Or maybe it was just a very lacklustre performance tonight?

Never mind. The world keeps turning, tomorrow it will still be raining in Wgtn and there are a few days to get into the right frame of mind for the next game.

Oh, don't get me wrong, we were sh*t. I just thought the ref was sh*t too.

Gutless (lack of effort), stupid (Dadi even taking the penalty given the emotion,)  poor (terrible marking at the back), ill disciplined (dumb cards) performance.

I groaned. Before he took it, I gave him a 10% chance to get it.

Yup.  I would have even more preferred Farante taking it to be honest.  Though....

I put $5 on us winning that.  Admittedly it wasn't, strictly speaking, my money, but I'm pissed!

They should all, bar Reddy and Caceres, donate their pay for this week to a charity.  Reddy was horribly exposed for the first goal and I wouldn't have blamed him if he didn't bother moving for it.  For the second goal, well bugger me, where was the defence?

All over the park we were garbage.  Hearfield should never step foot in left-back again.  Put Muscat there.  Start Caceres next week.  Can't see us beating Melbourne after that.

Nobody was above a 6.  Infact Caceres would be the only 6.

Dadi gets a 3.5 for me.  And that isn't only because of the penalty miss.

Melbourne have even less of a turn around time than we do for that game. Even though they are at home they'll still be tired. We have a decent chance, especially if we play as well as we did at EtiTard last time.

"

The match had a curious sub-plot involving Phoenix defender Manny Muscat who was issued a yellow card in the seventh minute for a challenge on Chris Coyne.

Muscat had the card taken off him by referee Ben Shepheard at half-time, the official giving it to Tim Brown instead.

But most of the crowd still thought he was on a caution when he received another yellow just after the hour, sparking queries as to why he wasn't dismissed."

Is that muppet actually allowed to do that?  I'm pretty sure he isn't.  Could that mean Muscat gets suspended by the review committee?

I am thinking that we need to change the team name to just "The Phoenix".... as everything with Wellington associated with it is as inconsistent as the weather (well not this summer as it has been Sh*te)

Fans need to understand what a bitch of an away trip this is. Wellington are consistently sh*t in Perth.

I thought we were ok, but you guys offered nothing in attack. Probably the worst away team to come to Perth this year a long with Newcastle. But its very hard to get a point on the World's longest football trip.

It made my birthday great. Penalty was a talking point in the pub after the match...First time I have ever seen an opposition player who previously played for the club come and thank the fans after the match. I think the Wellington v Glory game came up too quickly...Eugene wasn't mentally ready to play a club that he has obviously very strong feelings for...other than the coach.

Just watched the game, we were terrible but how Perth didn't get a player sent off after the couple of punches on Troy in the first half I will never know. absolutely poor officiating (as was no yellow card for the elbow on Manny).

With luck the FFA will have a look at those 2 incidents and take action but as its against the Phoenix I'm not holding my breath.

In our defence the trip to Perth is a nightmare, I was there in December and it took about 3 days before I got used to the time zone, no excuse for the penalty miss though.

Watched highlights on YouTube. It was only 1:43 long but it looked like rather a physical encounter. Dadi's missed penalty . I can see what he was thinking but seriously...

Apparently the longest football trip in a domestic competition belongs in Russia.

minor headache, moderate heartache following that match, crap weather and the Tigers trot over to Man U tonight - seems like this weekend is off to a poor start

and i wasn't going to comment but i think that penalty 'effort' is destined to be filed under mental scarring and haunt me for years to come

was he suffering from delayed concussion?

and does Ricki designate the pen takers before the match?

aaaaahhhhh

AND - if we don't get anything at Melb (i think we can) i wonder whether the players (apart from Siggy) might have preferred to return to YF and the RoF as opposed to going to chch - to get back into winning ways at our 'fortress'

Not any longer - Valdivostock got relegated last season, when they were in the Russian Premier League, their fixture against St Petersburg was the longest domestic football trip. Perth v Wellington has retaken that mantle.

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

We were clearly missing Lochhead.
Bring Back George,
Sack Rikki.

Seriously though, losing to Perth is one thing but letting the worse striker in the A-League score against us, terrible.

Greenacre or Ifill should of taken that penalty. Funny thing is I thought that was the strongest Phoenix team on paper before the game.

That finally puts to rest the old "he'll be extra motivated/will play really well up against his old club" garbage.

I cant believe that Dadi steps into the team and becomes the penalty taker. Based on what? Ifill has shown he knows how to hit them hard. If the decision was to let Dadi get one against his old club, then it was a poor decision.

Sleeping on the result I'm still pis*ed at that, I just hope Dadi didn't demand that penalty because if he did I can understand why Perth let him go.

Edit: I really don't like reading about a player from the away team saluting the home fans after the game makes me even more angry.

From Facebook: - Dadi just wanted to say us glory fans still love ya thanks for commin to the shed after..

Totally agree. Should of been Ifill or atleast greenacre. very poor decision to let Dadi take the penalty. It was a vital game.

Crucial things to consider:

1. Really naff shirts
2. NO lucky head bandage (I mean the closest was Dadi's beany/head warmer) - Perth had one (need I say more)
3. Different time zone - see above
4. Most likely key players biorythyms had a double zero.
5. See Tyler's post about 'pyul winning

Really not surprised at the result in the light of day (albeit overcast and drizzling).

From the A League website match report

"But with tempers calmed it was time for former Glory man Eugene Dadi to shine from the spot. Unfortunately for the 36-year-old, he delivered one of the worst penalties seen this season, a proppy run seeing him off balance as he stroked the ball tamely into Velaphi's waiting arms."

proppy= ?
Couldn't run properly? Pro does crappy?

Now that I have cooled down a bit I am not that dispondent. Away in Perth with the time difference and the heat is a tough tough assignment. Plus Ricki would probably admit he made some dumb calls.

The 442 they changed two in the second half worked better. Siggy at RB and Troy at LB did not work. He kept the 3 midfilders and 3 up front from last week but there was no overlapping play from Locky on the left and Troy on the right....so the whole attack struggled

Sometime Ricki is too rigid and concervative with his selections. It is all well to say don't change a winning side but the loss of Locky should have triggered a rethink. Troy is not a LB. Manny looked OK there. We have two good DMs in Brown and Lia. Caceras has been excellent recently and has had little oportunity. The best formation would have been a 442 with Ifill and Dadi upfront and Caceras and bertos wide. Then bring Greenie on later.

As for the penalty miss....I don't blame Dadi. Why would you give someone that responsibility when they are carrying a serious head injury and have all the emotional baggage of returning to your home town in front of your family and old fans?

this is not the end of the world. We have just won three in a row. Melbourne will be tough but if the coach gets the right selection and the right players then we can get points there.

Didn't see the game last night due to just getting back from camping. Watched the clip from youtube with my 10yr old daughter and 7 yr old son just now. When I swore 'sh.t' at seeing the penalty with them present. My 10yr old said she "could think of somthing better to say" and my 7yr old put his hands to his head and said " he must have hurt his head in that last game to kick like that, because he kicked like a girl." Out of the mouths of babes.

Sure the trip to Perth is tough (distance / time zones) but give due credit to Perth - 3 games in 6 days including travelling to Melbourne and Adelaide - when the going gets tough the tough..........
