Thank you for your reply. We shall just have to see, wont we? No doubt if Jon McKain does / has signed he will highly value the confidentiality of his new club and its employees.

Does McKain like booze and chasing wimmins? Then a move to Saudi might not be a wise one.

He does as much as his Orthodx Judaism allows him to booze and womanise.

True.  Orthodox Judaism wouldn't allow boozing and womanising I'm guessing.

I'm sure many of us have heard Johnny take the mike with the famous Klezmer band, the Jews Brothers. He rocks out on "Hava Nagila".

Locked. Unless we hear an official announcement, but I have my doubts.

EXCLUSIVE: Wellington Phoenix defender Jon McKain is set to join the Saudi league on a big money deal where hell hook up with coach and former Italian national team keeper Walter Zenga.

It's believed a two year, $1.5m deal with Al Nassr is about to be announced for McKain.

Dumb. But will that really re-ignite his Socceroo career?

You can't really turn money like that down. Have fun.

If its true, and we get a hefty transfer fee like we should having just extended his contract, then i'm OK with this.

At his age, don't really think it's relevant to him, he isn't going t improve much or get a look in for the full strength NT... he's got 3-5 yrs of pulling top wedge, good on him for making the most of it...

And thanks Jon... sad you won't be doing it again for us - but all the best over there

Yeah, Gutted he won't be playing again. Loved him to bits. Top player. Hope he goes well. Never know. May see him back in two years.

Ditto.

We will miss him - our next best player after Ifill but we have time and hopefully $s from the transfer fee to replace him and, again hopefully, put a dent in the cost of our much needed creative play maker.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Don't you go and play for them, dreadful Saudis!

The worst thing about this is that it lends credence to those IMMINENT DEATH OF THE NIX PREDICTED rumours. Diego's Son, this forum's answer to the Human Centipede, is doing his best to spread those on 442 as we speak - apparently they're about to sack Ricki. Why does he hate us so much?

Ricki could go, it's a risk you take when he coaches on a larger stage.  Won't mean the end of the Phoenix but finding a replacement would be VERY interesting.

where?

Just on the Aussie forums. He reckons cos Tony P wanted to move home to be with his family, and Jonny-Mac might be off to earn his retirement fund in Saudi Arabia, the Phoenix are about to go kaput.

Of course, the 5 year licence, breaking even this year, Boca Juniors game coming up, and membership sales going well mean nothing at all.

Oh and while I'm at it, lets join CONCACAF.

If the breaking even thing was without the McKain move we may in fact be rolling in it.

guy is awesome, plays with is heart on his sleeve. Runs all day. Can be a bit loose with passing, and gets the occasional card...Plays centre back for us, first season did a good job in midfield.

Even if that is the case, we're talking a profit.  We have his salary to spend which was obviously one of the higher ones and I can't begrudge him 1.5m over two years if it is that much.

McKain deserves a good team to play, he's a great player at the back, and could easily have taken Moore's Socceroos spot at the World Cup.
Then at least the Socceroos wouldn't have given up four goals :)

I just hope it works out for him. A number of players have left the A-League for stints in other regions, and things have turned out bad - no game time or poorly run clubs.

Always have him back if things don't work out in the oil state.

Not great news but a tidy transfer fee makes me not too worried about it, to be honest. He played great for us and I wish him luck but Siggy, while he isn't as good, still does a job there.

Where was the transfer fee confirmed HN?valeo2010-06-16 11:50:50
