Okay genuine question even if it is unlikely is it still mathematical possible to get into 6 even if results stays like this ect?
Thank you (this is just for something I'm working on)
If we beat WSW and Macarthur and City lose both their next games then we could still do it.
So not impossible, but…

Argh. Oh well.
What a dislikeable bunch of floppers. How someone catches up with them and brings them the karma they’re due.
Couldn’t create enough eh.

Welp can't complain from here about missing out on the final 6 from here. We had plenty of chances and didnt take them. Only got ourselves to blame.
Hope it's a dominant win against WSW in Christchufch next weekend.

Yeah that draw against City earlier in the season is a really damming one. Was up 2-0 and 2 mistakes in 5 minutes cost us the three points.

You compare the two teams and it's probably only Rufer, Eze that gets anywhere near City's starting lineup. We really do need to get some more quality in the squad next season.

Considering next season will be our 20th, I think it should be mandatory now that the club invests in the strongest possible men's squad. They seriously need to make up for the shark they have given us fans over these two seasons.

Edwards involved in both goals. Beaten very easily by both Younis and Atkinson in the leadup to the first, and failed to mark Younis or block the through ball for the second. Beaten most times, ineffective on defense and clueless going forward tonight, just backpass after backpass.
Sorry to say he's simply not at A league standard.
LKH again looked miles better.

We were just not good enough today. Its been the story of the season. Not enough quality in the final third to score.
A big thanks to Chris Greenacre for giving us something to cheer about for the last few weeks because its been fairly grim the last two seasons.
Im happy for Greenie to stay as coach and hopefully they let him recruit the players he needs to make next season a success.

Unless revenue changes I'm not overly optimistic about major outlays in our squad. I do think that the squad can be better suited to Greenacre's tactics and hopefully continued development of our youngsters. Another hope would be for WU to be back (and long shot for Canberra to get a men's team) so that might dilute Aus teams a little.

Hmmm. Is LKH a top 4 A league LB? Over the last two years he’s had some weak performances on the flank too.
It’s a position where a good visa player might be the go.

I don't think LKH is a LB at all and in preferring an inexperienced state league player for the role it seems Greenie doesn't either. While I agree that we need someone much better than Edwards it's unfair to pin the blame for both goals on him. For the first Payne could've and should've shut Behich down, for the second Edwards was undone by such a perfect curling through ball from Kuen that any defender would've struggled to deal with it.

Jeez City's flopping all over the show and constant complaining is getting tiresome!
100%. Match after match its the same shiite. Its almost unwatchable. Eze gets a bloody mouth from a swinging elbow, its a foul any league in the world, doesnt matter if its accidental. A player gets yellowed for a pullback then its ignored for the rest of the match.
Every match now is just two sides fouling the crap out of each other and rolling around on the ground.
Im kind of pleased the season is close to ending. Its becoming dull to watch.

Yeah Tim Payne is the primary reason we lost that game. A defender who is seemingly going to be starting at the World Cup needs to be better than that, that first goal did not need to happen.
As for all the fouls, I don't understand why referees aren't encouraged to officiate games the way the ref did in NZ vs Chile. Cynical fouls all the time break up 90% of attacking plays and result in there being far less goals. More attacks and goals and less attacks being broken up needlessly would be a much better entertainment product.
But I seem to recall hearing that the A-League have intentionally gone the other way, having a higher threshold for fouls to "keep the game flowing", that they think the Australian public wants things to be more "physical". What we see seems to be a direct result of this approach.

Well there goes our slim hopes of making the six, and maybe Greenies chances of keeping the job into next year. We looked well short of ideas, basically left to bombing it long for Piper and Eze to chase, which city defused pretty easily.
The cynical fouling isnt so much of an issue for me, what annoyed me most was the constant falling to the ground like you'd been shot, by the city players! Every time they got touched! Time taken out of the game and forced the ref to stop play.
Oh well, two games left to build some pride for next season maybe, but then a lot of this lot will next be back next year!

Felt like a pretty anticlimatic and toothless performance. As theprof said, it was just either long balls to Piper and Eze or when we did try build up play it would exclusively be down the wing to put in a cross.
A note on Rufer is that he barely puts effort in tracking back - it looks like a light jog back to get goal side. This puts pressure on someone from our back line to step up to put pressure on the ball, and creates holes in the back line. I do still rate Rufer, but as captain, those are the sort of moments you need to lead by example.
Thought Edwards was fairly poor unfortunately, it's a weird squad composition that he's our only real LB, with LKH not being a natural in that position and Armiento being a winger.
Perth did do us a favour last night if it still matters. If City lose next week and we beat WSW we could have a second bite of the cherry...
I'd be fine with Greenie staying on board this season, I think the lack of creativity from this game was just a symptom of going back to basics, pretty hard to apply a fleshed out playing philosophy when you only have 4-7 games at the pointy end of the season.

I think you are right. But the beautiful game of skill has been ruined. There are several other rules that just seem to be ignored, like it takes an age to get a goalkick taken, they shouldn't be waiting for players upfield to be ready and keepers should not be taking kicks from the "opposite" side of the box. Also ignored is when players touch the ball away when a free kick is given against them. And keepers are supposed to be able to release the ball without being interfered with, recently I have seen players dancing in front of the keeper- all ignored by the ref. And then the like of the round the neck holding against Piper v. Victory, apparently not a penalty.
The amount of arguing and ref coercion is ridiculous too.
All the above needs to be stamped out.

Piper is definitely now a target at attacking corners for the opposition. Kuen yesterday very lucky to get away with it, and a shocker by a VUC defender last week.
The Nix/Greeny should be raising it with the APL. Squeaky wheel gets the oil and all that.

While the game last night was disappointing to watch, it was probably as much self-inflicted as due to the quality of the oppositiion.
M City defense performed way above what M Victory dished up for us a week earlier (did they just underestimate us?), and as a result we could hardly get a shot on goal all night. At the same time, our number of wayward passes and poor finishing did not help. It was already visible against M Victory when we did not convert several sitters; last night they were very few and far in between yet we still did not take those chances.
Agree with others that Edwards showed lack of experience at A League level, but I would not be too harsh on him; no player on our books is perfect for that position.

Our creativity in attack is a major issue that needs to be addressed before next season. As has been pointed out often the problem is simply that we have too many players who struggle consistently to hit an accurate pass or cross or find team mates in tight situation.
We really have too many journeyman players. Najarine is our designated no10 but 2 goals and 3 assists in 22 games is just not enough. Nagasawa has done some good stuff but is inconsistant. Apart from that we have Piper huffing and puffing but he is just not good enough with the ball at his feet.
Eze has been good but has battled alone for much of the season with little service.

I was thinking about that game against Adelaide where we attacked relentlessly, this was the starting line up. Could we repeat this, but instead of James have Bill T. Would also mean dropping Payne, Piper and Retre to the bench. Honeymoon period with Greenie is over now, top six is pretty much over now so why not mix it up a bit.
