Perspective folks. If our players were anynwhere near consistently ok, they wouldn't be in the A league.

I used to work with a bloke who was on the coaching staff of one of NZ's age-group teams. He didn't bag Ricki but said there were concerns among other coaches that Ricki didn't like to ask for advice. However, Ricki did employ that Aussie guy (can't remember his name) as a technical adviser for the WC didn't he? Perhaps he needs to give him a call again?

Pretty annoyed with the disallowed goal right now.

Woeful.  First goal should have stood but if it did we may not have got our second and for all we know could have played worse in the second half so I'm not going to go on about that.

The following need to be deported:
Hearfield
Vukovic*
Brown
Bertos
Toto - I finally accept what everyone else already knew - he's woeful

Pains me how many kiwi's are on that list.

Even paying Rees we couldn't get a point.  Terrible.  I hope Terry doesn't pay any of them (Ricki included) until they stop being fat and useless.

4-3-3 has got to go by the way.  Doesn't work.

*Because he only had to put his foot out to stop it but instead decided to fail with his hands.  Made Djite look good.  Embarrassing.

Let's be honest: there are a few players on the team that are only there because they are Kiwis. I know that the A-League has this thing about only three imports, but in our case we are excluded and we really should bench those that are under-peforming.

Every time I see Hearfield on the pitch, I wonder WTF is going on. He's so lazy and useless.

EDIT: I just remembered that Hearfield is an Aussie. Why the Hell do we keep him then? Christ.LiamO2010-10-02 02:53:04

It's the coachng staff, not the players who need to take a good look at themselves. We were right in that game, but for at least 10 mins before Coast's 2nd goal, it was clear we'd run out of ideas, and Cullina was running the game. Instead of being pro-active and shakeup the mix, Herbert was reactive, and only made his first change after the 2nd goal arrived, and it was always going to arrive if we didn't make an earlier change. Herbert was simply outcoached again away from home.  First change had to be Pav on by the way.
Problem with this current starting eleven  is that there's no-one to hit aerial balls into, which severely limits players like Ifill and Bertos. and you could feel the fraustration right through the whole side. McAllister's failure so far to get become a serious aerial option is a big blow to this campaign, as the rest of the attacking options are relative midgets.
Don't blame individuals, as they lost confidence in the tactics. North and Durante have 2 makeshift fullbacks around them, and spent half their time organising them, Not a Sigmund fan generally, but he played really well in his unfamiliar position. Don't blame the keeper, as the defence became a mess in front of him on our left.
High balls down the sidelines I understand as we usually end up winning the throw, but long balls down the middle to the excellent Greenacre are baffling. Pav needs to start - just a waste of talent - but its back to the drawing board for the conservatve Herbert. The Phoenix always play better keeping the ball on the ground , and have the fullbacks pushing forward so we can get extra width and over-lapping runs and numbers forward.

More to this than many would be prepared to admit. Spoke to someone at last weeks game who has been around NZ football who said much the same thing.

We lose it again in the midfield, there is nothing there, no running off the ball, no supporting players, always long hopeful balls. This is basic school boy stuff. Some players need to wake up and put the effort in.

I think more than  a few players need to be dropped to give them a wake up.

Right so you start Pav and drop.....? If you say Greenacre then you just proved your idiocy

If you are advocating Pav (who has height) but advocating ball on the ground with Greenie probably one of the better back to goal forwards in the league, why do you start Pav then?

start pav, drop brown or leo.....go with what works a simple 4 - 4 - 2 formation, with players playing in their best positions.

And be replaced by who... Musa? Rojas? Diego? Toto? McAllister? Please

There are no replacements sans Lia who will be back from suspension, Paston (where keeping is not our issue) and Lochhead who is basically done for 4 months (lets call it the season)

There seems to an outpouring of stupidity after this match.

So based on that statement

Vuco

Muscat North Dura ?                              (and you have to include Muscat and not Sigmund cause Muscat is a better right back and player of the season thus far)

Bertos, Ward, Lia (for Brown) Ifill

Greenie, Pav

Whose our left back then?

Drop Bertos - play 4-4-2 - Bertos is better used as an impact player off the bench anyway.

we are the ugliest footballing side in the league. i went to bed at half time frustrated that we couldnt string two passes together, watched the second half now - and that was even worse.

Another one.
Sure drop Bertos. Whose your wide right player? Replace him with who?

Everyone is very quick to come up with players to drop but no one to replace them thats going to be better and work in a team formation.

We're all pretty pissed off with result(understandably), we'll all have our own ideas what went wrong and how to fix the problem, but it doesn't mean we need to get all sh*tty and personal with each other. It wasn't our fault it was the team, take your anger out on them not each other on here.

Last season we had overlapping runs from the fullbacks, particularly lockhead and daniel had good combinations working, and bertos was a threat
Caceres was creating headaches for sides if they tried to double team Ifill
Muscat was starting to get forward at times and create play and was a bit of a surprise weapon
And while the opposition D was focused on all of Caceres, Daniel/Lockhead, Ifill, Bertos and occassional raids from Muscat we had Brown slipping into the box

This season
Ward<<Caceres
loss of Lochead and failure to sign any seasoned widebacks has Sigmund and Hearfield figguring out what the hell they should be doing, tho Siggy is starting to show he's working it out
Lockhead/Daniel show ... one not selected, one now injured
Bertos is being closed down, Ifill is being closed down and the guys in the middle aren't able to step up and play direct, and only have one striker to play to
despite having more midfielders than we want, +/or know what to do with

No seasoned wide backs, floundering around for a decent central midfielder still, and midfield failures clogging up the squad, the fullbacks are still figguring out their game and have been less effective coming forward so far and the opposition have figured out how to close our remaining threats down and we've not found the overall answer yet

Time to earn your pay Ricki
still potential there, still some threats on the park, new combinations still to gel
it may all come together again with a bit more work and experience
the problems should be obvious now
but I think it's time for Ricki to earn his pay, it needs pushing and organising
