Its unlikely we will get boyens as hes at Toronto. Oughtouns a crowd favourite at Columbus. Mulligans out of favour at Sc**thorpe so e could be a chance.

Put Clebo on stress leave and see if you can get him classified as injured - then bring Pelter in on loan from Sunderland - he's getting nothing there.

We are short of a specialist right back.  We have enough cover everywhere else, possibly too many strikers.

I see many people totally hating Old and O'Dor. Let's not forget that these guys are only 20 years old. They might not be strikingly good at the moment, but given their age they have great margins of improvement, and come on, they're not that bad.
I think if Clebo was given a game or two, maybe playing with 5 defenders

we shouldn't need to play 5 at the back. Also don't think Clebo would make a great sweeper

That is the problem with football coaches round here - they never listen to people like us who know about it than they do.  I told the Lower Hutt coach that he should sign Boyens and he just ignored me.  I also wrote a letter to the Wairapapa coach telling him that Oughtan was a better centre midfielder to what he currently has, and he should sign him.  Did he even bother to respond to me?  No chance.  Waste of space.

I do agree with most people on here though - we should pay up the contracts of Plodder, Clebo, Old and Ferrante, and then sign Oughten and Boyens from the MLS (who cares if it is a league with more prestige and reputation than the A League) and the Peters from Sunderland.

keep christie, he may not be the best defender but hes better than clebo, and id rather christie in the midfeild than ferrante. i think brownlie needs to go ferrante needs 2 go and clebo needs 2 go.

the thing about boyens and oughton being in a more prestigious league is they will be on a higher salary than if they came 2 the a-league seeing  we have a salary cap thats quite low.
i reli hope that oughton or boyens came because boyens would awesome at the back.

ricki  should have picked a defender as 1 of the U20 players. i dont think draper should have been there.

i jst dont think old has much potential. positionally he not there enough of the time, hes not feirce enough in tackles and in presence, technically not gifted. i just cant find anything positive.

o'dor on the other hand lacks confidence and experience but he does have potential and no one can really argue.

and as i said before chrisite doesnt offer enough on attack for a a-league fullback compared to lockhead. it fine enough to be solid at fullback but attacking fullbacks are gold. look at heffernann(ccm), cassio(adlde), the other blond adelaide fullback, kemp (mlbne),millligan(syd)??? dno bout that 1, add another level to attack to their teams and christie just doesnt!!

i love the nix and not tryng to be negative just how i see it.
any opinons on that??

Admittedly Plodder had a pretty poor game yesterday, but he's been our best right back so far, and has gone forward effectively at times when game situation allowed it. He really struggled yesterday with his defensive duties and gave the ball away a lot, but hasn't really had a bad season overall.

yea he hasnt been bad but in compareson to other fullbacks even are own lockhead there on different levels.

and i do have another option for the problem. vince lia would be capable back there to attack and defend. he has done fullback dutuies in his career

Lia could be an option, but if he tackles like he did yesterday, he won't last long as a defender.

agreed but wen plodder gets beaten by half a step its over as hes not athleticaly up to it. haha man im negative !! haha vince is a better fotballer thats all.

a mate said, think plodder gets picked as hes the real tryer in the team its hard not to play him as at training hes the guy that give 150% in everything and makes ricky pick him with effort.
not a bad observation

Given that one of the key functions of a sweeper is to organize the 4 in front of him don't you think that Clebo's acknowledged lack of English might be a wee problem!!

(The fact that I limit my response to that 1 question, is an indication that I've read Marius L's request to focus on the ball not the man, but can i suggest thinking things through before posting!!)

And yes, perhaps, I am still pissed off  - not with the game yesterday  - but by the knee-jerk responses of one or three posters.

Why George more time and Brownlie out?

George has had far more of a chance then Brownlie. I want to see Brownlie given at least some game time before we judge him.

I know we've been told to play the ball not the man.  But I have to say it's incredibly hard when you want to play against Ronaldo, and all you see in front of you is Ron Harris so you automatically go in studs up and two footed.  I can't believe the crap being talked about different formations and players.

Can we swap in the Team Wellington defence?
Permalink Permalink

You could try but as they are usually in the middle of the Fever Zone chopped on match days I don't think it would end well.

(this refers to the defence playing in pre-season matches, not the imported one that is possible).

Phoenix to pay out some players? 10/29/2007 3:24 PM

After another loss for the Phoenix this past wknd, management may look at paying out the contracts of some of it's players

Wellington Phoenix owner Terry Serepisos may open the cheque book next month.

The A-League football franchise has been criticised for its leaky defence over the past few weeks, with the 4-1 defeat in Adelaide the most recent example.

Phoenix CEO Tony Pignata has revealed they are are looking at the transfer window, which opens next month. However, he says if they want to buy new players, they made need to pay out a contract or two. Pignata says they have a full roster of 23 players and a salary cap that is nearing its peak. He says they will review things over the next few weeks and decide what players they require.

Pignata says scouts have suggested a few names, but there are no obvious candidates on the table just yet.

That is totally plodder, one of those players that trains hard and looks good in training but when it come to the crunch... well enough said.

Here's another thought, we all know why hes called plodder, what will he be like when his legs/pace eventually go?

Should we look at signing Ljubo Milicevic, according to the program from the Melbourne Victory game, He is a "Powerful, experienced defender who has been a regular in the Qantas Socceroos over the last 2 years" Also has European experience and only 26 years old. Sounds like what we need at the back.
Downside he could be a touch on the difficult side

Milisevic a 'touch' on the difficult side.  Add the uncontrollable mouth, and average skill, to his Lochhead = Blockhead comments and he's close to the last player in the league we'd want.

Bazeley is all signed at Waitakere in the NZFC.  Playing Team Welly this week, and OCL tomorrow night.  Hope he does well (apart from against Team Welly).
