that WelNix will rehire them because WelNix tend to be conservative and risk averse around these sort of decisions, at least as far as I can tell.

Moss would have got down to the low shots a lot better.

Now we're into the off season (for the Nix, anyway), should either Des or Greenie stay on as assistant coaches? IMHO neither are up to the top job, but have they done enough to stay in the coaching mix? Or - in an ideal world - would/should that decision be left to the new, incoming, head coach?

I'd prefer a completely clean slate personally. Nothing personal but I think the players need to feel like they are starting fresh again and having previous coaches still around makes that harder.

A good assistant is one that is strong in areas where the head coach is weak. That's why Trani was a good fit with Ricki. Pick the head coach first, then see what support he needs.

They did a good job and I wouldn't mind one or both getting the job, it really depends on the calibre of applicants.

Des will stay on as goalkeeping coach at the very least. Nobody else in the country has the required badges to do the job. Phoenix can't really afford to get rid of him for the sake of it and try and find a new keeping coach from overseas somewhere.

Leggy and Dale for the gig? Who would be the assistant?

With todays technology no need for you to even cross the ditch then you handle all the games in OZ. For christsake Dale will be dong his coaching from either Four Kings or BB.There you go Welnix sorted probably wont cost much as we all no they are cheap.LOL
