Was number 16 of Queensland Roar like an ex kiwi player or something? Why was everyone booing at him?

If you're talking about who I think you're talking about, the booing is because he's a dirty, cheating little gobsh*te and it relates to an incident in one of our games against them last season.

After paying this question some careful consideration I think I have to answer- Yes. I'd prefer if it was one of our players being sneaky enough to suck a ref into sending off the opposition's poorly disciplined marquee player, but yeh it's a professional game he saw an opportunity and took it. I certainly don't condone foul play though.

To be honest I feel the same way about things like diving/simulation, especially when you consider the standard of refereeing we have in the A-League!
I spent several years of my childhood growing up in South America and there the footballing culture is totally different. There's so much more cheekiness in the latin game, Maradona was considered a hero for tricking the English and the Ref with his hand of god, especially considering that the UK had recently gone to war with Argentina without a great deal of justification. England was the enemy and Diego had just outwitted him!
When I first started playing here I found that big thuggish center backs would often shove me off the ball (I was a slow and small but occasionally tricky no10 playmaker, think Riquelme but without the skills), especially if I managed to make them look foolish a couple of times. This is the natural order of the game, and one of the weapons in my arsenal was to go down a little harder and pick up a freekick because if I tried to stay on my feet I would still lose the ball and I lacked the strength to protect it (if I wasn't able to skin the guy first of course). Therefore diving was a valuable part of my repertoire provided I couldn't get past the guy first using skill. My attitude was basically: if the ref isn't going to protect me then I need to take matters into my own hands.
Likewise, if I could get a couple pointy elbows into the CB's ribcage without the ref knowing then it was well worth it as well. He'd probably get angry, try and nail me and I'd just shimmy out of his path and be clean through on goal, whose laughing now sucker!
Now I'd never elbow somebody in the face or do anything that might genuinely endager another player (can't say the same thing for those thuggish CB's) and actions like Rivaldo's against Turkey in 02 are going a little too far but what Seo did to El**ch was more or less okay in my book. Sure I didn't like it because it got my team a red card but El**ch did go for him with the elbow to a certain extent. Fair play to Seo for tricking the ref into sending him off.
Gao against Melbourne is a good example of what I'm talking about. Their fullbacks were kicking lumps out of him and the ref didn't give two sh*ts! How the hell else is he going to get a foul out of him? As much as we like to be macho I prefer to see a game where skill and trickery is rewarded, and if center backs weren't such thugs it would be easier to get past them, therefore the game would be more enjoyable to watch and there would be no need to dive.

yeah i'm beginning to think like this - diving sucks, but the a-league is just too physical, if you don't milk it at all, you generally get nothing. Lots of times last night the ref was going to let stuff go until about 10 seconds later when players complained. Sure he was pretty consistent, but it's not good for the spectacle if attackers can't do their thing
I like tautologies because I like them.

NO one likes to see diving and rolling around as if one is mortally wounded, Even Daniel copped some flack in his early games for the same thing. We want to see football, not theatrics. If we wanted to see theatrics we'd go to a play.
Sure the game can be a hard fought even physical encounter without dropping down to the level of that Seo performance. I thought the A League made the decision to crack down hard on diving etc??

The fact that they're easily the dirtiest team in the league and the Seo is the biggest diver since Greg Louganis just makes it easier.

Diving is one thing, simulating being elbowed in order to get the opposition reduced to 10 men is disgraceful and any offender should be banned for the season. Seo should be booed and harassed, regardless of who he got sent off.

Unfortunately diving is now part of the game, it is well proven to give teams an advantage through relieving pressure when on defence or resulting in spot kicks or pens.
I hate the professional game because of it, and it is my opinion that it is because it is a professional game, any advantage is taken, hence more diving. Anyone see the italian feint an injury to the ribs in the belgium game?
Leilei is not a saint when it comes to diving either, pummeled or not, some of his hollywooding on more dubious tackles was attrocious in the cup final.

ok perhaps a bad choice of words on my part! I was trying to give an Argentine perspective on the Falklands conflict. Just bear in mind that in Argentina the Falklands conflict began because Argentina was attempting to re-occupy what it considered to be its own territory.I'd say the Falklands are a pretty long way from what I would call British soil! From your comment you'd think that Argentina invaded wales or something

Just wanted to give my opinion on this matter.
Seo did something wrong in the last season and he was booed for that. I can understand that. He got his punishment for his action. But I can't understand that some people make racist remarks and make fun of his name. This is very sad and really does make me ashamed to be a Phoenix supporter. It is disgraceful and very worrying.
Diving has now become a part in world football and many players do it. Have a look at Daniel for example. So it also includes our team, the Phoenix. And there is no difference between diving or simulating to be hit by an elbow. Both are cheating.
I didn't boo Seo because I I think we should get over it. We boo him because he got El**ch sent off? Maybe it seems that El**ch is still a very popular player. It is ridiculous to boo Seo just because it is funny. What would we think if other teams in the league would constantly boo Daniel just because he did a dive?
