"Waitakere are playing a Wellington Phoenix line-up on Wednesday in the latest installment of the Phoenix Challenge. Games like that are a perfect opportunity to compete against professional players and put yourself in the shop window, how are you approaching the game? We’re really looking forward to it, hopefully they will bring a few starters and boys who have actually played in the A-League. It will be a good test for us and I’d like to think our team can do a job against them most days of the week. It will be good to get out there and hopefully impress a few people.

What’s the feeling like amongst the squad about the Phoenix game, the players must be keen to see how they match up against professional opposition? It’s nice to have a game where it’s not a case of playing against one of the same old teams. It’s something a bit different and everyone always looks forward to games like that. It’s going to be difficult because we’ve just come back from the Christmas break but hopefully we’ll be able to step up. It’s a game that everyone wants to do well in because certain people could be watching and that is a big incentive for us.

The return of the ASB Premiership this weekend is of more importance in some ways because it’s the game you’d rather pick up a win in. So what will be the approach to the Phoenix match?Yeah, I don’t think the result matters as much in the Phoenix game but, in saying that, you never like losing. It’s more of a good opportunity for us to get underway again and get back to what we’ve been working on. We need to dust off a few cobwebs from the break and hopefully put on a good performance to help us get ready for the weekend."

Pearce has been good for a long time. Someone told me that the reason why he didn't make the jump was that he goes missing a bit a times...Any reason why he hasn't seen more time for either AWs or trials for pro clubs?

Pearce is a good footballer but the knock on him is that he can be a bit of a loner within a team and likes to call his own number on the pitch a lot. Don't think he likes Auckland much.

Actually, not liking the place you live in can have a pretty impact on job performance in general, and there's certainly been quite a few footballers around the world who have experienced this.

I remember watching him in that NZFC All Stars v the AWs 'A' team before the WC and he looked fairly good and quite sharp there...and he's often done impressive things in the past for Waitak...another one to go in the nearly men box with Clapham

Knitters are gloating that an ASBP side barely beat THAT team?
Too funny.

I don't understand this - does he run around the pitch constantly shouting "6.....6......6..6...6...6"???

Hi Tegal

Obviously, I'm a bit dim but can you direct me to where "knitters" are gloating? Thanks.

And while we're at it can someone explain what a "knitter" is and why they get that name? Thanks

This is a favourite phrase of the Dark Lords brother. He also used it in reference to Luis Corrales if my memory serves me correctly.

Do you recall how Dimairo played for the Nix A?  Looking at the team list he would have been playing full back.  Zimbabwean boy.
