Likely way too expensive. Still with Brentford in the EPL.
Same Evans.

Wootton was down in League One before coming to the Nix, and had been in L1 about 5 seasons.

Steven Taylor was with The Posh in L1 before joining the Phoenix, and that's back in the day when the APL/FA disbursement was alot more than now.

maybe wootton asked for a 3 year deal in negotiations, i.e. perth gave me 2, can you better that?

On the A league website an article states that Wooten’s contract is 2 years with Perth and not 3, which was the reason Gill said why they lost him

So potentially more false news

Might be 2 + 1 or Gilly’s gossip grapevine was wrong…
Given that I can think of at least a couple of times when watching and I'd thought Scott Wootton had announced his retirement mid-game (Western United 4-1 loss away being one that stands out), I, for one, am pleased we haven't signed up for a multi-year deal for him.

Barbarouses and Sutton stings a little, but Wootton I'm totally at peace with him leaving. 1 + 1 would be the only deal that made sense.

Gets me how people jump straight to its more false news from the Phoenix. How about maybe they understood it to be a 3yr offer. Im glad they didnt offer him a multi year contract.
As for Sutton has been obvious since January he has switched off and it could be also argued apart from his goals Kostas input had dropped off.
Oh yeah and yep im happy to speak up in the Nixs defence buggar all any body else does.

Also played with David Ball (& Kieran Trippier) in Man City's 2008 FA Youth Cup winning team, as captain.
Not a shark show in hell he would move out here though. Just an interesting fact.

Wootton was struggling in L2 before coming here. He was basically washed up in England until the Nix saved him.

He had one season in L2, starting 34 of Plymouth's 46 league games in a season they got promoted.

Then followed that with a couple more campaigns in L1.

But yes agree Nix shouldn't have offered him anything more than a 1 + 1. If Perth have offered him a 3 year deal, then don't blame him at all taking that.

The contract publicly announced is 2 years with Perth, not 3 as stated by Gill.

Let’s not let the Gill/Dome combo control the narrative “without a word of a lie”

Obviously Sam’s wages can’t be disclosed so we don’t know if Gill was confused on that one as well

I doubt Gill or the Nix know exactly what contract or offers were made by Perth, all they'll really know is what Sutton and Wootton were negotiating for and what we were prepared to offer.

No idea about Sutton but it will be down to cash and game time, and like Ballane has said his performances had dropped mid season.
Wootten, I suspect, would have been offered a 1+1 deal from the Nix, with certain metrics to be met for the extension to be triggered by player or club. If Perth came in with good money and a solid 2 or 3 year deal then of course you'll take that offer a 1+1. At his age he has to be a more risk adverse than a younger kid looking to make his mark.

None of the losses are irreplaceable, we have younger LB's in squad and academy, same with CB's - goal scorers can be purchased.

So in reality, we've lost 2 players the wrong side of 34 and one whom had lost form pending a move to Perthnix. (Sail, Pennington, Wooten, Sutton).

Whilst it hurts to lose players we have come to appreciate, you consider, are they getting any younger or any better? I can't wait to see where Kosta goes with Sydney & Victory showed an interest. Probably end up at Perth. Or Brisbane.

We lost 8 players last year of which 7 were pretty damn good. This year, we've lost another 8 players, some whom were good. 16 players in 2 seasons, It's a miracle any club can recover, but it seems to be the norm in the A League. As youngsters try their luck in Europe mostly and others just move around.

It will be interesting on July 1st as to who is coming in.

that time period could have been the sticking point of the Nix's negotiations with Wootton, like he would have accepted the salary with a 3yr term but if it's 1+1 or 2 then maybe other factors in Perth's deal outweigh the Nix offer.

for me a 2 year deal is way better than a 1+1, it comes with no targets to meet, no other decisions to be made by the club or player for 24 months, obviously the money offered would be a factor.

So we have decent money in the wage budget for a decent CB, a #10 & a #9, but we only have 2 visa spots, unless we can get mutual with any of our contracted 3. So one of these may need to be a local.

Maybe Waine as the #9 could have worked but he's apparently not keen... how about getting Piscopo back for the #10? Only brought on with 2 minutes left in the final so may be keen to leave Victory for more game time. Had some really promising moments early in the season, but maybe hard to squeeze him and Arzani into the same team.

Has never been completely convincing but always has had his moments, maybe the extra experience he has picked up since he left Wellington and getting to be the focal point of the attack for us may bring out the best in him?

You can only enquire. And if you make it seem non-token they’ll believe you.

It’s gotta hurt someone like Just to work so hard and to see Rogerson come back and win accolades at home.

Sometimes players just want to come home for a bit, not always be the foreigner and recharge.

Eli just (lower case j) saw Rogerson dropped from the All Whites last week after bossing the A-League. Message is loud and clear, going to the A-League probably not a good idea for your All Whites chances

Edit: anyway, Just would be an ambitious signing and we are allergic to those. So not happening.

Do you think the word ambitious is synonymous with "good" ballane? If so I'd direct you to a dictionary.

Signing Kosta (for his first return, not the second), and maybe Taylor & Hooper (the first time, not when they came back from India) are the only signings we have ever made that could be labelled ambitious or statement signings.

What are  Kraev and Zawada? Or Old and Paulsen for that matter?
How’d Dome hurt A*%<^Phoenix? Took him out for a lobster dinner and never called him or something?

What would be an ‘ambitious’ signing? Juan Mata? Douglas Costa? Nani?

Auckland’s loss in the semifinal and their coaches reaction show the BS of a lot of the posters. If only they’d played to win! If only Auckland wasn’t such a defensive team! When did Gallegos or Hall last score a goal? What use is Pijnaker? Etc etc etc Probably all McFlynn’s fault.

Signings like Sakai are luck, asking and having the funds.

Edit: Davila and especially Hemed were preeeety farkn ambitious. Enough BS. Go sign your soul to a Manchester club if you want statement signings. And petty firings.

And the other thing in this league the best signings are hardly ever the reputation ones.

Fornaroli and Berisha? Verstraete? Even Broich seemed a bit washed and his record wasn’t much different to Steinnman.

The club has a history of ambition-Smeltz, Ifill, McKain, Durante, Burns, McGlinchey, Roly, Singh, Marco, Bertos, Ugarkovic (though he wasn’t great for us imo), Krishna (though we’d never have believed it at the time)…Pennington(I believe), Salas…

Gilly said they’d already been in touch with the boys overseas. We’re in for them .

Italiano has had good luck and then too much leniency, to go with his obvious nouse in some areas, but that’s because the top 8 or 10 teams aren’t separated by that much.

23/24 only 3 Al-Talay,Duncan,Salas
22/23 Kosta,Kraev,Zawada
21/22 Wooton,Pennington
20/21 Hemed
19/20 Sotirio,Devlin,Davila,Ball,Steinman,Piscopo,Hoopper

Not the full lists there were others and also some young players promoted. Not all them maybe considered good by some but also not as bad as painted by some.
Last season wasnt good but i dont think our recruitment has been as bad as some are trying to make out over the years.

Out of curiosity, did Duncan's contract run out at the end of last year? Did we not try to keep him, especially knowing that Paulsen was going off to Bournemouth?
I thought he was pretty effective for Victory this year.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

I think the narrative was that Chiefy was keen on hopefully finding a more 'like for like' Paulsen - ie a keeper good at playing out from the back. Not considered a Duncan strong point.

So Duncan took the offer from VUC, even though I think he knew at the time Langerak would be arriving before Christmas.

Agruably a mistake from Gill/Italiano, given how Oluwayemi (visa player) & Duncan went this season.
