I know, I know, hester pointed to the spot, so it was a penalty, but....

The replays defintiely showed McKain's shirt was being pulled by Brosque, and the look on Brosque's face was almost one of apology when the decision was given.

Robbed in my opinion

Lord Fergie of Fergiehead would have accused Hester of being too unfit to ref

certainly a ref who had kept up with play or a lino who'd been awake might have given us the freekick before the 'dive'

from where Hester saw it he had no choice, he was behind the play so couldn't see Brosque pulling on the jersey and had to award the penalty for what looked - to him - to be a trip in the box. It makes me wonder what the friggin assistant was watching cos they should have been able to see the shirt pulling and raised the flag early.

Should have been a free kick to the Phoenix. Soft penalty.

May have been soft, but have certainly seen softer penalties given. At the end of the day, its in the paper, they scored from it so it must have been a penalty. No amount of whining about it will change that.

it was horse sht call from Hester. In an age when defenders are being given the benefit due to diving it was never a pen.

I thought the result was 1 - 0 to them?

btw, it's "would HAVE lost"!

The most telling part of the entire slowmo, is the fact that halfway through Brosque's obvious dive, he still has a handful of McKain's shirt.

And of course the referees get 100+ times to watch the tackle in slow mo while in a game situation...  Of course Hester was going to give it, what else could he of done?

and Tim Brown's left foot side foot past the keeper that was cleared of the line, and the other chance Tim Brown had - thats three.  If you ignore the fact that McKains jumper was tugged it was a penalty as Brosque's leg was clipped, but was only clipped because of the tug!

Too true, we have all watched it so many times on TV but the ref had to make a disision on the spot. Also the ref was at an angle were he was behind Mcain so it would have looked like Sydney had got an obvious penalty. But from a range of camera angles we can conclude that if anyone was being fouled it was Mcain. However I feel that the ref made the right descision at the time.

Hester wasn't giving it, it was his assistant on the far side who was much further away from the incident who flagged it... a man who couldn't see Brosque causing the foul by pulling McKain's shirt and dragging him on to him. Hard News2009-12-15 09:34:58

Bollocks, I called it at the game that he took a dive. Watching it on the reply only reaffirms what I was yelling at the referee during the game.

Quite frankly, I think people are making excuses with the 'his ankle was clipped' arguement. He had time to keep his feet, he decided to dive.

We want to get rid of this crap from football, people make excuses for it. We complain about the standard of refereeing, we're making excuses for the referee being behind the play.

The team played like arse the entire 90 minutes, but they never deserved to be down by a crap penalty.

That's what I thought when I saw it on telly.

Tbh, I've never been a fan of his. Spends more time on his arse, complaining, than he does playing football. Which is a shame, cos I think he's actually a pretty decent player when he puts his mind to it.

Yeah, totally that is what makes the way he carries on even more annoying I think, he has ability and pace to burn, but he resorts to cheating. Is it just me or does it seem like we (The Nix) don't really do that kind of thing? I can recall Brown maybe winning a dodgy one, but not much more than that?

Watch the youtube video before the the slow mo replay. It looks like Mckain has dragged him down which is what the Ref/AR has seen. From that it looks like Brosques arm is being tugged by Mckain. I can't see the shirt puling in normal speed from the normal speed.. Hence why it's a pen.

But lol @ the slow mo.

Guess it's all about the angles, from where I was standing on sat I could clearly see Brosque yanking on Mckains shirt in real time, but that don't mean squat if the ref/lino has a different angle of view. I love stating the obvious...

I called it too, as did the other completly unbiased observers around me. That game should have been one of the more dour 0-0 draws I have ever seen. Instead it was a dull 1-0 won by a moment of deception.

Coveny won a few penalties for us IIRC, not necessarely cheating, but very sly.
You know we belong together...

Coveny worked for those penalties.  He went into the box and drew the players who would clumsily foul him.  From memory one of them was a bit dodgy but the rest were all legit.

Yeah, not really a pen. Didn't score off it anyway. Actually, I don't think we have scored a pen all season?

Only just saw the Brosque penalty.  As someone mentioned he looks a bit apologetic afterwards but when he first hit the ground he looked up as if to say it was a penalty.  McKain was very, very hard done by.  Hopefully we take our rage out against Adelaide on friday.

And was the linesman on the side of the field closest to the two or on the other side?  Should have been picked up regardless, mind.

The linesman you are talking about was very slow with a number of his calls and did miss a couple of blatant things.

Just another comment; I was in the main grandstand and probably in line with the linesman and it was obvious that Brosque had got in front of McKain. I said to myself "watch it and don't bring him down" as it was only Crowther between him and the net. I wasn't surprised with the call because it looked like a penalty to me. Admitedly i didn't see any jersey pulling but saw McKain remonstrating with the ref that his jersey was pulled.  That was probably the case but McKain brought him down once he got in front of him I believe.

With this view from the goal side camera it is quite clear from the slo-mo replay Brosque is still holding McKain as he begins his dive.
This achieved 2 things.
It ensured that McKain would be locked with Brosque all the way into the penalty area-he clipped his heel as he went behind Brosque- despite lifting his arms clear to signal he was being held.
Secondly, and most importantly,Brosque pulling McKain to him ensured that the ref and possibly the asst ref too -had no clear view of the foul and thus made a guess...hence the yellow.

It is obvious front-on, from the goal side camera shots, the review panel ought to be able rule on it in just the same way they were able to rule on Sigmund's misdemeanor from last week....imo.

To further stick my neck out..get out your choppers!... is it too late for review by the panel?
If they did review and agree it was simulation what would happen to the points awarded?
