What are the conditions of the 5 letter surname? Is it having appeared in an League game (i.e. took the field)? Or does it extend to FFA Cup, pre-season, etc...

never mind... after comtemplating it for a couple of minutes i think the team pretty much selects itself.

blanket rule would be took the field in am A-League or FFA Cup game. Competitive fixtures only, and bench doesn't count.

I guess that rules out Phil Imray as my keeper ;-)

I think the team becomes pretty obvious. I would be surprised if you guys are more than 1 or 2 players apart.

Interesting discussion on the School v Clubs. I guess we are lucky here that Waibop will let students have dual registrations to play for school and club.

Please don't do 5-letter surnames - it will get a bit tedious ...

How about instead rating Welnix's performance, or David Dome's performance?

perhaps one of the reasons why theres been an proportionally high amount of young professionals to come from there? Boyd, Thomas, Rojas and Wood?

Sorry Bevan, but we definitely are doing 5 letter teams. Feel free to skip over it when you listen :)

Any more conjecture on this club announcement in early August?  Too much fanfare and lead in time to be a player.  Potentially too much fanfare to be the new kit.  What are the other options?  Probably just a new sponsorship deal I suppose, but any chance it could be a new facility?

I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.

I've been a knocker on the podcast quality but it has improved significantly in terms of content and conversation. Good work.

Do wonder this also. Didn't someone in another thread speculate something about the change in logo?

Pods getting better and better guys. Thoughts on getting Liam Hyslop on as a guest. I'm sure he'd be good value.

Ooh, this is a great idea. Leave it with us.

ironic you mention Billingsley playing for NW (if not Ole) instead of college. He actually played for Karori v NW and Karori lost the points when him and Dylan Wood didn't have age eligibility/dispensation (I think they were a bit bitter two Onslow lads weren't playing for them).

Yeah I did, hoping they don't though. I still think theres a chance they'll unveil a new player in the new kit. Maybe that striker they're talking about

I think I was talking in the hypothetical as I didn't actually know where he played his club football first, might not have said that though.

I've always found the need for age dispensation weird. If a teenaged player is good enough to play at a high level for a club, they should be allowed to play at that level.

It's too big an event for a player, the comp and most clubs are rebranding so this seems the most likely.

You're not the only region that does that. Nelson does as well, and I'm sure there's others. And in recent years the best we've produced are Jeremy Brockie and Kip Colvey so that theory doesn't seem infallible.

New kit and logo to go along with the A-League design refresh seems to make a lot of sense to me for the level of fanfare here.

Yes, please, let the Nix move to Upper Hutt and play all their home games at home - that would be living the dream.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Uh oh.. I've seen an "official document"... Lachyloolaa's going to be disappointed if what I just saw is true... Logo.. Possibly. And I am so annoyed with it.

Here is what I thought of straight away after seeing it.. All text in the same place and layout, add an "eagle" (can't tell it's a phoenix anymore) akin to DC United's logo in the middle.

There is a crown (from Wellington/NZ's Coat of Arms???) horribly placed on the throat of the bird and yeah. You have our logo. Sharkhouse.

Exactly. But the font is 'meh' and the tail/talons looks out of place with the rest of the bird. Amateur hour.

so are you going to make a team out of players with 6 letters in them or longer this week?

Nope, we've got Liam Hyslop from the Dom Post joining us to talk FFA cup and his series on youth development instead.
