Looking forward to the game.

Hate having Manny out, will be interested if Lyndsay starts esp since he hasnt had any time off the bench even.

Heart have played some sharp football up front recently, and still lost or drawn.
So want a win for us to be able to consolidate our place.

I hope the Heart's plane is landing at Wellington airport today sometime.

Would have loved to see the lineup something like this

                   Paston

Lindsay      Siggy       Dura        Lochhead

                    Ward

   Downey                           Daniel

                   Sanchez

             Ifill        Smith

Bench: Warner, Brown, Greenacre, Bertos

However, it'll likely be something like this:

                 Paston

Lindsay      Siggy       Dura        Lochhead

                  Smith

   Bertos          Brown               Daniel

                   Sanchez

                   Ifill

Bench: Warner, Downey, Greenacre, Ward

I just couldn't see us winning any ball with that midfield.

This is actually a lot more like what I would want but with a 4-2-3-1 so drop Brown and Sanchez deeper. As I said in the other thread, excited but nervous about Lindsay at right back. I probably would have gone with Downey. Hope Lindsay proves me wrong though.

Actually, if it landed yesterday, you will probably find them down at Farmers today buying underpants.

I know, I know, its serious!

Ahmad, you're living in the past, the date of the game is the 29th.  I thought the Black out thread was the match fred?

Apparently this is now the match thread.

Excited and apprehensive about Lindsay at RB. He's definitely a good footballer so he should not let us down. But he will be underdone in terms of match fitness having only 2 ???? games this season. He will probably be asked to play a conservative game.....in which case we will sorely miss Muscats punch on attack.

A big slap in the face for Downey....Rickie must have no confidence in him as a defender. The last time we saw him at RB was when we got shredded preseason by the Roar in Dunedin. Also no Tsats.

Must say I don't think Rickie is much chop at picking/developing young footballers. Looks like Tsats, Griiffith and Downey won't have much of a future at the Nix. Now youngster Lindsay gets chucked in at the deep end, playing out of the position where he has played this season(though he has RB experiance). Bit like young Musa getting thrown in the deep end at LB vs the Victory despite training/playing as a CB.

Behich and Terra have been pretty sharp recently for Heart, sure is going to be good test for Lindsay.

You'll never beat The Salmon!

It seems a bit pointless having two threads, the Black out thread was .

edit: just read other thread, now know reasons and retract my earlier statement.patrick4782012-01-27 11:45:22

Agreed. Behich is quick and has been playing with a lot of confidence. I bet he fancies his chances against a young debutante.

Would you swap Smith for Lindsay early (I'm talking early early, short of wasting a sub) if he looks like he's getting a bit exposed? Drop Brown into a DM positon, and let Lindsay work the middle with Sanchez. I'd be confident Smith could do a decent job as RB if asked to do so.

Sounds like Lia came through training OK. I'm guessing Lia will play unless there are after effects.

Maybe Lia off the bench though?

Yeah I'm nervous about blooding Lindsay too but this is how young blokes get their chances.

Also, not blooding young blokes is how we end up with one of the oldest teams in the league.

Lindsay isn't the really fast chap who kicks the ball forward even faster is he? Who had a one on one with the keeper a few games back?

I dunno, I'd quite like this guy in our defensive line.

I thought Downey looked all right the other week except the obvious missing the one on one. Up there with Leo for pace ?

I hope Ricki gives him another go off the bench.

I think we are reaching the levels of lunacy when we are talking about playing Smith at RB when he is an ATTACKING midfielder by trade. I also saw Ward as a DM and starting Downey? Downey? Are we that desperate to throw his name into a starting position?? We've got better footballers than him than to give him 90mins. This is not the game to go experimenting.

I think playing Lindsay in this game is the wrong call. Put him on against GCU at home but not Heart. We need to bag these 3 points because the congestion behind us mean one slip up and we let the rest of the pack in. Its called putting your foot on the opponents throat and leaving it there. If there is another option, I think you have to either go with Downey and pray like sh*t he doesn't have a mare, or you try out Leo based on what he did with the All Whites. Neither suffice but the other alternative it push SigmUnd out there and Griffiths into the middle - no thanks. Either way, there is not option that is really palatable so maybe Lindsay is the call to make and see if he has anything about him. I'm still not sold. We could always follow fatboynotsoslims logic and put Lochhead they because 'if you can play RB, you can play LB'.... *shakes head*
