There have been two things holding us back from playing to our potential this season;

1) Confidence - confidence in your own abilities to take on and beat a player (Ifill's got it back and Rojas has it in spades) and the confidence to push forward knowing your team mates will cover for you (Sigmund went forward knowing Dura and North had his back).

2) The will to win and desperation not to lose - we've seen it in patches but the second half today was all about the shear will to win.

We deserved the 3 points - I am so f**king happy we got them !!!

So who was at Four Kings? Fire alarm went off at 90 minutes exactly, everyone had to leave, cue a big crowd on the pavement watching the one TV that everyone could see, and wild scenes when Siggy's header hit the net, while the actual alarm was still ringing and 2 fire engines were parked up in the street!

IT WAS AWESOME.

And...at half time I put $5 on Phoenix at $14.00! O FOR AWESOME DAY.

Epic win!

Surely it's obvious now that Rojas must start. He's simply more effective than Daniel.

I think someone suggested earlier that Rojas needs the advantage of being able to run at tired players which coming on as a sub provides. I reckon Daniel needs that advantage more than the kid.

Don't worry at this rate, it will be hard for Terry to say no to more games being played in Christchurch...

Especially if he wants to break even...

The stand out for me today was the ref. Even before the red card he showed that he is one of the worst in the league. Both teams were hard done by this opology for an official.
Another stupid foul by Tim cost us a goal.Yes he did score, but my wife would have got that.He had too many touches for a great chance in the second half, which he should have just knocked in.
Paul I could easily get back to his best if he played the simple ball. He is rather predictable at the moment.
I know that Ben will be everyone pick of MOM, but there is a lot more to the game than a goal to earn that.He played very well as FB, but I think that Ward was obe of our best today.
Ricki got if right today with putting on Rojas for Daniel. This bloke is going to be one of the best players in the league.
Back to the red card. Will be very surprised if Dodd does not get off that, as it would rank with one of the worst decisions I have seen.

WE LOVE YOU SIGGY WE DO!
OH SIGGY WE LOVE YOU!!!

What second half!! Superb Sigmund, Man of the Match.
Muscat and Rojas both had great games also.
Feels good to steal one at the end after having so many stolen in dying moments.
Good on ya CHCH!!
If Leo is back for next week Daniel should not travel, simply not up standard in the first half.
But who cares 2-1, fairytale finish, 5th place!
And Melbourne B are down 3-0!

The way we have played in the last 2 games is enough for me to think that we can go all the way.
Why has it taken 20 games?

What a result! A win catapulted WP into 5th place and a biggest home crowd this year!

How about the red card dished out to Dodd? Then Ricki got the marching order! Is refing part of the game? Comments, anyone?

I love football!!
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

I was there. Ended up running to Molly's to see if they had it on (they didn't - stupid cricket), then the TAB (closed), then got back in time to see everyone else celebrating and a bloke standing on a car bonnet leading a chant! Weirdest end to a match but brilliant. And great result too!

I agree with Leggy (maybe not about Tim Brown though), so make that 1 "harrumphs!"

BTW, props to van Dijk for congratulating Siggy on his goal after the final whistle.

My first live match since Central coast last season where we made the top four.....man I missed going so much. Such a wicked game, Rojas was amazing and Iffel is simply a god at his best in this league.  Thought we'd blowen it so the last minute goal was just amazing.

Can't wait to hopefully move to welly next year so I can go to every home match!

Well quite happy to take the red card considering the worst decisions handed out to us over the course of the season. It's bloody nice to get something go our way...and O'leary had a fairly clear view of the incident. Much better than the tv. how can you be complaining...!

Can anyone tell me if Paston celebrated the winner?

I've never seen that man give even a fist pump when we've scored. I remember Reddy going nuts when we scored late last season.

Fantastic result.

Great performance.  I really loved the way we moved the ball around today.  Nice and short, players moving off the ball.  Anything but a win today given how we played would have been an unrewarding result.  To a man they played excellent football.

In particular, I want to give special praise to Manny Muscat.  Man he cut Flores out.  A lot of intercepts, and then he broadened it out with some great supporting runs to keep movements going.  Sigmund excellent, Tim Brown a good performance, Durrante worked over Van Djik after the goal, and Ifill, while he sort of drifted out of performance had some very nice touches.

Viva la Phoenix, lets keep this style because this style is an absolute winner.  Well coached Rikki.

That game had everything, red card for player & coach, big crowd, plenty of close chances and  Siggy the local lad scoring the winner in the very last minute.
Was in the YF zone, fantastic atmosphere.
Went to last weeks V Victory.
Siggy was immense today in defence and attack but my man of the match was Manny Muscat - he held the mid-field together, didnt get beaten and distributed well. Better game by Ward, didnt lose possesion as much.
Great goal celebration - shame the tv cameras didnt show it all.

Completely out of his depth at this level.
What about the booking of Greenacre when he pointed out the Adelaide keeper was about to take a free kick 10 metres up the park from where it had been given and even the linesman on the far side was standing with his flag out indicating to the ref it wasn;t in the right spot. Wouldn't have surprised me if he'd gone and booked the linesman for dissent as well, absolute muppett.

On another note watched Ward in the warm up banging them in from everywhere during the final shooting drill and thought .... gee he's awesome ... then when it came to game time and he got a chance to shoot (and he had a few in the first half) I thought we were in given what I'd seen and he sprayed them all over the place ffs. Still, he played well. Only one I thought was off the pace today was Lia, touch and passing let him down at crucial times. Muscat was outstanding, and what about those forward charges from Dura? Awesome. Much better game than the fixture against the Roar last time down here.

What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?
