I wonder if James is either pissed he’s been pushed wide for Bill and it’s playing on his head or he’s still living in last weeks penalty miss? Or could be none of those and he’s having a terrible off game

Suspect they've told him they won't extend his contract.

Bugger. Really liked him. Had the potential to be a real Phoenix icon.

Think he’s been good in the main before today.

He's been well below his best for a few weeks now. And some weaknesses in his game are becoming really obvious, eg, very slow to recover and generally poor distribution forward.

That’s when we bring Piper and Sheridan on.

I’d love to know where Payne and Bill come in the beep test.

We were playing fun stuff with energy and the high line. Now we’re playing pass it around at the back. Names don’t win games performances do.

Armiento, Eze, Piper…get these boys the ball in the attacking third and we’ll score goals.

yes it was - but I would keep in mind it wasnt a foul denying a brilliant chance we manufactured or anything. If he hadnt left his leg dangling there the ball was already gone anyway. Would have been a lucky break for us rather than a well earned goal

Just another week of our defense showing little professionalism or desperation to get a clean sheet across the course of 90 minutes. They just never appear as though they really, really want it, or that they feel their professional pride is on the line, other than that one game in Brisbane.

Yeah you're right Bullion, not right for my comment to implicate Hughes in that way, and to be fair Armiento rarely puts a foot wrong either, but I think the sentiment applies to the rest of the defenders we have played this season

Yeah seems james isn’t at the races for one reason or another. I didn’t think he was very good last week either, given he’d set relatively high standards it’s noticeable when there’s a drop.

All their goals were avoidable. So frustrating, and in fairness, must be frustrating for the welnix group given they have definitely invested in this team. It’s just not happening.

I'd like us to go to a back 4, with Hughes and Bill in the middle. James can come on to close out games...kinda like a reverse Piper.

And being negative can often be self protection.

My team’s terrible, we never win anything, we’re gunna lose etc etc is an emotional tactic which protects you a bit against things like today, but still pays off if they win.

I agree with the comments that the defence was sluggish. Not trying to play out the ball and just aimlessly clearing the ball out to the opposition means our headspace (in defence) is not right.  James had an off game. Hughes had a great game despite us losing. by now I think LKH is almost as good as James in a CB position (or will be better in another year or two).

The highs and lows of being a Nix fan, eh.

We seemed to have no urgency in the second half constant passing round the back is exhausting and painful to watch.  Where is that team that took it to Adelaide last year?

Thought Hughes was outstanding.  Armientos goal was beautiful. Eze ran his socks off.

If only our men could defend like our women.

Could a journalist ask how far away Edwards and Walker are?

Boy do I have egg on my face. Chiefy says Sarpreet raring to go, plenty of loading in his legs and will be fast-tracked into the side.

Also says Rufer will be fine for next week.

We are really missing Griffith, our defending coach from last season. Because we suck big time at defending. We suck playing the high line and we suck playing deeper with the "names".
James and Billy T were all out of shape for the second goal and our keeper has made two errors costing two goals in two games.
Can we bring back the high line? That was lots of fun. If we are not making top 6 lets do it in an entertaining way.
The Victory played a smart game with three players pressing our back three. It completely blocked our passing. They also outclassed us in midfield.
Big shout out for Eze....what an engine that guy has, never gives up. He got almost zero support up top

I learnt a new referee expression today. The penalty shout was ruled out because it was " normal football contact"
WHAT? A defender sticks a leg out and makes contact. Its a foul anywhere on the field. If its outside the box its a free kick, inside its a penalty.
A League referees..????????

Anyone who worries about LBS gametime is a little odd to me - he clearly has a long way to go. Great raw talent, but even Irankunda didn't start games for that reason. He's perfect for 30 mins off the bench and for these guys to progress, they need to be surrounded by more experienced players and not feel the entire weight of the team is on their shoulders.

normal football contact NFC) is used a lot these days, hear it almost every game in the EPL - just not for contact where the defender has obstructed the attacker - which with or without contact is a foul!
NFC is when two players come together and neither has committed a foul - both going for a loose ball and the collde - play on no foul. But obstucting a player is a foul outside the pen box al day long.

The X up top is Eze.  The 4 Xs in the middle are our wingbacks, Nagasawa and Retre or Sander. You get to place Najarine and the other of Retre and Sander to find a way through Victory.

You have 90 minutes.

Winning entries to coach the Phoenix men.

As for all the doom and gloom - sure yesterday wasnt great, but we were don over by a shocking overturned pen call and head dropped, prior to that call we were right in it.
AKH clearly could have been stronger on their conrer goal, and their second was again down to poor defending, so was their third.
Could we have done better?
McCarron was only ever going to play a few games, think Italiano said that his age was a factor in this, which is why you'll probably find AKH on the bench as soon as Josh is ready to return.
We should have had the draw and maybe we wouldnt be happy with that but a point is a point.

As the table stands we are 4 points behind Victory in 5th, and 8 points behind 1st. The scary part is that WSW and CCM are only 3/4 points behind - thats how close the table is. 12 points separate the entire league, all it would take would be a few injuries for AFC and the Jets and the fall down fast. We have 10 games to go - 30 points there for the taking. Win them all and we win the league. Get 19-21 of those and we are well in the mix come end of season.

Outrageous VAR intervention.

Crusading. Someone should lose their job over it.

It’s been great to watch some teams play football and the refs keep the f- out it this season. It feels like we’ve had few games where it was about the referees. That’s been good.

But this was certainly a flashback decision to the bad old days.

I don’t feel we were robbed of the result, but we were robbed of how the game would played out if the pen had gone ahead.

It’s a pity if James’ contract has not been renewed and that’s affected him. I really liked him, especially when he was playing confidently.

I really don’t want to see us play 3 at the back. It might be the only way LKH starts next season, and I think he’s got plenty of potential. Great pass, and I think Armiento was onside too.

However, just the ponderous build up and the lack of movement gave me the sharks.

Nothing wrong with a bit of hoof ball, especially if we’ve got Eze and Piper or Mileusnic up, but let’s zing the ball around and have some energy.

I admit I missed Sheridan and other guys who run and carry the ball. James can, but was in a rut. Hughes can, but maybe he needs to be the central anchor not Bill? He’s got much more Nix DNA at this point.

If next year is LCB………CCB……….LCB………DM……CCB……RCB……RB…..CM…..CCB…..
I’ll have to watch on notifications.

I’ve enjoyed when we’ve played this season, but hopefully Sarpreet injects the urgency and keeps Armiento involved. Integrating players we’ve become a bit of a mess.

And again, some hoof ball is fine, as part of a mix of attacking weapons, but not as a we’ve done nothing for 3 minutes boot it long type strategy!

Let’s get the f into the top 6.  Attack, attack attack, coherently and victoriously! Enough floating around at the bottom of the table.

Totally agree. What it means is that margin of error for a team (or a coach) has become slim, much like a driver error on a bend when driving super fast.
Conversely, teams that can build up good consistency of several wins in a row will be guaranteed a run in the finals.
Should WelNix have let Chiefy go and retained Adam Griffiths? I like what he has done with Perth so far.

My thinking has had no bearing on the clubs performances, besides I'm pretty sure every club sitting anywhere on the table is always looking at the permeatations to getting further up the table.
I'd guarantee you the owners of anyone of the EPL teams sitting 6th - 20th are working out how many wins/losses it will take to get out of relegation or into a europe competition.
