This was a sh*t Adelaide team. Bottom of the league. Just sacked their coach and sacked/dropped  their captain.

This wasn't the time to go over timidly "please sir can we have a point?".This was the time to go over and rip them a new one.

I couldn't work this one out.

Are we so fearful psychologically of our away record that we won't push for a win against bottom of the table sides who have hardly scored at home recently and haven't won since early November because before we can start winning games in Australia we have to prove that we can at least draw?

Once we have some draws under our belt on Australian soil, then we can focus on trying to get wins?

i always believe that attack and possession is the best way of defense...so instead of "being cautious", if we go all for attack (just like what we did vs Jets), we might grab more points...EVEN if we still ended up losing those games, at least we would play pretty football and be less predictable than what we've been...sigh

I'll just say this - the outcome last night was highly, utterly, predictable. And also I can't escape the feeling that it was also a golden opportunity missed.

^ So much this

And on the point of possession, I think in all our recent games, we've had plenty of ball, and a lot of that into the box, but the quality of the ball in is sh*t (the looping cross over everyone) or nobody there to put it away.

As sh*t as we were last night, I think in the stats we still put the ball in the box more often than AdelaideArd Righ2011-12-31 19:58:42

The Horatio Nelson approach (I said it last year too);
"Never mind manouvers, go straight at 'em!"

Nostalgia isnt what it used to be...........

It seems like everything has been said, but I was at the game (first away game) and had a couple of thoughts.

1. Yellow Fever > Daylight > Red Army. Going to an away game confirmed that we have a great set of fans. I couldn't hear a word of their chants, and there were two sets of 'core' supporters sitting at either end ('The Red Army' and 'The Terrace' or something like that down the other end). I didn't quite understand why they weren't chanting together because then they may have sounded less like a whisper and more like a quitely spoken individual.

2. Hindmarsh > Ring of Fire. Sitting so close to the pitch made me realise how far away we are from the action at the Ring of Fire. I was sitting about 5 rows from front, right by the corner flag, and had we won a left-side corner in the first half I swear I could've had a proper conversation with Leo. Perhaps it's lucky we didn't, because after a few beers I surely would have yelled something to the players, to the extreme embarrasment of my Adelaidean girlfriend.

In terms of the Phoenix I think it's all been said. Brown invisible, Leo crap, a few worrying gaps appearing at the back, and it remains a mystery why Smith wasn't there. I have come to the conclusion that without Ifill (or someone of his quality) we will literally never win away from home.

Edit: Only other disappoinment was that McKain didn't take a throw or something from right in front of where I was sitting. In my semi-drunken state I was pretty convinved that I could have lured him back to Wellington single-handedly if given the chance. Sorry to let you all down!

He's hardly worth the RSI at the mo.
Anyhoo, how the f**k was Toto worth a contract and Smith apparently not.I hope he was being rested for the next games.Who'd know?

If only it was as simple as Toto v Smith. It's keeping Smith versus the need for a Striker. I want to keep Smith, but we have people who can play there, we lack people up front, and there isn't a non import option available.

Didn't Smith come to us as a striker? Id be keen to see him get a fair suck of the sav up front then judge.

Midfielder. He played up front against the Victory and was ok, when we made some subs and put him back into the midfield, he was so much better.

Sigh, time for me to finally join the angst queue....Bloody Ricki...makes decent subs when winning, cannot make decent subs when losing, if we are losing he makes the same subs he would make if we were winning....it's like he thinks before the game that players x,x,x will replace players y,y,y and he cannot move from that.......every time I saw a sub getting ready I thought who I (or any manager who wanted to win) would replace and then who Ricki would replace and EVERY time I picked it, it is so predictable......Sub 1 - Pavlosh*t - I thought ok we are losing, take off a defensive mid, but knowing Ricki it will be Daniel, the player who has created most of our recent goals, who does he take off, Daniel... d'oh!...Sub 2 - Ward - I thought, ok now it really has to be a defensive mid or a defender, change shape and go for the win. No wait it is Ricki he won't do that, ok if he really wants to take off an attacking player, I could live with Bertos who has been rubbish, but no he will take off our person most likely to score, a striker Greenacre....Ricki just can't play two up front even when 2-0 down.....who comes off....Greenacre...knew it...sigh.......Sub 3 - The Gimp - NOW we MUST change formation and lose a defender or defensive mid, f**k all time to go, still 2-0 down rather lose 3-0 and really go for the win the just draw the game out to a slow death...... wait it's Ricki so this defender will have to come on and try to replace our most creative player, the ONLY player who is going to make something happen so it will be Sanchez..... and then...... Sanchez leaves the field..... my Ricki sub picks are 3 from 3, the subs I would have made are 0/3.I understand starting with one up front but when 2-0 down late in the game why the f**k do we continue with the old 4-2-3-1??? Are our 6 defensive positioned players gonna win the game for us? Has Ricki ever planned a second formation or is it 4-2-3-1 or bust??Why take off our two players likely to create chances and our one player likely to score those chances? Makes no sense!Should have been a defensive mid or a defender or f**king Bertos....he used to be good Ricki, USED TO!!!On Bertos, why did he go back to taking set pieces? He took a freekick and then corner in quick succession and just like the subs I knew exactly what would happen, freekick to hit the wall, corner to hit the first man....this is what he does almost EVERYTIME... occassionally he realises this isn't working so just for a change he hits it over top of everyone instead just to mix it up....Oh Bertos ...... why does Ricki have such blind faith in him? He has been so sh*t for so long. He plays one very good ball every 7 or 8 games which is enough for Ricki to keep him in the team. Daniel has been brilliant recently and I bet that when Ifill returns to the team it will be Daniel dropped and not Bertos.Smith should have played, he has been one of our best players in recent weeks, only behind Sanchez and Daniel.I think Smith should have been in ahead of Brown, but I don't agree with the Brown bashing, I think the demands should be for Bertos to be dropped, Brown has been decidedly average but Bertos has been far, far worse. There you go....I have joined the angst bandwagon this week....Atleast I have my beloved Liverpool to watch now!!!! Oh wait we are at home so will be a 0-0 draw

I'm just interested to know (honestly) - were today's subs just as predictable?
