I've seen the pre-season, and think he's awful.

Good burst of speed, and that's about it.

+1 traveled to Tauranga and was very very glad based on that and the games against Waitak or was it the AW can't remember that he wasn't our first choice right back.

Agree with the calls that Smith has been hard done by.
He's done nothing wrong.
We should be keeping the same starting XI that beat Newcastle.

No Smith. Utter madness.
Hertbert pulls these guttless moves all too often. Does he seriously think the fan base would lynch him for sticking with a winning formula or rewarding the form players?! This conservative, no frills, predictable attitude is becoming tiresome.

I'd rather see us return with just a point and the best team having been on the park rather than this almost templated midfield and defensive set scraping together an ugly 3 points.

Herbert is squeezing the excitement out of the club for me at present.

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard (how can they be the best team if they wouldn't do as well as another team?), but you probably want to take it up with the guy who was saying above that the Nix can't possibly win without Goldenballs Smith on the field.

Care to elaborate? You seemed to know that he wasn't on the plane over before anyone else did, so care to explain what is going on?

I think the point being made was that some of us would prefer we played away with the same intent we play at home i.e. an attacking mind set. Rather than a defensive set up in the hope we can stifle the home team and nick a win on the break.

Our away record would indicate that however you describe our approach on the road it has been an abysmal failure.

The fact Smith can't even make the match day squad and both Lia and Brown will be in the starting 11 indicates, to me anyway, nothing has changed in Herbert's approach to away games.

Of course we will all take 3 points, even if they come by virtue of an ugly win, but personally I would prefer it if players like Smith were picked ahead of "muscle" players with clearly less speed, skill and vision.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

A decent test of where we are at - we'd all really love a result out of tonight's match heading into 2012. Good time to turn pressure into points.

Adelaide have a great roster and we don't have a great road record, let alone in Adelaide.

Hoping Daniel/Sanchez both start - too often our attack looks bland and unimaginative - especially on the road.

Someone contain Djite - he's seemingly Shjite against most others, but a world-beater against us.

Speculation aside , none of us really know why Smith isn't going.Dropping hints without any further info isn't all that useful.
Most of the views here are that Herbert has lost his mind on this one.Are we sure that there isn't a disciplinary issue , for instance? Smith with a donkey? Photos of others with said donkey , as suggested above? or just a bad attitude?I'm not a Ricki apologist but maybe , just maybe , there is something else going on.No doubt we will find out in the fullness of time.

I agree we dont know what smith has done...if anything. The problem I have is that by reverting to the GRIND OUT A RESULT side we seem to employ on away games, it does involve less subtle football skills and from what I have seen since day one doesnt actually get us too many favourable results either. In my opinion this style of football is boring and tedious and that maybe Ricki needs to get his coaches handbook out and review tactics because we are very much one trick ponies at times

All Whites players over others it looks like. Maybe Ricki has got his coaching wires a bit crossed.

Although even that is a bit silly, not like Lochhead and Brown would make it into a full strength AWs side anyway. OR MAYBE

our away record is still sh*t. So if we happen to grind out something out of this match then we should take it.

We've played much better away from home this year (minus Melbourne 3rd game in a week routine) The results will come. Haven't been happy with RH's tactics away from home in seasons past either, but cutting him some slack, as right now, it could be far worse given the bizarre off season.
The Mad Dog will have the Adelaide players with their eyes rolling round as they walk onto the field. It IS one game where our rottweilers will be required. If we get done in midfield early, it'll be all over rover. Used to live in Adelaide when Kosmina was in charge. His main strength is applying the blowtorch, and you can be sure it'll be at top speed for this first home game.
Not a match for us to attempt pretty football. Be interesting to see how Adelaide go if we sneak an early goal. Wouldn't rule it out, and probably our best shot at this tonight is for that to happen.

Yeah I know what you mean. Just think we've been more competitive at least - minus Melb - away from home this time. And yes am up for the game.
