At this stage, I just want him to be playing somewhere. Get 30+ games starting under his belt and then re-evaluate things in a years time.

It's not like he has just opted for the cash and headed for India.

He wanted a fair whack from Auckland to be fair as well...

How far the talks got is another thing. But I would be surprised if second tier Portugal would come anywhere near close to what he was after $$$ wise.

Based on my limited googling....Quality wise I'd say the Portugal 2nd division is better or similar to the a League. And you are still in the shop window for Europe.

Money ... who knows.

Nope. Suspensions don't carry over between countries.

It all UEFA so yes he probably will carry the 2 game suspension. I think.

The move sounds like a last minute ticket to get onto the last train (even though he was free agent). On a positive note, the few (about 5 or 6) South Africans that did start in Liga 2 did end up in the top division. Sarpreets 1 year contract looks like his backing himself to do just that. At 25 he needs to kick on.

Singh got sent off in Hana Rostock's penultimate game of last season. Ironically in the same match at Schalke he scored in. He was suspended for the last game of HR's season, so if was a 2 match ban he's already served half of it.

No Singh for a 1-1 draw.

Watching these somewhat lacklustre transfers he's had, is it possible his agent is a bit shark?

Leiria have their first Taca De Portugal match against fourth tier Camacha.

Good chance for Singh to make his debut.

Anyone know if he started or was actually in the matchday squad?

A 1-1 draw, and still no Singh.
Paperwork a bit slow to process in Portugal? Injured again?

Still no Singh as Leiria lose 1-0.
Soccerway says they had 66% possession, so Singh when fit could come straight in with his creativity.

He's either still getting his transfer paperwork sorted (unlikely), or injured (likely).

If this doesn't go well he may as well come back to the a league.

He wanted some ridiculous coin from Auckland who baulked at the prospect.

Not sure what second tier Portugal is up to wage wise, but I'd be bloody surprised if he was even getting ⅓ of what was on the table from Auckland.

Can’t say I’m a fan of the Sarpreet Ka-Ching era

I get it. Footballers have a very limited shelf life and need to get the best pay they can while they can, as I’d bet very few study/train while playing and after retirement they’re playing catch-up career-wise. Unless of course they made bank in which case who cares.

That said, given how poorly his career is going, how injury prone he is, and how at risk of fading into obscurity he is, you’d think he’d try not to price himself out of the market.

Shaun Gill on the pod said the Nix had spoken to Singh or his agent at some point over the last year, but it was made clear Sarpreet still wants to persist in Europe.

I'm guessing he said the same to Auckland, but yeah hey if you are willing to pay me crazy money, I'll change my mind. Don't see much wrong with that.

But yes he really needs this season in Portugal to be a good one. Hopefully he has chosen the right club.

Dunno whether singh of his agent realises this but not getting on the field for a losing team is not a good look going forward. Either the manager doesnt rate you or he doesnt want to play you because of attitude. 12th in the second tier Portuguese leagues deosnt scream I'm succeeding in Europe!

Pretty sure I've read he is injured, but also when he signed was news the transfer paperwork would take a bit of time.

Edit - https://www.sen.com.au/news/2024/10/01/listen-i-coach-bazeley-discusses-all-whites-squad-selections-before-start-of/

One notable absence is midfielder Sarpreet Singh. Having recently signed with Portugal's União de Leiria, Singh missed the American tour due to injury.

Bazeley said they hope to have him back for their November qualifying window against Vanuatu and Samoa, after he's had a chance to gain some match conditioning.

Pretty much read it exactly as you stated in that second paragraph there. Price yourself high in the domestic market and see what price you can fetch abroad. He'll still be on a pretty good wicket over in Portugal, though, like I said, I'd be surprised if it was reaching the level of what I'd been told he'd wanted back here in NZ.

It all sounds like the the New Zealand export market in a nutshell - Milk, Butter, Beef and Lamb. Add Sarpreet to that list too! 🤣
