A mediocre end to a mediocre season. No surprise. We're already way ahead by getting shot of Ricki so onwards and upwards next season!

Yeh, wondered about that 100% at times.  Still, 'twas an entertaining game.  I'd definately not say they played us off the park at all, but maybe BECAUSE they were not putting in 100% that allowed us a much better run in midfield than we might have had.  I thought MelbV were dissapointing.  From us much the same old, with a gazzillion crosses and corners, but a somewhat better effort and return from crossing from closer into the box and deeper, I think, all this later part of the season.  Then the mistake to throw it away at the end.  Still, lots of guts, plenty of effort and some enjoyable and skillful stuff; just wish we had a full season of that.

But boy we put in some thuggish tackles especially late second half and then bitched about being called for fouls.  Agree with whoever said they need to get a grip on that.

Much better last month or so.  And good to see Greenacre can recognise a footballer (Stein) and give him the time to find form.
Thought Rowe had a pretty good game.

No way we should have been last.  Around 5th +/-.  But they played like disorganised donkeys with the motivation of a mule, instead of to their potential, for too much of the season.  Bring on a new coach, bring on some new signings and bring on a new season.

If you think we should have finished 5th or better, have a look at the table and we won 7, 5th won 10 and 4th won 12.

Agree we got what we deserved, based on what we put on the park, week in, week out.  But I think a good half a dozen or more games we played a LOT worse than we were capable of.  Two more wins would have got us into sixth.
But hey, it's over.  We got dicked.  Like you say, we got what we deserved.  I just think it could, and should, have been significantly better.

Time for the club to focus on a new coach and start signing up players.

entertainment, tho i would give it up for a win.

rowe looked handy at the back

to much charging the ref, just get on with it.

we will have to wait til next season for a complete performance

really enjoyed the crowd, but still 6800 is to low.

...what do I do til next season?

We need to completely change our style for next season. Putting 900 balls into the box and winning 170 corners clearly doesn't work when you have strikers who have no idea about attacking crosses or wingers and fullbacks who cannot cross a ball 9 times out of 10.

It was the Easter Bunny that knocked the girl unconscious. The friggen stretcher bearers/first aid guys weren't even interested. They carried on with their conversations. I felt sorry for her. Was a stupid game that took far too long to set up and explain and result for the Phoenix was an embarrassing moment.

Easter Bunny 1 Phoenix 0

As for the game, shame we didn't get a draw but WTF were the defence doing splitting towards the wings and Thompson stood his ground in the middle and got the ball.

Oh well, next season to look forward to. Nixies are a cool toy. And fun. To those negative anti everything persons whom expect the Nix to play like Man United every week, you really need to get a life and stop moaning. Of course you could do better. I don't mind fans getting frustrations off their chest. They pay their money and are entitled to an opinion but being negative all the time and knocking anything that might be fun for others. Oh dear.

Waits to be slammed by those very few fans whom think that way.

I am not sure if you are aiming some of that at me but perhaps a look at the league table may suggest there's something to moan about and this season was not much 'fun'?

But, at least you added a totally irrelevant point about Man Utd to make your point more valid...

We all wish our team would perform to the best of their abilities or ay least go down with a fight and not a whimper. But I sadly fear that some have too high an expectation from the players we have.

Still next season, new coach, new players, some going. It could all turn around to be something good. I loved the atmosphere today, especially when we got one goal back. Everyone came alive and i believe the players responded to it. Sure we lost, we made mistakes but at least we fans get to see a professional football team and of that I am not going to complain or be too negative about it. I hope this clears up my point of view for you all.

I think more importantly than the league placing for this season (without trying to ignore it) will the lessons be learned so that this season is not a repeat next year? I think it would be a fair statement to say that with hindsight, a lot of things could/should have been done differently. Are those in control taking those lessons onboard because if we repeat them, then we can expect more of the same next year and that would really disappoint me.

If anything, I hope they do take the lessons out of this season. Otherwise it just makes it all the more painful.

We need a big time clear out. Challenging for the league would be nice, but finals football with at least a realistic chance of winning would be a must IMO. And by that I mean going to the likes of Melbourne and winning sometimes. Another season like this and 'just' having a professional team may not be enough. We have to start competing to persuade the Aussies and Asians that it's worthwhile us being in the league. This season, it hasn't been worth or when you think purely of the financial side of things.

It is not a good squad, nor is it that hard to believe.

1 recognised fullback, who is rubbish, and a terrible midfield put paid to our season for the start. Awful finishing and 170 wasted corners didn't help either.

Which was what? 2 one goal wins out of 5? Wow, they really did great.

Edit - after a review of this comment, I concede they improved after Herbert left, but the major damage was already done and they were able to play without much pressure on them. Still right up until the end though we had the same old issues of bad defending, poor finishing, poor crossing, terrible set pieces...and the list goes on.

I'm with Patrick on this one, I joined in on all the Spoon Chants, and it seemed to fire up the team, all of a sudden it was all action, and they put two in the net. I also don't believe in Coincidence.

Me too. why can't we be allowed to take the piss out of ourselves? if you can't do that you need to get over yourself. Although I guess we could've got all shitty, started a riot, thrown flares or maybe head over and attack the away supporters like some other teams fans do around the world when their team plays so shit all season they end up LAST on the table. yeah taking the piss is real disrespectful

OK....maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration on my part but despite having a coach who lost the plot completely for most of the season we were only two wins away from the making the playoffs. It is quite possible that if Ricki had gone straight after the 1-7 Sydney thrashing that we would be watching the Nix in the finals next weekend. The fact is Heart, Sydney, Jets, Roar and Perth had largely shiite seasons...if we had been properly coached from match one we would have made the finals IMO.

So the Phoenix got the wooden spoon. My only thought is that they deserved it. At times they played up to their potential but those moments were few. The only consistency they showed was an inability to put away their chances and a paper thin defense. A new manager is only the start, a total overhaul in attitude and environment is required. Will next year be better? It could not be any worse.

I know the wooden spoon must hurt the pride - but there are at least some positives to take out of a disappointing season.

The big plus is you will have a new coach next season. It was time for a stale Herbert to go, the pity is he took so long about it. Now the Phoenix have a chance to bring in fresh experience and ideas. If they choose well, rather than try to do it on the cheap, it could well mean a whole new dawn for the club.

There is going to be a major clean-out of deadwood with a number of underperforming players coming off contract. I actually hope Bertos stays but isn't shoehorned into a position he's not suited to. He is at his best as a wide attacking player.

Ricki's favourites no longer rule the roost. This opens up opportunities for the best players on the local scene if they can step up and grab the chance.

There's only one way to go next season - that's up!

Fallon doesn't seem to be getting much game time at Aberdeen, perhaps he could make a good marquee signing next season - with the bonus of not taking up an import slot. If not him, then surely Killen.

I know you advocate this but I will ask you again. What is your recommendation to fix it. Any old ass clown that is a fan of thugby and never seen a Phoenix game can say 'we need a clear out' but no one ever comes up with the details.

"We need a clear out"
"So whats your idea then to fix it"
"Oh... um....."

I think we are on the right track. We now have a PR person that was needed. Ed has been signed full time as a fitness man, we are on the hunt for a coach and its been rumoured that some players have started looking elsewhere because they have are not happy with terms that have been offered. Outside of that, they are on that track so why can't you at least say 'We have started the process' and be positive about it for once?
