While Fenton will never be one of the Nix all time greats, we know what he brings and we all know he bleeds yellow (we've just seen the proof of it too, ouch!).

Lolz - Commentator leading into H/T saying this is an exciting game of football.

I stick by my intensity claim from earlier, but am appeased somewhat because we're now in the lead. Definite pre season vibe about this game however. Hopefully a bit faster paced after the break perhaps?

it's only fair given how we are often robbed by sharkhouse refereeing (eg last match).  We should be on our way to our 15th result in a row.

Saw on twitter that Fenton has more a league games than the rest of the starting line up combined.
That's a young team.

Have to say these commentators are easier on the ear then what I've heard via Paramount so far.  That product is garbage.

He’s always guna be one of my favorite club players. He’s got a bit of the Siggie/Tim Brown quality. But while he’s not Davila, he has more than played his part in plenty of class moments. I’m hoping this is an iconic one and a cup run- I’m loving two Nix games in a week.

Someone said Mogg is looking poor - I actually think aside from the fact he can't do a throw in that he's been ok. All of their attacks have been down the other flank.

Need more out of Pennington and Prso - we are being dominated in the middle of the park.

So any of these non-starters pushing for a start? How far away is Sutton? Will we see any of the first team starters like Lewis subbed or we all in on the cup?

If we get this one over the line we'll get another go at it next week. 😉

Also I can’t see the squad on the official website. That just me? Want to know who Prso is. He’s playing right mid?

No Van Hattum is playing RM in the game despite the graphics. Prso playing up top on the left hand side.

Playing like an inverted winger, coming in when we are on attack, so Old can overlap.

Great start second half. Keep this intensity lads.

Never good enough to play for England

You know the commentators are bored when egg sandwiches are prime conversation pieces.

Hour gone. Still no real quality or spark in the game.

Happy we're leading, but would love to see a bit more intensity in our play.

If we manage to keep the result, do we field the same side against Avondale next Tuesday? Would like to see Sutton get some game time in his legs, but aside from that I think we've looked pretty comfortable.

Who was the mid that broke up that attack and then fed Waine the ball for that chance? Great work.

Eastbourne Football Club - we're  gonna take the Chatham Cup this year.

That's 2-0 if Western player doesn't make that block. Great ball by Sutton.

Whilst it's not been flash football by either side, having watched our shape closely, what is obvious to me is that we are very well drilled across the board. From first teamer's, right down to the squaddies/reserves. It's pleasing also that we've managed to keep them to long distance attempts. Very disciplined squad. Credit to Uffie for that.

However, that said, would still like to see more up the pointy end of the pitch. Hopefully we work that out over the next few weeks.

Stating the obvious but Old has fantastic potential. Very busy player.

Nice win that.. hard to make anything out of it as it was essentially reserves vs reserves.. Avondale will not be a walk in the park

Things to take from that game:
- Good tactical discipline, well drilled bunch who will fight for each other and make it hard for the opposition.
- A clean sheet, good reward for keeping the snakes to shooting from distance, can't recall any clear cut chances created by them either (if any at all).
- Waine 🚂 off the mark for the season. Will be a good confidence boost for the lad, especially after that penalty debacle against CCM.
- Extended squad run out. Good to see Fenton and Sutton get some minutes after injury layoffs.

I think that about wraps it up. No particular standouts for mine, and  pretty much in line with what I expected before kickoff - a scrappy affair between a couple of heavily rotated squads.

Take the win and move on to the Jets on Friday, and then another cup tie against Avondale next Tuesday.

Excellent first 90 minutes with Phoenix from Pennington. Extremely calm and Solid. Needs some match fitness to get his long passing back which was always outstanding in Italy.

I believe we actually have a chance at winning this.

Whilst some silverware would be noice, does winning the FFA Cup mean much. Name last 3 winners? Fact Western United also played a virtual 2nd XI says it all.

Real value of a couple of FFA ties for Nix, is playing the kids and squaddies. I'm sure Talay will do same next week against Avondale.

This is first season will be no Weenix playing concurrently in the Handy Prem. Previously having a Handy Prem side for the Nix was great. And considering this season more than any other, some of the Weenix kids are likely to get a taste of A League football, the loss of a summer 2nd team is a big negative.

If they win against Avondale, hopefully Talay plays the kids again against Melb City in quarters. Since the last, round of 16 fixture (Gold Coast Knights verus Melbourne Victory) is not until 22nd December, I presume that potential Melb City QF wouldn't be until sometime January next year. January always a hot toasty time of year in Aus, so will be managing the workload of the first team squad.

And yeah interesting that Van Hattum who has only just come into the squad, got a start ahead of Ott. But Ott is maybe more similar Waine, out & out striker??

Yep Van Hattum is more versatile. And I thought he looked good. I hope we see some more of him - looks to have a lot of potential.

I actually think it would he great for us to give the FFA cup a real crack at this season. Realistically that's the most likely silverware we have a chance of winning this season. And since we've never won anything... I'd be keen to see us try!

yeah, at the end of the day any silverware is better than none. Our chances of winning the league are pretty slim, so lets go for a comp that's a knock out tourney and give it our best shot - this year is realistically our best shot at it.

Queenslander 3x a year.

Surman in the CB role looked very good for his first hit out, and Mogg playing out of position I thought did well.

I was disappointed in Prso and Pennington personally. Considering they along with Lewis are all experienced pro's compared to WU midfield, we didn't dominate that area at all. Prso was missing most of the game and I think Pennington never asserted himself or was an option enough for Lewis etc who seemed a little frustrated with the lack of options.

Van Hattum looks like he wants to be aggresive and take players on, but maybe was caught out by the increase in intensity.

Old looked sharp - when involved in the game he's very busy and uses his body well to create space/shield against incoming attackers, but drifts out of games. Staying involved is work on IMO.

Not much attacking threat, but good discipline and commitment through out.
