Good news is that all train lines are running so no bus replacements on game day.
I can only wonder how much bigger some of our home crows would have been if those train lines were on all last season...
To easy to blame the train lines not as if there wernt replacements of some sort. Yes not ideal but just think at times we are to quick to give excuses why crowds arnt what we expect. Sadly over the years things have seemed to conspire against us in that we have a big game and the weather turns to shyte or the timing is wrong (late game on a Sunday nite). Is what it is think it would be great if we could lift that base crowd up from the 5 or 6k. On the back of last season you would hope we get a few more regular attendees
A lot of Wellingtonians have lost their jobs or don’t have the feeling of job security. People just can’t afford to take themselves and their families to the games.
"It will be hosted in Wellington. My balls my word"
Even if you're on a good wage, >$40 is a lot of money.
Gameday ticket prices are around $25ish are they not? + all the extra fees that get charged it will go close to the $40 mark. Club aint gonna want to lose more money by subsidising casual fans.

Adult Silver Tickets are $30 if you pre-purchase + $0.66 processing fee for one ticket. No booking fees or delivery fees with EzyTickets or Mobile Tickets.
Yes some of you are correct there are ways people can get cheaper tickets. But its also a fact that some dont make the decision till late to attend a game. Walk up prices are horrific and that along with parking and food and drink make it an expensive day out for some which in these times i think some are choosing not to make. Yeah i know you dont have to buy food but come on how many of you when you take your kids out refuse them some treats. Given we are only a couple of weeks out from the first game im very disappointed at the apparent lack of promotion of the Phoenix and the game. You would think they should be all over the place trying to build on last season get them early and they might come back. But sadly seems no.

Meh. People don’t want to go to a game, they won’t go. They want to go they will. All this talk of ‘ they should drop ticket prices to x…’ is bollocks. If tickets were $10 some people would be saying they should be $5. No one has to pay for parking, take public transport. No one has to buy food. Bring your own if you can’t go 2 hours without eating or drinking. If you want it a little cheaper, buy it the day before. No point crying that walk up price is more, you have options. Worried about the weather? Look at a weather map FFS. Too much whining.
I’m no better off than anyone else and it costs me around $200 minimum if I go to a home game. Shaving a couple of dollars off ticket price won’t be the difference whether I go or not. But if I go, I don’t cry about the cost of it. And I don’t even like football any more.

TV signage on the stadium concourse advertising the game to day. Every year a few of you complain about walk up prices being to blame for low crowds - sure, they may be a small factor, but lets get real, for the sake of an extra $10 extra (that season pass holders) you're the ones choosing at the last minute to turn up. The club/league set their price point per game, as said above silver tickets are $30. The stadium's ticketing agency add their service fees for the fact they are paying someone to be there for you. Who do you want to give you the discount? What price would you be happy to pay?
Why should you get discount - it's not like you're showing any loyalty or any ongoing guaranteed attendance.

Foundation member here who buys his season pass every year and for good measure also buys a Woman's membership and has missed two games since our first. Dont think i have ever had my loyalty to the Phoenix questioned before. Wow a sign on the stadium thats bound to bring in the punters. Yep every year i comment on the prices because i have spoken to people about attending and why they dont. Despite what some may say the weather and costs does affect if people attend. Despite what you may think people make late decisions to attend games for what ever reason and i just think its crazy they are slugged a premium price to get a ticket to a game thats no where near sold out. Yep i have commented on it before and will comment on it again unless the forum rules change. Have to laugh people moaning about people commenting about prices while every home game there are a heap of people who attend for no cost at all on the back of freebies. Then you get the club its self doing cheaper promotions ie $10 tickets but god forbid anyone suggest prices should be cheaper. Never ceases to amaze me people complaining about others commenting about something on a forum always thought that was one of the ideas behind them.
Let me explain - as to why pointless complaining annoys me - I try to be solution focussed and will try to only complain if I can see a better way! Many of the complaints about gameday costs are the walk up tickets, usually in comparison to members pay - as I member I pay hundreds for myself and my son to attend all games at the stadium - the club gives me a smallish discount compared to a walk-up person. If said walk up person got to purchase a ticket at the same price a member was paying I'd be annoyed as it takes away a benefit o being a member.
So, I ask again, if $30+stadium fees is too high for a walk up person, what price point do you think would be acceptable? And who do you think should foot the bill for this reduction in cost? (club, ticketing agent or stadium?)
Also, @Ballane, never questioning your personal loyalty, the 'you' reference is to those walk up fans - that to be fair probs arent posting on the forum.
Are we expecting a good crowd for the first game??
I hope so, off season is so long that we’ll have lost some of the momentum from last year, but I’m hopeful for 10k+
I'm hopefully being pessimistic, but I'm expecting the word has got around that we've lost all our pre-season games v A League sides, without scoring a goal.
I'm allowing our core 4k plus another 2k because of the novelty of the new season. If it's a nice day maybe 7k. If they do a late kids free type promotion, 8k.
I'm also hopeful we can suprise everyone and belt these guys 3-0.

Besides us, I highly doubt anyone is talking about the team's preseason games.

Agreed, most casual fans don’t even know whether it’s the off season.

Lets hope its a fine day because you would hope 10k turn up given how the lads performed last season. As an aside gonna be buggar this season having people constantly compare our crowds with the Jafas you just know its gonna happen.

I agree it will be tiresome. They have the novelty factor on their side this season. Depending on their results it could be very good or very bad.
I'm coming up with some mates for the game (well actually Coastal Spirit vs Phoenix Reserves on the Satdy) and we've made a wknd of it. I'm ok cheering for the Reserves to lose and the first team to win. :-)
Run me through the pre-match festivities? Used to be the Backbencher but may have changed?

It's expensive to the casual fan. That's the point. The die-hards (us), will go every week regardless.
But I know lots of people that sort of like football, or like the atmosphere and would go more often, but can't justify the cost every week. Which is fair enough, you can't shame people for that.
An alternative, which has been harped on about for years, would be to have a 12k rectangular stadium. The core fans would fill up a lot of it most weeks, you'd have a scarcity element so I think attendance would be higher in general, and the atmosphere would be way better.
But not a huge deal. I will still continue to go week-in, week-out.
Not long until the season kicks off. The excitement is building. For those of us who live overseas does anyone know if the ALeague YouTube channel will be happening. If the answer is yes, I will have to get up at 4a.m to watch…..sigh!

Yeah mate, pretty sure a VPN and YouTube is still the go. 4am kickoffs are gonna be hell, but at least the further into the season we get a few more civilised times
I look forward to seeing our freshly minted new (kinda new) squad turn out on the 20th. There might be some wobbles as it always takes a while for a blended team to gel and develop understanding, but it is the same problem for the opposition. How stable is Western United squad since the end of their last season? Did they gain or lost any key players in the off-season?
Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
