You get my hopes up then you dash them right down again.(winking icon)Great to wake up albeit slightly the worse for wear with a result like that.

Other random thoughts...

I loved it when Fenton went running to the Fever after his goal and tried to do the leap-into-the-fans-arms thing only to discover that the wall is a bit high for that.

Denied!

WTF? Huysegems played back to goal a lot and did, I thought, excellently well giving it off to Fenton etc.

Meanwhile, at the SFCU forums...

"Just had a read on the Sydney FC facebook page and boy.... the Italian fans are ripping seven shades of shit out of us! comments like we don't deserve ADP in our team etc."

So glad we raised the joy of Westpac with a great skull bash from Fenton, and smashed those in nearly blue shirts.

I loved the way Totori captured a pole.

I need to do better, I need to improve physically. All of Wellington played a very good match. They are strong and they play good, heavy balls, they have good ideas. Congratulations to you Phoenix and we see you next game.

So there you have it. Alessandro Del Piero says all of Wellington has heavy balls.

Yes we do.

Have we signed Buster Gonads?

Junior 82- you momentarily lost the faith, but I hope it's restored. Leave the predictions to the old timer- I said we'd win (although I never expected so handsomely!).

Like I said before once or twice;

Remember,

We are the Mighty Phoenix! We can beat Anyone!

Au contraire my eight-limbed marine friend. My anti-jinxing served its purpose and even Ballane is a box of fluffies and smiles.
I think Ernie is great too.  He might be a ridiculous giant chicken, but he's OUR cock.

This sounds like reverse psychology.
I had no idea you had an ology.
Or that it was reversible.
I am staggered at the multifarious talents in our esteemed group.

Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Awesome way to start the season last night...it is indeed 'good to be back, its good to be back'!

Had a Fritz's (mild spicy) Hotdog on the way in which I hadn't noticed at the ground before $7.50 (everyone around with their expensive soggy chips, american Hotdogs and burgers were envious saying where $%&*! did you get that???

Great to see 'Waffles' and 'Fenton of Tawa' score in their first game for the Nix - this will settle them both and raise their confidence for the season ahead.

If Huysegems - continues to play like that for us...Maybe they should add Waffles to the menu at the stadium? haha

Well pleased - And with brockie not firing and ifill only playing 30 minutes, 'things..... can only get better'

So much disagreement with this. Greenacre led the league in offsides last year and I do not miss that aspect of our front line. Last night we got 2 in total I think. Had he been playing in place of Stein, he would have been flagged for offside for the goal. That reason alone is why he is not missed. Every offside is a chance wasted.

Incidentally, that late offside on Clarke was a disgraceful call.  Two players played him on when the ball was played to him.

Great start, I wasn't expecting much from Huysegems or Fenton but they really shone. I was worried Fenton was getting too much hype this week but he's really delivered.

Fenton worked so hard defensively, as well as having the skills in attack.

Totori had some promise, but did go to ground too easily.

Surprised Sydney didn't target Bertos at right back. He did well with what he had to deal with.

Is it wrong to say we didn't miss Tim Brown or Daniel? Such a credit to the recruitment this year.

And Ricki, he's changed his tune and is playing some young guys, which is great to see. You wouldn't have thought it last year.

17 year old Tyler Boyd coming off the bench - impressive from Ricki.

Del Piero was class, but, wow, such a gulf in talent between him and the rest of the Sydney squad. McFlynn doesn't deserve to be playing on the same pitch.

Emerton looked unsure at right back. And they really miss Bosschart in defense. Sydney need to gel quickly or they'll be embarrassed at home by the Wanderers in the big derby in 2 weeks time.

Loved that start to the season! Great to see a gung-ho gameplan from Ricki, plus great performances all over the park. Waffles looks like he can do the business alright  - great celebration too, loving the passion. Fenton was superb (how did NZ start producing all these skillful young wingers?). What a way to score a first professional goal! Thought Totori looked busy and although he had some facepalm moments was still worth his spot. Smith was great too - he's always just so solid and composed. Manny was just awesome - undeniably MOTM I thought. Durante was boss. Lochhead did what he had to without ever really standing out. Ifill was great once he came on. I thought Sigmund was good but got caught out position a couple of times. Brockie did well with the layoff to Totori but was overall a little too absent. Paston came and flapped at a couple of crosses but  otherwise didn't have much to do. He scares me though, I always feel like there's a mistake around the corner. Would rather have Moss starting. But overall, really promising signs!

Also thought del Piero showed his class a few times but looked a bit below match fitness. The rest of the Sydney team were just awful and that didn't help his performance either.

Finally, perhaps a slightly disappointing crowd after the talk of a big one but I reckon 12,000 is respectable on a cold night when it buckets down for the hour before quick off. Great performance from the Fever lads too! Will be interesting to see what size crowd turns up in a fortnight.

I thought he would get a yellow card for that, which has been the standard refereeing response over the last few seasons when goal scorers leap hoardings and run to the crowd. Credit to Peter Green for turning a blind eye and letting Fenton have his moment.

I thought yellow cards were given only for taking the shirt off when celebrating goals?

Following Sydney's disappointing performance in round 1, Peter Green has been dropped by Ian Crook for their next match against the Jets.

Instead he will be loaned out to Brisbane Roar for the tiki taka derby against Melbourne Tards. Possibly.

A visibly annoyed Crook said after the match "Peter has a fine record against Wellington and it is a shame that he could not add to it tonight.  We were hoping for at least a point from this match and we were certainly in it until that Fenton kid stole it from us.  Not even Peter could have prevented that.

"He did show some nice touches, such as catching Clarke offside late in the game, but ultimately it was too little and too late.

Peter's a good lad and I know he will bounce back from this poor showing but this is a team game and in this instance he has let the whole team down. Especially Del Boy."

I'm not sure of the exact rules but I think any kind of jumping into the crowd or attempted fence climbing will almost certainly get you a card. I can remember a few, specifically Mitch Nichols when he ran over and hugged someone in the crowd after scoring. Mind you, Mitch Nicholls should be shown a yellow card at the kickoff of every game just for the offence of being a horrible whining, diving little prick.

Also, ADP rules. So classy. Makes Kewell look like a moose knuckle.  *man crush*
