Opponent Match-up Weightings – Methodology
  • Due to the uneven number of Rounds for Season 2019/20 (e.g. 29 Rounds / 26 matches per Club), each Club will play a minimum of two matches against each other Club.
  • Select “third” opponent match-ups will be determined according to agreed methodology.
Key Principles
  • Priority 1: Maximise Hyundai A League broadcast metrics
  • Priority 2: Fairness and competition integrity for all clubs
  • Priority 3: Maximise Hyundai A-League attendance metrics and other commercial priorities

Does anyone think that they have the top 2 Key principles around the wrong way?

Surely the basis for any competition is that it is fair for all teams?

Hopefully we can push for one of our third match-ups to be an additional 'yellow home strips derby'.

Nah, a couple more weeks. Domey said the clubs would get a copy mid July and they get to submit any issues. So probably the week after that (week starting 22nd).

First issue should be; why aren't we all playing the same teams the same number of times.

If A-League clubs now own their own competition surely they can use some common sense on the draw.

Fox only wants 26 games a season. The clubs are not in the position to force them to accept more games.

Please Domey, NO MORE Sunday 7pm or 7:30pm games, they kill our metrics. A few more 3pm games would be great, we could be the lead into the football on Fox, all be it at 1pm their time.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

1pm KO in an Australian summer would be a ratings black hole.

On last pod I think Dome said for Fox, they find post around 6.30pm AEST is always far and away the best ratings timeslot. On a Sunday it becomes a bit earlier so a 7.30pm NZ (5.30pm NSW/VIC) works well for the paymasters. It was something along those lines.

Certainly a viewing sweet spot that was a very big increase, on any other time slots.

Domey said we only had 2 options available for our preferred time slot, 7:30pm Sat or 7:30pm Sunday. He mentioned that its 7:50pm for the Aussie teams cuz the Fox Sports guys say the difference in TV audience with kick off being 20 mins later is massive.

You say that like the Phoenix have any say in when the games are played. We all know it comes down to Fox and Nix have very little choice on the day and time.

We will have a few Sunday games, it will probably just come down to how many and if we can get them on Sundays where Monday is a public holiday or it is during school holidays.

I'm an optimistic pessimist.
I'm positive things will go wrong.

No he says it like he still thinks all football should be played at the traditional time of 3pm on a Saturday #oldskool

I'm not bothered about when we play, apart from Sunday though.  In Scotland, the 12:15pm Sunday slot was murder. No one can get boozed, everyone is still hungover and generally no-one wants to be there. Friday evening and any time on Sat are good with me.  But we don't have a say in when our fixtures will be.

3pm on a Sunday or even 5pm, I am ok with but kids have school the next day and 8 year olds should be bathed and in PJ's by 8pm not 10PM or later depending how far you have to travel. Those with children will understand. I could never figure why one had to get pushed to watch a game although after watching some of the dress over the years, I could understand getting pissed after it.

Play each other 4 times, 2 at home, 2 away and ditch the finals. 44 games, 22 at home, awesome.

So what? Fox don't have to televise something for the points to count.

Don't televise them.

Or sell them to someone else.

Let TV people decide TV stuff and football people decide football stuff.

Fox pays a great chunk of the bills. It's as simple as that.

So as Fans why don't we voice the idea a bit more loudly. I am sure there would be a lot of fans whom would enjoy an earlier kick off. Doing nothing doesn't achieve anything and at least I am voicuing the idea and explaining why.

Nix first home game nearly always clashes with Bathurst so that makes sense.

When the FFA have openly said that maximising broadcast metrics is a higher priority than maximising attendance, it's safe to say they won't change the kick-off times to get more people going

Jets were one of them it sounds, they didn't like having a stretch of away games to start the season & having Saturday 5:30PM KO's for all their home games.
