This quite weird, someone smarter than me explain why we can't announce the coach?

Two reasons I can think of:

1, If you name them and for some reason it falls through (immigration etc) you get lambasted by the media and internet warriors for announcing it and it not happening.

2, You miss the chance of the unveiling and meet the press announcement combined.

They probably will want to present him in person for the cameras. If the media know who it is, they might not think he is worthy of sending a camera crew out.

the full quote is even more interesting

I too would like a keeper who commands his box better, especially in the air, and who can improve on Moss' distribution.  Kudos to Mossy, he has done a good shift for us and I wish him well.  But if the new coach expects better and thinks he can do better, then I like.

The Dome email says they have done 6 weeks of "winnowing applications" and conducting interviews, so counting back that means they had applications to winnow from 7 April.  That's before the last two rounds, the Sydney 1-1 and Brisbane 3-4.

I think that gave Des and Greenie a decent, fair shot, but also didn't waste time getting the process started.

You also get two news cycle hits

1. Phoenix signs overseas coach

... suspense, anticipation, conjecture

2. Phoenix unveils new coach

Two hits is better than one

Hmm, feels like maybe they have been bounced into this announcement

What does pending flights mean?!  Translated, we hope he actually gets on the plane!

Because there's something to say. I think it's good. We know they've signed someone, so we can chill out a bit on that front, and we get to speculate for a couple of weeks to see who it is. Good on them. Better to put as much info as reasonably possible out there I reckon.

And people on here have been complaining that the team has been too slow to react, and that they don't communicate enough with the fans.

Isn't this the obvious question - if we aren't announcing him have we actually signed him?!

Knowing our luck, we're waiting for Moyes to be sacked by Sunderland.

There is no way in the world they'll be able to keep this quiet is there?

I am now happy, all some of us wanted was to know they haven't been sitting on their hands and have been looking for a while. If they are to be believed they decided a little while ago and the contracting/releasing has been undertaken with input from the new manager and that certainly allays my fears they were incompetent and fluffing around.

I know it was probably unlikely but they did need to let us fans know and keep us happy. Its a very fine line between being interested/apprehensive and just plain fudgeed off because of piss poor communication.

Apologies if this has already been covered but:

Do we know what staff Ernie has at Jest?  Any possibility that Greenie and/or Des could be heading in that direction as well?  Reasonably common for a new manager at any club to want to bring in his own staff as well

Thank god. Wasn't Pearce recently discovered as statisically the most average manager of all time? Or do I misremember?

So did the club. Dome said he sent his CV but they dismissed it immediately. Someone on here said he also applied for the Tasman united job but they couldn't afford him.

Wasn't that hotshot 2015 Under 20's Austrian coach keen to emigrate here? Can't recall the name but reckon he would have applied.
