Greenie is Nix through and through in this panel interview. So comfortable with mediocrity. This is what I was fearing. We need a cultural shakeup and I dont think he is it.

Well, that was forgettable. At least we didn't needlessly pass the ball backwards too much. A little more direct going forward but an error prone defence and utterly toothless attack has let us down yet again.
That's the season done beyond any doubt.

On another note, players I definitely don't want to see again next season:
Nagasawa (toothless)
Retre (seems mentally absent)
Najarine (has he done anything?)
Mileusnic (just meh)
James (bang average)

I'll go to the Chch game as its close to home, bit think my SKY subscription will be canceled today. Save myself some $

Seems fairly harsh on Nagasawa and James based on today’s effort?
They're both not up to standard. James has no presence at the back and ball watches. Nagasawa isn't terrible but represents our issues in midfield, which in one word I'd describe as lackluster

Sleeping walking to a loss here, no urgency or motivation it seems 😔
That's not what I'm seeing. They look plenty committed to me.  Problem is this team just doesn't have enough high quality, game changing players to produce some big chances.

Yep. Najjarine, Armiento, Nagasawa, Piper aren't collectively going to terrorise sides. Mileusnic and LBS don't lift it except for fresh legs and some different strengths and weaknesses. Solid but not spectacular. And ultimately not enough. But I thought the effort was there and they kept their heads up this time.

That said we were close to Sydney and without Eze.

Lesser sides coming up. So some hope still of getting a bit of a run on.

Armiento had several crossing chances in the first half and proved he is no Devries. Thought Retre was solid and constructive but faded a bit - prob just lack of game time. People will disagree but Rufer's yellow was fair, but also why we love him, combative and physical. The goal was a bit soft but incisive from Sydney. Tuiloma a bit slow covering after the ball in behind, I thought, and the match ups to stop the cut back seemed hesitant.

Kind of happy to see a less calamitous and better worked game.  Long periods of us being the better side. But ultimately undone once and couldn't find the finish up front.

We'll want to take Perth and see if Greenie can build cohesion and finish and just tidy up those moments at the back.

I think Nagasawa has been pretty decent this season. Whether 'pretty decent' is enough for an import player I'm not sure. Ideally we want someone who is going to make much more of a difference.

James has some good qualities as a defender but he's been found out badly on multiple occasions and, again, as an import we simply need better.

Same goes for Oluwayemi: bring in an import keeper and he's got to be top notch otherwise what's the point.

I feel like we need someone with better accuracy in what they are attempting in that playmaker role over Najjarine. Not going to say he doesnt put the effort in but the end product/or success rate isnt at a higher enough standard to make a positive impact on the game and create oppurtunties for the guys further forward.

There were a couple of occasions in the first half where he was far too slow to release the ball which killed the attack after doing some really good build up. That annoyed me as he still tried to pull the same pass but two second too late. Needed to be sharper than that.

Yup.  Studs Up podcast.  Ricardo was absolutely damming about our imports.  Total clean out required on that front. Maybe the Khartoum guy is worth holding on to, if possible…dunno.

Oh well… the weather was nice. I saw some happy kids carrying around their chips and tomato sauce, that made me smile.
The game? That was a bit underwhelming, no obvious calamity was a plus point. Piper is very good at getting himself into great positions, but this was his 3-4th one-on-one and he couldn’t score. I would like to blame him and the referee, but this would be unfair. I was missing the urgency, some frantic action to win. The trainer’s change and the whole making it up to the fans totally evaporated in second half snore fest. But the kids with the chips were uber cute!

Update: Forget to mention, Sydney played rubbish.

Just platitudes from Greenie in the post match press conference. Really underwhelming performance from him today

Edit: the one interesting thing he said was him seeming to suggest he wanted to give a few players the chance for redemption after a bad showing last week and that influenced his starting xi. Disappointing attitude for me

Dissapointing post for me.  We're not the best. There are issues to address. But you are a consistently negative, whiney beast.

Oluwayemi had a great game.  Good to see a coach lifting players.

He is 34yo, okay for an import player and is not going to get any better from here. I don't mind him, but I wouldn't renew his contract, we need a near-total clear out of senior players.

First half committed, second half less so.

Hope there is a good turn out for the last home game to see off Rufer, Eze and struggling to think who else will be missed.

