No new pod this week sorry. We were down to two of us available on recording night and we couldn't lock in the guest we were hoping for.

Never mind, I'm sure you'll have a new coach to discuss if you leave it till next week!

I didnt get the message ??
The Ruf, The Ruf, The Ruf is on Fire!!
haha that old chestnut
It's a fair chestnut. If you had to pick between the 2, what would you choose? Because it's possible that's a real question.
They're not shopping home away from home games for nothing.
But the reality is if fans don't want games going elsewhere then fans need to turn up when they're here. And not just the few of is that show up no matter how shark we are.
The only way the club succeeds in the long-term is by building the fanbase in Wellington. I think greenie makes a fair point - what is the long-term strategy in taking more games to Aussie.
It clearly has an impact on home interest because it breaks up the season, it has a sporting impact because it's more games being taken away and are we really going to have no games in Auckland (when we have always been told that we need games in Auckland because the sponsors demand it). Again, this is being floated as something that the club "has to explore". Well does it? The WELLINGTON PHOENIX playing HOME games in SYDNEY sounds absolutely fudgeing mickey mouse to me.
What about appointing a coach, giving them control over signing players, backing young kiwis, making players and management available to the media so fans (not just hardcore) know what's going on, recruiting a CEO who has some idea about football and giving it a proper go in Wellington rather than trying to deals around the country (and now in Australia) a strategy which to date HAS PATENTLY NOT WORKED!
Normo's coming home
How can the club plan for anything long term?
Exactly. a 20 year plan falls over if the team gets kicked out in a year or two.
If we hire a coach and all of the above requests, we still have a bad season (spoiler: only one team gets to win), and crowds don't go up, we may not have a team in 2 years.
The long term plan that fans want might stop the long term plan from having a chance to happen.
None of us know what the actual metrics are, and none of us know how close or far we are from meeting them.
I would assume that if we could hit funding and the metrics while never having to leave Wellington, we wouldn't.
And the fact that these options are even being looked at, implies to me that we are looking to fall short of those metrics.
Hence the "old chestnut" of would you rather have most game in Wellington, or no team. because every long term goal relies on the short term not shutting the whole thing down.
IF the only way we could have any Nix games here was some in Aus, I would begrudgingly accept it, as it's better than nothing to me.

Did someone get poisoned by the quiche?
Auckland will rise once more
haha that old chestnut
Perhaps you haven't stood under the chestnut trees for as long as I have Feverish. Sadly I have supported NZ's last two professional clubs that have not met the metrics and not been able to continue. When I used to drive the four hours to Auckland to support the Knights, I was always astounded that there are so many footballers in Auckland who couldn't be bothered going to support the club in their city.
Hence bye bye Knights.
You might think it is an old chestnut, but I see a Wellnix group under pressure and hopefully doing whatever they can to keep the club going. I hope to continue to get down to Welly when I can to see my club play.
Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet
I think he is actually seeing seeing the opposite ( an owner whom is trying to flick it on )

What the guys raised in this pod about the metrics was interesting. There's this misconception that if we don't get the required metrics we're automatically going to get kicked out, when in reality it just means our conversation at the end of the season will be different.
Like you've said, if throwing a few games over to Sydney for two years is what it takes to increase our fan base/metrics, I'll also begrudgingly accept it; but my concern is it's not a surefire way to do so. Yes West South Sydney will promote it to their fans for their own benefit, but that doens't mean they'll turn up.

Honest answer lads - was Rudan the "guest" and were you ITK about the signing?
Either way, looking forward to this weeks pod.

Honest answer is no. No-one in the Fever knew it was Rudan prior to today. Though we are trying to line him up in the coming weeks

Ha it's very rare we are ITK about much at all.
We are recording tonight and have guests. I think they will make it quite apparent who we were hoping to have last week.

The failed applicants?
The Ruf, The Ruf, The Ruf is on Fire!!
As promised in the recorded but yet to be release pod:
"He's operating a turnstile down the left flank"
New pod!
Mark Rudan's been unveiled as the new managed of the Phoenix, the pod discuss what we think he'll bring to the club and if he's the guy we need. Meanwhile, Ross Allen and Scott Hilliar from Team Wellington join the pod to discuss their Champions League success, and what's next for Team Wellington.
Yellow Fever - Misery loves company
Good pod, boys, but an unnecessary own goal with the name of our new coach. He's not Roo-dan and I think this clip should settle it.
At about 25 secs he's introduced by the Fox host - who's sitting beside him - as Mark Roo-din.
Yes. Masters of the English language the folks at Fox.
But they probably know the names of the people who work alongside them.

Or they can't pronounce it properly, and Rudan is not all that fussed about it (which, by the way, is a very common experience for people of non-English background in Aus and NZ).

Wasn't Greenie assistant back when Ernie was here?
Yes, but he wasn't Assistant at any point last season, and can no longer as the rules have changed (unless they change again in his favour)
Where is the link to Cam's World Cup tipping comp?
Oh... I found it. Sounds like fun.
Flick me a DM on Twitter or Facebook (Photomac page) with your email address and I'll flick you all the det's

First you needed a pro licence to be coach, then you needed a pro licence to be an assistant coach, and now you need to be on the pod to slag off Patrick! Everythings going to hell!
The episode name is still making me laugh. Thanks fellas.
Listened to the episode again and god it's good hearing the team be optimistic.
