Tuiloma's move proved that he's not as good as people thought he was.

This game could spell the end of Greenie's chances for the full-time gig.
Regardless of whether your in the Greeny camp or not, it's fair to say it won't do boo to his chances. The same administration sat on its hands for over 18 months while Chiefy-ball sent the performance into a death spiral. Tonight's game is a perfect summary of the train wreck last two years.

We need to get our fighting identity back and be onwards and upwards to bigger and better things next season!

I feel our identity was the game against Victory that we won away at AAMI. We'll never be the biggest club, never have the biggest stars, but the team work hard and play as a group and really fuel that underdog status that we'll always be. We're not a team that fouls a lot, or keeps a lot of possession, or plays intricate little triangles or whatever - but the identity is one of a team that is more than the sum of its parts, we kind of had that under the first Chiefy season and before that in a run of 4 or 5 finals appearances. Never flashy but you could never write us off. We've shown this again under Greenie so far, but today is not one of those days, we look like we don't care.

Tuiloma was never a regular first choice player in the MLS. I always thought he looked a defensive liability for the AWs. Wasn't surprised to see him be one in his first few weeks for us, but in the last few weeks I'd been really impressed by him, thought maybe all he needed was a run of games... but tonight is maybe a wake up call

This is f***** terrible. Kartum can piss off - yeah lets not press Braton on the edge
Nearest player was FRC, who kept a respectful distance. He's been poor tonight, as usual. Play broke down with him several times. Has a heavy touch, and not much to make up for it

Hope bazely is watching this. Aside from a delicious cross Payhe was been woeful. Actually pissing me off  - i can handle his shocking ball rentention but his positioning has been awful. Hes maimg inverted runs amd leaving a man wide open. Just playing refklessly and leaving Bill fully exposed.

Give me Callan any day on thsi showing for the AWs. Need discipline not just a few great crosses for Woodsy..

FFS this is awful, not care nothing! The lads look completely lost! Noone stepping up to lead. Josh O's comms are so bad! Fist goal, why is he diving when he should be calling to his defender to get the fuck away from the ball and come for it.
Midfield without Rufer is aweful, shows why Coinhies has been out of the squad for so long, he and Retre are just bad!
No connection, no fluidity, ugh!

Queenslander 3x a year.

Disgusting performance.

Apart from the chap leaving, Eze.

Drag five at half time and sub them to show this will not be tolerated ever again.

Auckland will rise once more

Has to be a bunch of changes at half time. Get someone who gives a shit on the field. Greenie has papered over some cracks in his short spell but the cracks are still there.
Mentally this team is so weak. Collectively they just give up. Combine that with too many journeyman players and you get tonights performance. This has been brewing for the last 18 months.

For years there are those who continue to bag Alex Rufer. To be fair, more on the FB site than here.

Quite why this is the case I know not. Even a cursory glance at what happens in his absence should dispel any doubt about his quality.

Worst thing that happened to him was being traded from Portland to Charlotte. Hasn't been the same player since.

Was a more than useful player in his time at the Timbers, but he also played more as a DM at the time.

Love this mate. Really well put. That's the spirit I hope we can get back to as a club and fanbase next season!

FRC and Sander were the ones I thought to come off, but would be interesting to see if we keep the same shape. I reckon a 433 but that would suite Armiento at LW.

Nope, that's the definition of a natural position.

I reckon the only reasons he is just an A League player is a bit of lack of pace and the fact it took a while to find his natural position.

To be fair to Edwards, I think we're far more stable defensively with him on the left over LKH.

Replying to my own post, but if we're playing someone who offers a bit more going forward like LKH over Edwards, why not Armiento?

People talking as though there is any chance that Greenie doesnt get the job makes me laugh. Gill was quite open from the very start, before Greenie even oversaw the first game after Chiefy left, that he had no plans of talking to anybody else.
and that mentality is why we haven't won a trophy in our existence.

FFS that was awful.  Losing 4 nil to those chumps. They were up for it, we weren't.  What a big fat disappointment.
Gave their keeper his first clean sheet, their first clean sheet since January and let them take 7th spot on the table.  Game was lost in the first half.

Positives.  Sarpreets free kick almost going in

Farewell and thank you Eze, one of the rare bright spots in another waste of a season and someone who actually gave a shark!

Hard to feel any hope about next season after that. No doubt about it, Rufer is going to be an absolutely massive loss if we can't retain him, but I don't blame him at all if he wants to leave, especially after seeing tonight's showing.

Worst thing that happened to him was being traded from Portland to Charlotte. Hasn't been the same player since.

Was a more than useful player in his time at the Timbers, but he also played more as a DM at the time.
Tuiloma was primarily a CB at Portland. He had a great first half of the 2022 season at the Timbers mostly through his goal scoring exploits, and that saw Hay pick him for the big Costa Rica playoff. He scored some absolute bangers in the MLS pre that playoff game.

Remembering that this was an AWs team sans Singh that except for Wood and BT had no one scoring goals at a decent level.

BT scored 6 goals for the Timbers in 2022 MLS. But by the end of the season his defensive frailties were constant, and he was a bench player. Traded to Charlotte 2023.

BT sat on the bench in two MLS Cup Finals for Portland, both of which they lost, without ever getting on the field. So you could surmise he was never quite trusted enough for the really big games

If it was a 23 man WC squad he likely misses out but being 26 he probably gets picked. More so given must be some concern over Payne’s regular hammy injuries