Auckland will rise once more

Oluweyami,  yep, he will be much happier tonight.

I didn't see enough change. Too much passing back, no more initiative than before, no more urgency than before.

Maybe next week, but will anyone watch?

If we had Eze, we win that game.
Agree that...1st half we showed real enterprise in getting into the final 3rd and feel Eze would have scored at least 1.  The goal we conceeded was similar to the May goal last week...a ton of defenders in the box and none marking the goal scorer.  The associated looks at each other to the effect of "I thought he was yours".

Still a solid performance against a team at the other end of the table without our key goal scoring weapon.  I don't think it's a case of accepting mediocrity but if you break down how they played for most of the game we should be happy.

On a different day/ref we may have been awarded that Pen and think Eze would have scored from the chance Piper had.  There's enough there to build on for a coach one week in the job.

Joshy can hold his head high. He made some nice saves, and there was hardly anything he was gonna do about that goal. Great response after what can only be described as a career-shortening mistake.

I'm not sold on him staying on as keeper next season, but I'd love to see a huge resurgence from him and firmly earn the spot. From everything I've heard, he sounds like a lovely, down-to-earth person, so I hope he does well.

Putting him back further into his box seemed to suit him much better, with his distribution from the back not being bad either, even when under pressure. I noticeably wasn't clenching every time the ball got passed to him.

Also really nice to hear others in the fever getting behind him during the game.

3 Sydney players free to score the goal.

Tuiloma more worried about putting his hands behind his back than actually shutting down the cross.

James leaps out to mark a man 2 others could have shut down.

Plenty of ball watching going on.

On another note, we look pretty bloody toothless without Eze... It's like when the balls at our feet, no one wants to be the one to take the shot, and they just endlessly pass it around to each other in the box until a Syndey player puts their foot in and we lose it.

Was hoping Piper was gonna step up, but he fell a bit flat really. Really needed to score that 1 on 1 early on. But to be fair to him, he wasn't given a whole lot to work with, and I don't rate him to create chances out of nothing like Eze can.

I thought Tuiloma had a good game. His long throw (despite one scuffed attempt) could be a really powerful weapon if we could actually score from corners/set-pieces!

Finally, what a sharkty ref. I know I've got yellow-tinted glasses and the VAR call wasn't his decision to make, but that was about as one-sided as it could get. The fact that they could kick us, and kick us, and kick us, and get away with just about everything, yet we walked away with the majority of yellows is criminal.

We had our chances to win or draw this game, but it never helps if the ref is allowing you to be beaten up, killing any momentum you have going for you. Noticeably their fouling got worse towards the end of the first half, as did our on-field performance.

That and all the Sydney players rolling around with "cramp" or whatever. Ref should've been stamping that out, but as per usual, let them perform their best Saving Private Ryan impressions, rolling around like they'd been shot.

Made the game incredibly frustrating to watch. Now I'm on the other side of him, god I hope we didn't play like that when Uffie was coach.

See this is the loser mentality at the club I talk about. 'He is a nice guy so he deserves to get given yet another chance'. People wrote Sail off for worse (who is a better GK IMO). Josh is a National League goalkeeper at best.

I said it about AFC when they had Woud and Matt Sutton was free due to Western United. AFC should have signed Matt Sutton and we should have had a crack.

We need an established GK, not one that has blunder after blunder where the point that you feel safer when AKH is in goal.

EDIT: the fact that six people liked your comments proves why we have not won any trophies in our existence.

Twenty years of Sydney.

I hope the powers that be at the Fever HQ smile on my give a little as follows:

Hi,

Passionate Wellington Phoenix fan. The VAR has cancelled a second penalty call against us when it has no business being involved. It compares poorly too, to interventions in the second derby and another recent intervention to give us a penalty that was rejected by the onfield referee.

I’d love to fundraise to send them an Isuzu Ute load of bullcrap or a bag of dicks or some appropriate gesture chosen by someone wiser than me at the YellowFever HQ where I will be sending this money.

No one deserves this more!

Please consider supporting this important work.

tell you this, if we lose by 2 goals on Friday. Greenie can kiss his A-League managerial career goodbye. to deliver this dross is bad.

We've only won like 3 times in Adelaide. Taking a point home should be an achievement at this rate!

...Or is that too much of a "loser mentality" for a team who perennially sharks themselves in South Australia?
