Regardless of the makeup of the midfield I think it's a good thing McKain plays at the back.  He's (porbably) our best defender, so he should play there.

Siggy > McKain

Porbably... ARF !

Well even if he is in the top 2 he should be playing there, especially when our defence is CLEARLY a problem!

Normo's coming home

Folks, don't mean to be picky or come across as too much of a cheerleader, but these articles are either exact copies or basic re-writes of the clubs press-release.

How about we try and link the club article rather than sending people to the aus sites.  I can guarantee you there are people dim enough at the FFA to complain that there is no interest in the Phoenix due to a shortage of website hits.

Try to give the club your love.

So McKain at CB and Siggy at rb I guess?

I wouldn't bet on that Dura, has a history at full back and Siggy has been the better CB this season.

I still don't understand why Lia isn't going to get a go at right back? Seems a bit strange to break up the CB partnership

Same. Plus someone will proably have a better memory than me, but when McKain and Durante came to the club they were paired and wasn't the pairing woeful? It seems that Durante and Siggy may well be starting to click. Could be all Paston's doing though

No one has said that Lia won't.  Maybe we're all on the wrong track and Siggie is going back to being a midfielder.

That would be a mistake imo. Mind you, his distribution couldn't be any worse than the midfield stuff we've been seeing recently.

Lia deserves a start, whatever position it is in. I don't say he's set the world on fire so far (made a bit of a hash of that free header against Brisbane) but he's obviously up for the workload.

Siggy will almost def be right back. Hardly gonna play him somewhere else, and they wont move Dura. Which means Brown will start

Lia has the incentive doesn't he. having missed an entire season he's got some games to make up. He's got a good attitude and a decent workrate. Hope he starts for either Diego or Ferente whom at some stage will come right.

------------Paston/Crowther------------

Siggie------McKain---Dura-----Lochy--

--------Lia------Brown----Diego----------
-------------------Leo----------------------
------------Ifill--------Greenacre---------

Bench:
Hearfield
Ferrante
Costa
Crowther/Paston

Love to see something like this, just to see Leo tearing down the middle providing Ifill and Greeny like he did for the Newcastle game. He's clearly not 'just' a winger, no doubt Ricki will be more conservative and play a 4-5-1 or something....

If McKain is CB, which he is, I would assume Brown is back in. We'd need someone that can tackle. not sure why some suggest Diego would start on last weeks effort?

I think Diego should be given his last chance. I bet he will be so fired up - remember it is Adelaide, his former club, and he's really going to want to prove his old coach wrong and also make up for what happened last week.

I really don't want the squad changing too dramatically.

yeah what was the deal there? anyone find out why he was taken off? looked fine at training today.

Well apart from passing like shiite and looking generally out of sorts......
actually part of it was a strategic move by Ricki. That korean guy was getting so much free space down the flanks and putting in some dangerous crosses. So Ricki decided he needed him shut down....so on comes Lia and does exactly that.

as alluded to in DomPost a midfield of Bertos Daniel Bown and Lia wouldnt do it for me....Daniel and Brown starting is not what we need to win what is a winnable game..its too conservative.  Go all out attack from the start and then re think if needs be at half time.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

Rikki wants Siggy to get some time at right back pre WCQ perhaps? (allows Nelsen and Vicelich in the middle)

Would prefer to see Durante at RB, and assuming the 4-2-3-1 then Brown and Lia holding, and Ifill, Bertos and Daniel across the midfield.

I still don't think it is the obvious decision to slot McKain into CB and push either Siggy or Dura to RB. Out of those 3, IMHO McKain is the more skilful and I would prefer someone with a bit more skill at RB so that when they join the attack they offer something a bit more. That way you keep the settled CB pairing and have McKain marshalling the flanks and charging up in attack.

If anything Durante has the most experience at RB, and McKain/Siggy in the middle is a lot of height and dominance in the air.  Will be interesting to see how they line up, but I for one would rather Siggy stay in CB than Durante.

For me, McKain and Durante are too similar to play together at the back. I'm not a fan of the idea to be honest.

If you want someone charging up the flanks and able to deliver a quality ball in then it's Lia, followed by Siggy, hoof ball Durante and then McKain. McKain has always said he much prefers CB to being in the middle, so when Manny was out maybe he was one of the people who pushed for it.

Do theres no way Diego will be playing then? I feel like its pretty harsh to not give him a game against his former club, and if we play 4213 then he is more likely to play better than Daniel in the attacking midfield role. When he played  against Perth he played a lot better, and I think he was more central..  so has he been completely dropped????

Don't know if Daniel has a whole game in him.  I hope he does. But I think playing both Brown, Lia and Daniel all in midfield would be a risk seeing as none have started for the past weeks.

I can't see a reason why Ricki would drop Ferrante either. I'm not a fan but I don't think he was that terrible compared to the rest of the team.

I guess Ricki will look at 4213 or 4231 for this game. I wouldn't mind 442 though

I think Ricki could play something like this:

                     Paston
Seamonster Drante McKain Lockhead
            Ferrante    Lia
Bertos           Daniel           Ifill
                  Greenacre

Crowther  //  Brown // Hearfield // Chen

It could work, and I hope it does. Theres always the option of 442 with mids of Bertos, Brown,  Ferrante and Lia at RM??

Hope we get to see some of Chen too

I'll be surprised if we don't play Ifill and Greenacre up front.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see Costa or Marco sneak on to the bench.

Also at the forefront of Herbert's mind is giving Kiwi teenager Marco Rojas, who has been impressive in training, his first spot on the bench.

"If you're there on Friday night, you'll see," he said.

"Hypothetically, if I played Marco it's because he's good enough. He's a good little talent, like Costa [Barbarouses] is, and they'll certainly get some time this year, if not at the weekend."

Might be Fred's wish, but it sounds like Marco ahead of Costa for tomorrow.Wait and see.

Yeah I agree but sneak on for who?
K lets agree we play a 442 then?
                                                                         // BENCH
                       Paston                                           Crowther
    Sigmund Durante McKain  Lochhead                    Hearfield
    Bertos    Lia       Ferrante      Daniel                     Rojas
             Greenacre   Ifill                                        Chen

So no Brown or Diego at all? I think we might see Brown on the Bench , and then Rojas depending on whether Chen is up to it yet.
Guess Rojas could always jump over Hearfield?
I wouldn't mind a bench of Brown, Rojas, Chen?

Not sure if Brown should be on the bench though. Don't really see him as an impact player

I agree. McKain still has ambitions to play for Australia and currently his best bet on making the squad is at CB where other than Lucash Neil they are a bit weak.

I think Brown will play so he has game time ahead of trip to Jordon..a variation of club v country argument.  I wldnt want him to play or be on the bench but...

I'm hoping that Ferrante stays out of the squad too, but I reckon you'll see Lia come in for him and Brown come in to the starting line up for McKain who'll drop back with Durante in the CB's

two up front fer sure!

If that's the eleven, then surely we play two up front and Daniel and Leo go wide in a standard 4-4-2.
