Guys who just started watching last season- we’ve been much much worse. Just need another goal scorer and two or three creative players! Someone more ready to play than a 16 year old.

Save for our goalkeeper, this could have been so much worse.

It’s what I’d expect. He didn’t do anything amazing, but again another solid performance.

City have just drawn 1-1 away  in Gosford, where we won 3-0 - Do we dare to believe we can possibly escape the graveyard that is AAMI Park with a point or 3?

Or is it once again just wishful thinking?
Wishful thinking mate! “Everywhere they gooooo”

22 losses at AAMI Park hahaha

Love you Phoenix, a laugh a minute 😂

Wow, no shots in the entire game!
Well done, thats completely embarrassing.

I have to say Im concerned about the whole coaching/academy/stats science thats built up over recent years - they are crushing diversity, inviduality and surprise, and producing one dimensional robots. its self sustaining for them of course, but the end product is garbage.

Agree on those two most likey ex Nix fans as well.  Guess blue goo plastics got to stick together.

I'll still go to the Adelaide game but expecting another defeat.

Don't think I'm even going to bother with the Adelaide game next Saturday, just keep an eye on the other top 5 teams and hope they will pile on as much pressure as possible on AFC, plus watch and see whether the Glory can actually get something against AFC, highly doubt it but you never know. Fudge those tw*ts in AFC jerseys in amongst the City fans as well.

Finally, can the forum stop breaking for one fudgeing minute?!

I’m not listening to any post match explanations by Italiano, he lost me.

I hoped for a bit of progress, but 1 shot by the 16y old after a solo run is a sad affair.

Just wait until you start losing mate, that Mt Smart stadium will empty out mighty quick. The vast majority of your fans are plastic compared to this lot on here

I think having a go an the academy is a little off - one bad season does not negate the good work they have done.

Glad we have not signed Chief to a new contract yet... time for us to renegotiate it from a position of power, compared to where he was at 6 months ago.

Retre is a passenger in the middle, just sits deep and does nothing. He only passes the ball backwards - he needs to go along with our current system.

LBS's shot did count, it was Payne who was offside from the rebound

According to Payne the game plan is to sit back, absorb pressure, and try hit on the counter.

Basically we are being set up to play the most boring, defensive, uninspiring style of football and hoping to get lucky on the counter. This is the style of football that has been drilled in to the players all season, so unless something drastic happens, we are going to have to get used to this nonsense for the rest of the season.

You would be hard pressed (stat wise to visually) to find a worse performance by a NZ team in the A League.

I can't recall the Knights of KINGZ ever been that bad - 2 touches in the opposition box in 90 minutes. Appalling!!

I get that's it's a transitional year and that we aren't likely to get much out of this season (though I don't really buy it given it's a salary capped league with a salary floor). I get that we're playing young players because the club wants to be able to sell them for profit.

How does this dross help us sell players? How does the crap served up there help us develop those players into players that any club would be interested in? If anything all this style, or lack thereof, does is destroy confidence and lowers transfer values.

I think there need to be some serious questions as to whether or not Chiefy is someone we want to take this team foward over the next few years. Does anyone want to see that same kind of crap served up for another season after this? Because that is exactly what will happen.

How does that sort of performance help the club going foward? Will it bring in fans? Will it make money?

Am I going to be the one to say it?

Not quite yet, but patience is wearing awfully bloody thin. That was about as grim as they come

The forum being down for me most of the night has scuppered my attempts to get across how I've really felt, but now I'm just too drained to even bother.

Good night to everyone on here who had to suffer through that. Time to drown my sorrows and suppress the wholehearted rage I feel after witnessing that.

It can be a highly effective system when done well. Some great teams around the globe have used it to win comps. However, it seems we don't have the players to execute it this year. The sooner Chiefy realizes this and adapts the better.

I was last week at the stadium surrounded by some very motivated fans that where ready for party, they lost pretty much interest after 30min. All their south American fun was sucked out of them. Sadly they where gone after the HT break. Maybe they moved into the shade my guess the momentum on our side was not enough to keep them interested.

Despite the fact I will likely sit out the Adelaide match, I am by no means giving up on this team, as someone mentioned above, 'we have been much much worse.'

It is unfortunately looking more and more unlikely that we will finish in the top four, but we can still well and truly finish in the top six.

The opening of the January window can't come soon enough and hopefully the arrival of any reinforcements will help influence a change in the approach we take going forward for the rest of the season.

Plus maybe, just maybe, the likelihood of Chiefy being open to bringing Bally back is increasing, especially after this game.

Imagine the scenes if Chiefy has to concede by giving Bally some game time and he bangs in a couple 😅

If that is bottom we’re okay. We just need to add some good players and recognise that doing more with less is generally bullshark and that replacing 4 players who can play in top ten level leagues is tough.

And Pennington was underrated.

Isn’t passing backwards part of our system.? I think it shows a lack of attacking intent when the backpass is the default player setting.

  • A quality and solid CB
  • Scrap the 5-3-2 formation and shift to 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1
  • Some height up front
  • X-factor players
Bring in this, and we won't look far too off.

Between this and the Wanderers game I can't say I'm particularly enjoying bar watching.

The only players I think deserve some praise is Oluwayemi and Brook-Smith. Josh stopped a fair number of shots and Brook-Smith was the only positive player this game.

I understand it's not easy trying to rebuild after losing half your starting line-up but for the love of God Chief needs to try something different. What we're doing right now clearly isn't working yet we keep doing it.

And nothing sums up how we play better then when we had a throw-in in City's third and we passed it all the way to our backline

I thought AFC did well to beat the muppets twice. Turns out there’s no shock factor there. Absolutely can’t wait to do the 3 peat over you lot 😂. At least you might finish above Perth hahaha

Thin squad, transition year after the guys being sold on the last two years, recruitment less than hoped for and, on top of that, a bad year for injuries.  That doesn't lead to a pretty season.

That said, I genuinely thought that with one more good player in (Rojas) we might have clicked. Now, with one more out ( Rufer) we're really struggling.

I know you're fishing here, but I'll entertain it.

Yes, you probably will beat us 3 times.

You are better coached, set up better tactically, and probably have better players on aggregate.

And no I'm not an Auckland fan, and yes I will always be a Phoenix fan. Doesn't mean we won't be better than you in the future, but under our current set up I can't see it happening.

I think we can beat you if we drastically change our tactics and approach, i.e., as mentioned above scrapping the 5 at the back system and being so negative and defensive.

Yes, it's called hardship, we've experienced hardship, struggles, and tough periods that your perfect little rich kid club will likely not even come close to experiencing in their lifetime.

See if you can be any more juvenile.  If you're not younger than 12 then you're certainly behaving like it.

To be fair, Auckland clubs have experienced plenty of hardship. However, they've never survived. The odds are not in their favor once the hard times come.

I hate U shaped football. Hughes and Sheridan are doing ok, and look like good prospects, but they will always either pass back or out wide. No central passes into midfield.  Maybe harsh, but there inexperience and not wanting to make a mistake, makes our play so predictable. Can you really blame our midfield if they are not presented the ball.
Utterly uninspiring to watch.
