Phoenix City - Farewell

I must admit I hadn’t listened to a YF podcast since In the Zone wrapped up…but I really enjoyed this episode of Phoenix City and have now subscribed – great job, team.

I must say, Scotty came across as a very measured person – let’s just say he doesn’t always appear so in the heat of the game. But he certainly seems to have his head firmly screwed on his shoulders and a remarkable drive to succeed.

It was interesting to hear about all the agents ringing up the likes of TW to propose pitch players – I wonder how that works as surely TW won’t pay transfer fees so what’s in it for the agent I wonder?
Also, I totally forgot Ross Allen had departed – very sad about it, he was such a good goal scorer!

How did the U17s performance compare to Danny Hay's in '15?

They advanced to the knockout stage in 2015. 2-1 win over Paraguay, 0-0 draw with Syria and 6-1 loss to France. Hammered 6-0 in round of 16 by Nigeria.

Didn't they lose 1-0 to Brazil?

As you well know any U17s chat was not me but it is nice to know I occupy so much of your brain space rent-free

The All Whites played games! The pod discuss the losses to Ireland and Lithuania, and compare the tactics Danny Hay used to the previous regime. The Nix are back in action after their bye, and there was a full round of Handy Prem and NWL action.

Instinctively think 2010 was a better team than this one, by the time they got to the WC that is.

We are recording tomorrow night so never fear it is coming.

I'm sure we'll explain why you didn't get an episode last week during that!

Oh it wasn't intended as snarky, just a joke. Can't really complain about not getting a free podcast, just excited to hear from the team

Ha, don't worry I didn't mean my response to feel that way. Sorry!

Mostly just stitching up the person that was to blame!

Three on trot for the Nix thanks to a smash and grab in Auckland. Tracey Hodge joins to the pod to chat Auckland, the TeeDubs win over Eastern Suburbs, and to give us a rundown on the upcoming 10th Annual 12 Pubs of Lochhead.

The crowd was disappointing (esp after 22,000 in Feb this year) against WSW, but not shark. For some context the official crowd figures for Nix's 4 home games to date.

Western United 8,254

Perth Glory 6,054

Brisbane Roar 6,790

Western Sydney 8,851  (Eden Park).

If WSW crowd was 'shark', the Wellington crowds to date must have been 'shark house'.

Don't think you're comparing apples with apples there coochie - scarcity of Nix games & significantly higher population in Auckland should mean a higher crowd than those that get to see live games regualrly.

8k for a game in Wellington is decent, 8k in Auckland is shark.

Well it was still a higher crowd then any in Wgtn this season to date.

Is a 6K crowd at Westpac/Sky Stadium shark?   Some would say yes.

Will they get greater than 8,851 in the Windy City this season?

I would say the 4ks they were hauling in in Auckland were shark. 8k is just meh, but it's not going to change the Phoenix's desire to play there twice a season.

Another good show! Thanks!

The Auckland game was epic, despite the low crowd. Would take that crowd and even stadium on what has been on offer in Wellington recently

Nice podcast this week but disagree that we didnt deserve to win. While we were second best in the 1st half, Marinovic kept us in it. 2nd half we were all over them. Def deserved that win.

Not sure on the question here tbh.

Ella is the go to with W-League and we'll be covering that throughout the season, along with ensuring there is a decent focus on the Womans game in general.  There will be a discussion about the 2023 World Cup bid this week which we didn't do last week so we can include Ella in that chat

Meri Kirihimete podders. Thanks for putting your mahi, energy and general sharkhousery into such an enjoyable pod. Hope this can help make a few more.
