Right, just to talk about this a few days before it happens.

                    Paston
Hearfield    Durante Sigmund   North
            Muscat   Lia
   Ifill                           Leo
                  Ward
                 Greenie

Subs: Pav, Brown, Daniel, Vuko

Looks a good team. Obviously it is important to see how everyone goes against Brisbane first. But this looks strong.

He did in South Africa.

Three for me, and two for them.

can't keep giving siggy a second chance at cb, he's way too slow. I love how hard he tries but we need to put north back into cb. If he and dura are going to have any chance to recreate their form like they had with Noobcastle.

           Paston

Disco - Dura - North - Musky
               Elliot
Bertos  ------------- Daniel
             Ifill
  Pavlovich/Big Mac --- Greenie

bench: Pav/Big mac, ward,Vukovich, brown

They both played sh*t but I think North needs to be played as a CB, where he played for aussie (they beat paraguay remember?)and with durante to win the a league.
Whereas siggy is a nz back up defender nowdays who looks like hes playing the wrong sport half the time.
Loosing lochead has hurt us as it pulls our other players out of their best positions. (Manny) Go find another left back (Go to the NQF store like everyone else - Kilian or smiliar) LB is a position with not enough depth in this region and should be used for a visa spot.
(All imo)

Sigmund wasn't good enough to start when we had McKain, we bring in someone who is supposed to be better, yet Sigmund is deemed good enough to start now?

^ this is what I'm getting at, he was at best cover for mckain, north is mckain's replacement and expected to be better than siggy. Siggy tries which is admirable, but he just isn't up to the stabndard needed to cope with the pace of the roar or any other a-league team.

I wonder what Herbert's thinking on Elliot is, does he deserve a place in the line up? I think he will sneak in it again, even though it was an average performance from him last night.

If i was gonna be harsh and mix things up, I would tell ifill to stay home. go to a motivational speaker with his time off, and come back fresh and fit.

And mix things up completely. Based on performance, well kind of, i wouldn't hesitate at selecting this:

                      Paston
Hearfield Durante North Muscat
                        Elliot
Bertos             Ward            Daniel
          Pavlovich     Greenacre

Vukovich Musa Rojas MacCallister

I know this is silly. But I even considered Diego. Honestly, how much worse could he be than our current midfield combinations.

I know Ricki wouldnt do this ever. But I wish one day he could just make this call. Or atleast bench Ifill. And Musa will step up to the challenge I feel. He's looked good everytime I've seen him. Even against the nix.

Also side topic, why did we not sign clapham? Because Ricki thought we had enough options in the center of the park, yet he signed elliot, ward and toto.. hmmmm. think clapham would have done quite well there.

agree with picture formation cept ifill for daniel.

you can't leave ifill out, you just can't

Three points:

- Ifill looked like he's starting to come right
- Siggie has got to go, he's an absolute hero but at the end of the day he isn't up to speed with the a-league, and he's dragging Dura out of position to. Also I think he's the reason we can't get things going from defense (as the Roar exploited yesterday).
- Greenie needs to play up front with someone.

So in saying that:

                          Paston
          Hearfield   North   Dura     Muscat
                         Elliott
                  Ifill   Ward Bertos
                     Greenie Pav/BigMac

Bench: Pav/BigMac, Daniel, Brown, Vuko

Time for some consistency in the back 4, so time for North and Dura to get some minutes together.

The reason i suggested starting Ifill off the bench is more tactical than anything else. He is starting to come back, i agree, but also, teams now play him tactically. So take him away, and then bring him on fresh when they're all tired.

The let's see if their tactics to shut him down work as well while he's busting moves, and they're gasping for air.

Could have merit, and i've have no problem with seeing 60m of Daniel and then half an hour of an energised Ifill.

Opinion is split on Elliott's performance last night, but to be fair it was his first club match in ages. He's hardly had any game and seems more up to it than a lot of guys out there. So Ricki will have to stick with him.

I have no suggestions for the back four. We keep switching them around and still it is a mess. It would probably be best if Ricki picks his favourite four and sticks with them, although I'm inclined for him to give the kids a go.

think this one is the most likely.

I think we are all jealous of brisbane's speed and youth so we are trying to bring in our guys in hope to become better. I for one have stated i think we should, but perhaps thats just my envy talking.
I would like to see the two of them implemented during the season more. Look at Kosta now hes getting regular time. Rojas could potentially be at that level next season...

Why?

Doesnt fit our style, too risky on the ball looks to pass or break forward when there are perfectly good back passes available

Must be an injury.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

well one of him, elliot or brown. No forward thinking from our midfield. would rather see one of our young attacking prospects given a decent chance.

And this stat really needs to start being rectified

The Phoenix will be aiming to put a halt its historically high away losing record, the worst of all current Hyundai A-League teams.

With 26 losses from its 42 away matches so far (61.9 per cent of its away matches resulting in losses), Wellington Phoenix currently lie only behind former club New Zealand Knights (16 losses from 21 away matches, or 76.2 percent).

 3 points please boys

How about trying Ifill up front with Pavlovic and benching Greenacre?

A lot on here giving him full marks for effort which is fair enough, but I personally think he's been poor in the role that he's supposed to be playing. Not scoring enough, misses chances, doesn't seem to get on the end of crosses and the amount of offsides is absolutely beyond a joke.
