Are they seriously suggesting Vladimir Petkovic???    I can't think of any other "Swiss/Bosnian" coach.

There's this chap: Darije Kalezic

Kalezić won the 2nd tier Dutch title in his first season but when he moved to the Conference Premier with Stockport County he ended up leaving by mutual consent, with the club saying this "The reality is that despite our best intentions we believe that we got the decision to employ a manager without Conference experience wrong, and with seven cup finals remaining we have to try and make a positive move that will give us a better chance of retaining our Blue Square Premier status". Guessing his Dutch style really wasn't suited to the lower leagues in England.

Seems to have kept Roda (Juric and De Silva on their books) up in their first season back in the top flight, before heading to Saudi for the money.

"Kalezic was appointed Roda JC boss at the start of the season and guided the club to a safe 14th place. However, after making critical comments against the clubs Technical director Ton Caanen on the last day of the season, Kalezic has been sacked."

According to a Roda JC Tweeter that messaged me, Kalezic has close ties to Han Berger. So another link to the A-League there.

Anyone know how his teams play? Seems to be a bit of a journeyman coach. 

At least he has some youth experience.

Arsenal are an extreme example of a club where a coach has total control. Many others would have a Director of Football on top of a coach who is where the buck stops and decisions are made. Sometimes that person is also the coach, or sometimes the coach effectively gets his way. I think it's fair to say the Phoenix have suggested they see the more institutional aspects of the club being more powerful than whoever is the coach at any particular time.

Dunno if I call him a Journey-man coach - he's only 47 and had a playing career that finished in 2006. He's jumped to a few clubs, but they look like clubs that were under performing when he inherited them - so it appears he was dealt shark hands. 

Irrespective, his managerial stats don't look overly impressive. That being said, the A-league's a totally different kettle of fish from Europe.

There's also no confirmation this'll be our chap. I just jumped onto Transfermarkt and matched a Swiss/Bosnian (or Bosnian-Swiss in his case) manager that was out of work in the past couple of years. Even then, I only looked for those that had pictures against them to quickly filter results. If the info posted earlier is incorrect then we could be barking up the wrong tree (fiddy)

I think in some models the coach pretty much has control over the playing budget and can choose which players they sign (or have a lead role).  From the sounds of things the coaches at the Phoenix recommend players but don't have the final say, and potentially other players are signed without the coach saying yay or nay.  But that's only reading between the lines.  It is being mentioned a lot so someone somewhere is bringing this stuff up

Has a decent amount of youth team experience and I'm sure he'd be looking at an A-League gig soonish.
