Wellington Phoenix squad: 1. Mark PASTON (gk), 2. Manny MUSCAT, 6. Tim BROWN, 7. Leo BERTOS, 8. Paul IFILL, 9. Chris GREENACRE, 11. DANIEL, 15. Jade NORTH, 17. Vince LIA, 18. Ben SIGMUND, 19. Danny VUKOVIC (gk), 21. Marco ROJAS, 22. Andrew DURANTE (c), 23. Dylan MACALLISTER, 26. Simon ELLIOTT

 In: Marco ROJAS (promoted)

Out: Nick WARD (not selected)

Unavailable: Tony LOCHHEAD (groin 6 weeks), Oscar ROBERT CORNEJO (knee 6 weeks)

From that bloody squad, pick any formation you like, I fear it will be more of the same sh*t we had last night. Vukovic  at centre back would be worth a go.

Why no Ward? We definitely need him starting.
Hearfield hasnt been anywhere near as bad as that rubbish last night, he should be there.

I cant even pick a team I want with that squad, so I wont bother.
Wooden spoon match.

surprised and disappointed that Ward isn't in
wonder if he pissed ricki off?

or if ricki is doing what he did after a few losses last season and trying to grind out a draw - just to get back into the idea of getting a point to go in the points column

rojas - hope it works! (whatever it is designed to do)

What the f**k? no Ward?

Lia and Brown fortunate that RH didn't notice they played like draught horses last night.

Assume Ward injured as bit tough holding him accountable for the crap dished up last night when he barely played. Similarly assume Pav injured as looks a far better bet than Macalister.

Would have liked to see Hearfield given an opportunity in place of Bertos, I don't think we can afford to have Ifill and Bertos both in the side unless they really lift their games, both are lazy and largely ineffective on current form. Back Ifill to come right so change it up and give Bertos some time on the bench. If nothing else we might deliver a decent corner!!

I'd have picked Ward and tossed a coin on Lia or Brown. I'd like to say Brown was lucky he scored that goal in terms of selection for this game but really, his selection is never in question no matter how bad he plays, lets be honest.

Fuck this stupid game

No Ward, no Pav and no Hearfield but in are Sigmund, Brown, Lia and Mac.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

How about trying Ifill up front with Pavlovic and benching Greenacre?

A lot on here giving him full marks for effort which is fair enough, but I personally think he's been poor in the role that he's supposed to be playing. Not scoring enough, misses chances, doesn't seem to get on the end of crossesand the amount of offsides is absolutely beyond a joke.

Couldn't agree with this more.

This squad is fu$ked. No Ward, Hearfield of Pavlovic??

I have a bad feeling he's going to stick with Sigmund at CB. Not cool.

Herbert is going in to siege mentality and with no Ward, Pav or Hearfield he is clearly reverting to what he knows best and that is a physical midfield to try and break up the opposition's game. With so little creativity and pace in our line up, and especially in our midfield, that will inevitably end up in long balls up to Greeny and whoever.

Best we can hope for is a Herbert (0-0) or nicking a goal on the break or an overdue piece of Ifill brilliance to steal it.

Should be a riveting game of football.

I am hoping this will be a good game of football, hoping for a repeat of the 1st half in Adelaide, except for the whole game, which is definitely possible vsing Perth.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

You obviously think he will be starting.

I hope the kid gets a run but to drop an Australian youth international, who has looked good when he played, for a player who hasn't had a competitive run, at this level, for god knows how long is ridiculous. Especially on an away trip to Perth.

I'm glad Rojas is in but would have far preferred Pav to Mac and for Rojas to be blooded at home or in a less do or die situation.

Rojas has to face the truth sooner or later. No harm even if we didn't beat Perth, another team on its rope. Difference was that Perth mamaged a 0-0 draw midweek and hungry for a result to pacify the owner. Truth will be revealed!

I don't know about Vukovich at Center Back, i'd much rather see him in goal thanks. Paston, however, he has the height to play as our new target man up front.goldienz2010-11-05 11:38:35

That's a good point, wasn't Lia originally a fullback? Wasn't that why Muscat was orginally brought in?

Might be worth a shot seeing how he goes back in that position.

If Elliott was brought in to be act as a distributor, why the hell was he playing infront of the back four?

Mmmm.  Lia in the penalty box squaring up to a pacey attacker...better get Pasty and Vuko to practice penalties all the time.

.
100% bang on. Rickie is under seige. So its time to grind out a few 0-0 draws. He will play Elliot, Lia and Brown to rough them up in midfield. North and Muscat won't venture out of their half of the field and it will be bombs away to BigMac. Longball....yawn!

At least Ifill looks like he is coming into a bit of form......maybe he will nick us a goal and then we can circle the wagons for the rest of the game.

The worry is whats plan B if we go a goal down early in the match? Perhaps bring on Rojas to tear them up.....too big an ask for a youngster.

So that he could have the back four behind him to pass backwards to, of course.

Do you think?? Have we not been screaming for someone to play that role ina more attacking manner, ie further up the field???

Yeah Elliot has always played a bit deeper though right? I think Ward in front would work well, but at least we'll see some of rojas maybe lol

Nick Wards being one of our best attacking midfielders this year and hes not even picked in the squad??? Ricki needs to grow a sack and drop some Kiwis seriously.. Apart from that goal on Wednesday Brown had a shocker, didnt even notice him on the pitch and thats been him since game 1 this season.. Ohh and please swap Siggy with North and maybe take him off, put Lia in at RB and Ward in at CM for Lia, because Ricki knows Lias good at RB thats why he was playing him there before his injury. Simple. Also give Pav another run and just try something different Ricki its bloody annoying!!

Sack Ricki, I aint even joking.tomrewi2010-11-05 20:35:04

We should just get the basics right start playing triangles and not isolate ourselves so much maybe try going through the middle a bit more rather than the ever so obvious down the flanks and hook into the box for our shortest player on the park to have to try and contend with defenders 1/2 foot taller than he is. With Lia,Brown and Elliott in the midfield we lack pace and creativity in the centre of the park and that's not going to help us score goals on sunday maybe two of those players start but not all three  (imo)
