Sorry, but poor game management from Mauragis in the lead up to that. Needed to just clatter the fudgeer and not let him get that far.

Poor Callan, don't know what he was thinking dragging a leg out behind him like that either...

Woeful defending.

Elliot had done enough to give Mauragis time to collect the ball, he didnt need to stick his leg out at all.

Neither blameless. Mauragis should've smashed Irankunda before he go up steam, Elliot was silly to stick out his leg when there were other defenders and the keeper still in the way.

Absolute tragedy if we can't at least get a goal out of this game. Areas where Chiefy needs to improve the team are blindingly obvious. Good luck to him - here's hoping for a constructive transfer window and off season

Well, in all our finals appearances - not once - have we seriously looked like winning it. So disappointing

this is our 8th appearance, we have won two. In recent history we have not looked like winning any.

The number of times we have looked ready to capitalize on some counter and players are running full pace but we turn and pass back is frustrating.

It's just a team of talented players that don't seem to know the play.

A tough shoulder to shoulder challenge. Yellow card.

Yea that's what I meant. Under UT

With a couple of decent mifielders who can string more than one pass together and just maybe find the strikers we actually might have a decent chance next season. Assuming whoever is in goal can manage the defensive group into some sort of order.

Well this team deserves to be judged by the last 6 or 7 games. In for second. Bottled it completely.

That is how you professionally foul.
(But jeez I wish it was a straight red for that shark. I have no idea why it is accepted in football)

a challenge made nowhere near the ball, and a clear line change into the attacker - clear yellow and necessary.

We seem to lack even the ability to knock good crosses in regularly. It's concerning really.

Gauci has completely outshone Sail tonight, managed his box really well and never looked worried by anything we've created.

yea that was as clear as a yellow gets.

If the ball hadn't gone in a different direction there may be an argument but he only had eyes for taking out the player.

That was when the coach said he was leaving along with a cpl of the players.

Have we had a shot on target? Like at all?
Edit - checked stats, we’ve had two.

Normal for an A league season outside Melbourne City. Key figures leave every year.

Is Gauci available next season? He's been epic tonight.

Well after that I don't care if Elliott stays. I thought the sky was the limit for him in the months before he left for Greece but I don't think he has reached that level again. He went so far backwards in his year in Greece. He can't defend. Hopefully we get two new fullbacks over the summer, Sutton has gone back this season too.

I don't know how you look at a game like that, and the last few, and then say uffie is a master coach. He is great at recruiting talent, no doubt. But do we even have a strategy for how we are going to attack and score goals. Because it certainly doesn't look like the players know the plan.

Our inability to control a ball ricocheting off Adelaide defenders has been a particular lowlight, all things considered.

Welp, it was fun while it lasted! See y'all in the transfer speculation thread

I feel we need a good clear out, especially some of the guys at the back. The lack of imagination is hard to watch. The midfield passes back to defenders the majority of the time, while the defenders often go back to the goalie. In both instances this is their default, regardless of whether there are options ahead. It’s just so bad to watch. The team has such talent but they do not work well together so often.

Come on now Goodwin scored against France at a WC iirc. At fault for two goals, but they attacked him relentlessly and he had no support from our attackers holding or scoring to relieve that pressure.

I know some people are going to say we had chances and looked quite good etc but really we were comfortably second best. To be honest the game was closer than I expected it to be. And now I'm sort of relieved the season's all over while I've still got some hair left.

They had a game plan and were able to execute it with out much hassle.
If we had one, it was difficult to see.

Sutton has gone back? He's been dealing with so much injury bollocks it's impossible to gauge where he's at this season. Same with Old tbh. Hopefully it doesn't impact their development too much

We are just not good enough just with the basics. Not winning the 2nd ball, passing the ball to the player and crosses not reaching any danger areas.
A night to forget for Elliot and Mauragis should have stopped the counter before the 2nd goal.
Well that was disappointing.  We didn't get pantsed but we didn't look dominant.

Having said that, the goal goes in just before half time and who knows what the second half looks like.

We just didn't look confident at all.

We've just not been threatening enough to open teams up, it's all just harmless stuff that teams have cottoned on to throughout this season - especially the back end of it. When we're in possession teams will happily let us play it around because we're either playing it across the back, playing flat low tempo footy, or playing it backwards. It's not breaking anything up, it's not making teams sweat especially through the middle because by way of a 4-2-2-2 formation we just simply don't have enough bodies to win any 2nd phase ball. When we get found out tactically, we have no backup plan or alternative formation to counter with - zilch, zip, f u c k all.

Just wish we had an effective #10 who will sit centrally and just pull all the strings and direct play through the lines as well as generating a lot more creative play. Can only hope next season we go to a 4-2-3-1 or even a 4-1-4-1 setup which I feel would give us more of a foothold in the middle of the park. I won't hold my breath. It's more just a hope to bloody Jesus that we move away from this 4-2-2-2 nonsense. Please!!?

Anyway, well played Adelaide. Far better team on the night, we barely fired a shot and we just didn't have the smarts to get ourselves a stake in the game. Still, I think CCM will batter ya's. See you red bastards next season.

Our game plan was to score first. When they did, we were in a tricky spot and one goal on the counter was enough.
