I think EZE will be the key player for us with his runs at speed and the difficulty of dispossessing him. He is a much better allround player than Cosgrove and a few of my AFC supporting mates would be happy to swop the pair tomorrow.
I feel strange defending Cosgrove, but the VAR also let a clear stamp on his hand go earlier this season by a Melbourne City defender. It was clearly intentional.
I hope we out play them. The Jets and others have shown how much better football can be than simply clogging the midfield and scoring from corners. I do worry that May will be like a shark. And Woud might actually be the best keeper currently on display between the two teams.
It’s well overdue for our run to start. It’d be great for it to start with the derby.

If I recall, the only time May scored this season was in a derby against us. Other than that, he had an amazing bad luck with hitting the woodwork, or spraying his shots high / wide (even last night against the Smurfs). Randall and Brook will be the real danger though. Provided we put in a solid defensive shift and do not fall asleep in our own box, we should have a more even derby game than ever before.

There is no one likeable in their team. Elliott, May and Woud have openly displayed their dislike for us. Becker is a knob who makes disparaging comments about our city, if he has checked baggage perhaps it will get lost. Darth Corica is another knob. I won't even get started about their owner and his affiliations.
Codgrove not playing probably won't make a difference, they have plenty of fire power.

lol what could May and Woud even have to dislike us 😭
Also can't you add Sail to the list? (or is that just him to the nix fans)Procrastinixing

I have seen a couple of May interviews and he has come across as a likeable guy. Woud was a tosser in the Unused subs interview. Mr Floppy Codgrove was public enemy no 1 for me. I have no idea how this game will go but I know one thing.....if we dont tighten up our defense then we could be on the end of a thrashing. AFC lead the AL on missed chances. So them playing the team with the ALs worse defense could be the game where everything goes in.

Jason Pine recently made the comment more than once on his show that Woud is an unusual character

Can’t remember May having any beef?
Apart from being likeable (which he is according to second hand reports I got from Uruguayan acquaintances in Auckland), May is a foreign professional, here today and gone tomorrow (or the day after tomorrow). Has no past history here and no reason to "like" or "dislike" another ALM club. It is a job, much like it is for Eze or James or Verstraete.

Look lads and laddesses of the Fever. I understand the refs. It’s clear that they don’t want to give us a penalty because we’d only waste it, like we did against City. That’s considerate officiating.
So there’s nothing for it. We just have to beat this lot good and proper in regulation time. We’re allowed to use deflections, but nothing that might cause officials stress like a defender’s hand or anything of the sort. Maintain your feet and your wits at all times, avoid the normal footballing collisions and bang it in the back of the net please, the Nix!
Nothing would give me greater pleasure than being 4 goals up with ten to go and swinging my shirt around our living room for ten minutes. It might even be life saving exercise, especially as it would avoid the shocks and heartaches of the past few weeks.
It also saves us the dull spectacle of two referees arguing for ten minutes about who’s got the remote.
It’s time. Let’s smash this home. Come on Phoenix!

Nah, de Vries and Pijnaker are both really good blokes.
As a few have said, other than a few of the players like Cosgrove, the main villains are without doubt Corica, Becker, MAGA Foley, and the Port IMO

Oh yeah, watch the episode that features him on the AFC Doco, strange cat all right...
"You can never get a bloody tradesman at Easter, it's a wonder Jesus got crucified" - Karl Pilkington
I have sat with them every time we have played up there and not had anything said to me or done that I thought was inappropriate. Them taking their shirts off at 80mins etc when leading was classic sharkhousery IMO. I'm always in yellow, cheering on our lads.
They chant (although nothing particularly clever about what they have) and they celebrate passionately when their team scores.
Considering how long they have been around, they have good numbers, plenty of merch and active followers as seen by how many travel to Welly etc.
They add to the richness of the Derby.
And ultimately, being a Port or Nix fan doesn't make someone a dick. They were already one - they just chose to wear a team/club shirt the day they decided to remind the world.
Danny Hay also fits in the villain category. He’s never been a great Nix fan
I dunno. Danny always makes me laugh. I don’t know that much about him outside the tele or papers, but I feel like with him it’s almost like he doesn’t really like anyone! Defo reminds me of a couple of mad CBs I played with. And he liked to play up front a bit too if he could. And there’s that story about him leaving AW team members at an airport somewhere..?
It’s more like he’s a mad scientist.
Whereas as Corica and McFlynn were blue bloods for that unlikeable Sydney team. And Corica loves a whine.
But very happy to say, with everything happening at the Nix, it’s easier to focus on us and what we might do. I really hope we haven’t cut James from next season’s reckoning yet. For me he was one of the keystones that unlocked this squad’s potential. I like his presence as a defender. Going into the season with 3 senior CBs would be great. LKH has to bide his time and train well. Ditto Sheridan.
Also enjoyed a bit of midweek football. It’s a nice rhythm never being more than a couple of days from a game.
Tuiloma knows much of the Auckland squad well, having played internationally alongside Nando Pijnaker, Logan Rogerson, Callan Elliot, Michael Woud, Jesse Randall and Cam Howieson.
He was also a teammate of Auckland captain Hiroki Sakai during their time at Marseille.
unfortunately, he has made of glass & his career record of injuries reflect that, and im sure club knew the risks.. A shame his return only lasted just over 45 minutes :(Half a Pint
Injury setbacks.
Sarpreet Singh and Lara Wall will both be sidelined for up eight weeks.
Singh injured the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his left knee, while Wall has torn her left calf.
All Whites fullback Tim Payne has also been ruled out of Saturday’s derby against… pic.twitter.com/ZdtianzxIL
We endured 1152 minutes of Ryan Lowry, training out of Newtown Park and Martin Luckie with no injuries, and yet NZCIS Sapreet is gone after 55 mins
Rojas, Cola, Chico Geraldes and now Singh.
Nix have just had no luck at all the last 1-2 years when bringing in creative midfielders/wingers. Two of them, themselves mid season signings (Chico & Sarpreet).
