▪️ Josh Oluwayemi, Hideki Ishige, Kazuki Nagasawa and Nathan Walker all make their A-League Men debuts today
▪️ Alby Kelly-Heald, Corban Piper, Xuan Loke and Jayden Smith could also make their debuts today
Arrive early to avoid queues Phoenix fans!

Didn't expect that lineup to be honest, but time for a few of the boys to step up.
Hopefully Sutts is not a recent addition to the injury list.
Sutton always seems to be injured at season start. Is the off season not long enough for him

He played for NZ on Monday, so must be a very recent injury!
My guess would be:
Oluwayemi;
Sheridan, Wootton, Hughes;
Payne, Conchie, Rufer, Nagasawa;
Walker, Barbarouses, Ishige.

Pretty green line up. Who knows what to expect! Hope the young guns get stuck in. Fire up Nix!

Rollo says Ishige at LB in the official team sheet. Chief playing mind games?
I'll be remaining positive.
First real look at the imports, so naturally quite intrigued to see how they go under this new style of play that Chiefy is after.
Good chance to look at the next wave of young Kiwi players who need to make their mark too. Might be expecting a bit much if we're placing a whole lot of hope on Walker, but he's a game breaker and a clever/tricky player who did well in his debut over at South Melbourne. Hopefully he can continue to make an impression.
COYN!

Happy Game Day. I will be watching.
Spell our players names / nicknames right, and you will not see me for the rest of the season.

One hour build up for the NIx on sky!! Same as the new boys!!
Auckland will rise once more

I imagine Chiefy will now be happy to take any sort of ugly win.
Very disrupted pre season, and alot of players out today. You'd think Al-Taay would have started ahead of Conchie, if he hadn't had to travel so far after playing for Iraq.
Rufer is coming off 170 mins playing time with the AWs. Hopefully his legs still feel fresh.
Show of faith in Sheridan and Walker to start both of them.
Western U look limited, but with a far more settled new season buildup.

Line-up a bit different to what I was expecting, but Chiefy's the one watching these guys day in day out in training so I trust he knows what he's doing (also injuries will be playing their part in this line up too).
Excited to see how our imports settle in, particularly Oluwayemi in goal.
Not long now!

Seven kiwis in the starting line up, that’s good.

Big fan of it to be honest. Class.
No one knows what to expect with this line-up. Let's go!!!!
Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet
My eternal thanks to Metlink, cuz I'm gonna be late thanks to their shockingly useless public transport system.
What’s the significance of the red seat zone at the stadium?

Keep forgetting Western Utd picked up Hiroshi Ibusuki this off season - he will be a bit of a handful for our defence today
Spell players' names right - or else.

Do you think Wootten is level headed enough to coach the young lads through with the inexperience of Sheriton and Huews on either side of him?

Shame about the crowd. It's a mint day.
We have 6-7k rusted on fans. Nothing to draw the bandwagon fans in today. Hopefully they turn up for the Derby.
Seeing our strip worn by all the players it actually looks quite OK. I like the black borders on the shorts and stripe along the side of the kit. Had the pinstripes been made to be more visible it would have been one of my top Nix kits
Decent corners from Ishige from both sides. And that was a lovely chest down for Kosta to shoot.

I'd have thought the AFC debut win, us coming second and a cracking day weather-wise and first game of the season would have brought in a great crowd.

Yea I'd expected at least 12k, especially after last season. What can you do...
Not a fan of the stripe-less strip.

Good turn, run and pace from Walker down the left hand flank a couple of minutes ago.
Come on lads!
Come on lads!
Calling 0-0 here.
Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Bet a lot of people didnt even realise the season had started back up again
Come on, that's got to be yellow. First time a Nix player does the same it will be no doubt.

I'd have thought all the hype of them would have helped us.
