Has anyone heard any promotions at all for this Friday's game?

I thought they were giving away OSFG flags and stuff but I've heard nothing.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Ive heard one ad on Radio Sport but nothing else, would be interesting to get Tonys response to the questions you posed in the other thread Smithy after the club put the skids on the plan you guys had developed.

i got this email:

Now Wellington Phoenix fans who attend Friday nights Hyundai A-League clash against Melbourne Victory at Westpac Stadium will have the chance to secure their own piece of incredible memorabilia. Courtesy of Wellington Phoenix and Positively Wellington Tourism, fans who attend Friday nights game will go into to win one of 40 One Shot For Glory streetflags that were displayed throughout Wellington city in the lead-up to the big game.

The large streetflags are the perfect memento from a perfect night for New Zealand football. Even better, all 40 flags are signed by the Phoenixs six All Whites Mark Paston, Tony Lochhead, Ben Sigmund, David Mulligan, Leo Bertos and Tim Brown as well as Phoenix and New Zealand head coach Ricki Herbert.

All you need to do to be in with a shot for one of these valuable collectibles is buy your ticket for Friday nights game online at www.ticketek.co.nz or from the Phoenix club store on Hunter St. All current Wellington Phoenix season members will be automatically entered in the draw.

If youre a Phone-Nix member you get another chance to win on gameday. Five streetflags will be won by Phone-Nix members on the night. You must be a Phone-Nix member to enter the draw. If you are yet to sign up, text JOIN to 3211. Once registered, you can enter the prize draw by texting GLORY to 3933 before 6pm on Friday.

The Phone-Nix winners will be contacted at the game and must be there to collect their prize

Yeah, for a big push to boost crowd numbers, have not seen much advertising except the usuall stuff.

Get some people walking round handing out fliers at the Basin. Supposed to be a nice day, perfect way to cap off your Friday.

Smithy - there was also a comp in the dom post to win a couple from the council, I don't have the email address or details you need to enter though.

They've been running the competition in the Dom Post for the last week and a bit to fly into the stadium in the chopper, and win flights to watch the return match in Melbourne in January.

So there has been some sideline promotions going on to attract attention to this game.

Personally, I think they should be making more of the fact we're playing the top of the table team, and the Phoenix are in 6th spot in finals contention.

There are some really clear opportunities to spell it out to the general public that the Phoenix are performing well. But you would never see that by looking at the match posters which is essentially Greenacre every time with a time and date.

Need some better direct marketing noting things like "13 wins at home unbeaten", "Support the Phoenix in their race to the Finals", "Watch the Phoenix take on the league leaders Melbourne Victory" etc.

The general public who don't follow the A-League are really not going to look this stuff up on the internet, and I doubt a lot of them read the articles on Stuff often enough to figure this out.

Some times being blatantly direct about things is a good option.

Handed out flyers this arvo. At one stage I accidently tried to offer one to Ben Sigmund, turns out he's a bit busy friday night.

Just bought my tickets (having not won the DomPost comp and missing out on the helicopter ride to the stadium) and they are numbers 6433-6435 - so maybe we're 2/3rds of the way to 10,000.

Are these ticket numbers inclusive of season tickets?

I thought the 5k was always going to be there for ticket sales.
But the crowd number is judged by how many people pass through the turnstiles.

Haven't we covered this before?

Yes this is why the Stadium figure was not at full capacity for the AWs game. Despite the fact it was sold out.wellyphoenixfan2009-12-02 19:22:53

Yeah ticket sales and attendance are completely different things. Im quite sure those MOJO freebies will be counted as sales even, but not all would turn up (especially if the weather is dodgy). Same goes for ticket season holders.

Ticket sales is how many have tickets to the game. Attendance is how many turn up at the game.

Allegedly

Last time I was in Welly I took two taxis. One driver was Croatian, the other was Greek. Neither had heard of the Phoenix, although both were football fans. Not good enough.

Until you have some sort of "Taxi drivers get in free' policy, your crowds will suffer imo.

If this is they guy I'm thinking of, he's been to quite a few Phoenix games. Maybe it was just your slurred drunken speech that confused him.

a) Are you sure it was Welly and not e.g. Auckland or ChCh? ...or Levin.

b) How long ago?

c) All of the taxi drivers I've spoken to know about the Nix.  But did have one Greek who was into League??!!?? (but did know of Terry).

Different horses I think..as fans we want to see a connection and flow on but I dont think it will swell the Nix ranks.  A good increase I thought over past gates..and a promo via Mojo albeit it ran out prettty quick.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen
