Wow! Didn't expect that at all. Thought this year was going to be one of disappointment before his contract eventually wound down.

This is most excellent news for a dreary rainy Wednesday evening.

Considering he was all but sold before he failed his medical this is a surprise.

Interesting he has been re loaned back to the same club given they arguably mishandled his injury.

How far away was he with his injury? I thought I read initially it was 3-4 months and that's why he missed the AW's playoff match with Costa Rica, so by my calculations that's already 6 weeks. 

How long was he rehabilitating before that though? Can't imagine he'd be too far away. Any info appreciated!

Really hope he can now put this injury behind him and kick on in Europe. Would be a real shame to see him go a similar way to Marco after such a strong start 

Sorry to say I had the cynical thought that Bayern expected them to do this because they mishandled the injury and that he may not play much this year…

I'd say he's going more the direction of Ryan Thomas right now. Rojas seems to have hit his limit talent wise (until he was back at Victory didn't have too many injury problems in Europe?); Thomas and Singh both hitting big injuries in Europe though when their career was on the up.

The big kicker in Rojas' career was breaking a bone in his foot right after joining Stuttgart

It'd be interesting to see the intricacies of the contract extension, because I would have thought being a free agent would actually be more beneficial for Singh. Typically, at least in elite players, free agent deals are more financially appealing to players as some of the money that would have been spent on a transfer fee can be negotiated into a larger signing-on fee.

The fee that Bayern accepted from Werder was reportedly €300,000 - 400,000, so it's a bit surprising they'd go through the effort. That's essentially a negligible fee for a club of Bayern's size, they pay Leroy Sane that every week for example. Even if he replicates last season's form they likely wouldn't receive much more than that, as Bayern are notoriously poor sellers, and interested clubs know he has no real place in Bayern's first or second teams, so they can negotiate down.

I'm stoked that Singh has re-signed with the club, but it does feel a little odd that he is being loaned out to the same club that mis-managed his injury. Maybe there's been some assurances given? I guess it's all on Sarpreet now, to get fit and prove he can be the star in Europe that we all think he can be. He's clearly a long way from getting into a Bayern team but while he's in Germany and signed with them there's still a chance he gets called back. Just hope he doesn't end up being another one like Thomas who gets to Europe and his progress is stalled due to injuries.

It's such a shame that two of our most talented players of this generation have both been hamstrung by injuries.

Not sure about the injury stuff, but it’s league 2, good standard, club he knows and did well at, close to Munich, makes sense

It is a sign they still have faith in him for sure. Doubt he is on high wages & if they get 3-400k with a big sell on percentage for him, its still a good deal for them.

After 4 years in Germany would he be close to citizenship? Could help his future in European football as well !

Different kind of talent and obviously Winston had a bloody good career, but it applies to Reid as well. If his body didn't give out on him he probably would still be in the Prem today.

100% agree with this.

Just seen the break in 2.Bundesliga goes from mid November until the end of January. Might be a more realistic timeframe for him to make his return.

Henry Cameron & Liam Graham both did theirs on AWs duty, and basically their careers were over. That's just from the small sample size of NZ footballers of recent times.

Christ, I'd completely forgotten about Cameron and Graham. Both incredibly unlucky and you'd have to think if not for their injuries they would still probably be in the national team

From memory Mark Viduka had that injury/condition early in his career, and yet went to play for a long time at a high level.  And with the greatest of respect to a Socceroos legend, I'd suggest Sarpreet takes a slightly better approach to his health, conditioning, nutrition etc than Big Mark did back in the day...

"Osteitis pubis was exactly what Mark had, and he had it pretty bad," Smith said.

"Six weeks later, after receiving treatment three times a day, every day of the week, he couldn't jog for more than five minutes.

"He said to me: 'I think my career has gone. I actually think I'm finished'.

"He was really down, and was convinced it really was all over for him.

"It was a pretty desperate situation. But we told him to be patient and have faith. The last thing any of us wanted to think about was his career being crocked before it had even got going.

"It took many months before he could even consider getting back into serious training. It was a big lesson for him."

Ironically, during Viduka's time at the AIS, players were routinely screened for osteitis pubis, and Viduka, then 16, had been randomly singled out as at high risk due to inadequate hip rotation.

He embarked on a rigorous stretching and maintenance routine at the behest of the AIS medics, only to ditch it when he broke through for his boyhood club the Knights, mainly because of the merciless Micky taking from teammates.

"He never had a problem at the AIS, was always fit and never missed training," Smith said.

"When I asked him about this, he said: 'to be honest with you, I used to do all my own stretching (at the Knights) but the players took the piss out of me and I stopped doing it. They said you don't have to do all that rubbish'.

"And, unfortunately, a couple of years later Mark paid the price for it.

I had this for close to two years. I had very good medical care through my dad's insurance and my futsal team at the time, but I really struggled to get back into it. Admittedly after about 1 year I just upped sticks and moved to NZ, so for a few months I wasn't really bothered by it as I was on holiday. 
In the end it was Derek Young, then TW physio who gave me some amazing stretches and allowed me to come back and play. I still use these stretches today when the old groin flares up. 
Sad to read about Viduka's experience, the locker room can be quote a toxic place. But also a professional (or someone who aspired to be one) needs to take matters into their own hands and do what needs to be done, no matter what others think. 
I believe Sapreet was badly managed last year and made to play through his injury when he shouldn't have. 
He will certainly have learned a good lesson and will be more outspoken in the future when his body just isn't up to it. 
Hopefully the worst is behind him and he gets himself a great season (or three quarters of it) and then a move to the Bundesliga!

I feel so selfish wanting him back playing, because he is such an amazing footballer to watch. 

I do feel bad for him as a guy stymied in his career, but as a fan he’s really a generational footballer (though you hope Old and Karunaratne and others can challenge that!) and I want to be able to watch his play and success! 

Come on Sarpreet! Hope to see you back and in a first tier league sooner rather than later. 

After starting season with 3 wins (incl a German Cup tie win on pens), JR are now winless in 5 games (3L & 2D). That includes 0-6 (H) & 4-0 (A) hidings, to sit 12th after 7 games.

Get Bremen back on the phone as soon as he can pass a medical. Although he's played some of his best football at Jahn, they've terribly mismanaged him.

The Sporting Director has lost his job over the stuff up as well! Club clearly not happy to be missing out on ~2 months of Singh.

Does 2. Bundesliga break for the World Cup? Would soften the blow slightly, and it can only be good news for his recovery

Last match is 13th November and then break until 29th January. So the blow is softened somewhat.
Still missing a lot of footy between now and then as they've got 9 matches before the break.

Still, what an absolutely ridiculous situation this is. Singh will be absolutely spewing. Feel for the lad.
