If that was the case, I better sit in the away section when Smeltz plays..

If your supporting him when he is playing for GCU then yes. Football is a team sport. This concept of supporting 1 player doesn't work for me.

What about the phoenix and David Beckham?

If you want to wear a Gold Coast strip then the same rule applies.  Away Zone.

We don't want the press from confrontations, particularly after last week so if you're in red you want an aisle beginning with 3, not 2.

What does being a fan of an individual player in a team sport involve?

J.C. let people wear what they wanna wear.

Just cause someones in another team colours, who cares, as long as they are there.
Sure theres t**sers who wear yellow too.
Judge them on them. Not on a colour of a shirt.
Obviously if they are there to cause probs, deal with them.

Smeltz was bad example... very bad

I think you can still hope someone plays well without wanting the team to win.

When we saw the Beckham game did you not want to see him play well? and if so did that mean you were less of a nix fan?

No, we all want him to play well and the Phoenix win.  The discussion point here is that by wearing a Liverpool shirt you are demostrating your support for Robbie Fowler and by extention North Queenland, rather than supporting the local side.

Therefore it is not appropriate to be in area designated for the 'active' support of the home team.

This is right. I too want Smeltz to do well in the league, just not against us!!

boo him, call him judas and give him grief. He expects it. Mossy seemed to love it on the weekend (which isnt good if it makes them play better). Its not like he's gonna start crying over it or something.

I never want former players who move to a team in the same league to do well, simple as that.

I do not know why some people are arguing this.

The last thing that is needed is someone to scream out for a 'nix player to break Fowler's leg, and then a bunch of Liverpool fans get all antsy about it.  We are very lucky that there is no need for crowd segregation at the RoF, and relationships with away fans are great (as opposed to say Melbourne and Sydney's relationship) but football is a passionate thing, and with large quantities of alcohol around it has the potential to create a flashpoint.  More bad press would really damage the Fever's reputation and have a massive affect on crowd numbers.

Liverpool fans - wear your shirts, squeal everytime mr potato-head touches the ball and have day-dreams about sucking his cock all you want, but be a bit respectful to the actual game going on and do not do it in the fever zone.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

You blasphmer! The order of the Fowlerites would be aghast at such language. they would take nourishment from his horn of plenty.

(and that would be bad press too)

Fair enough Hard News, I understand where you are coming from and I will be in the away end as I can't leave 30 years supporting Liverpool at the gate. It's a Phoenix home match so I respect the "local" rules.

Please cut some slack though to the supporters who aren't reading this (and probably dressed in Red) and don't realise (or want to enjoy the Fever atmosphere) they should be at the other end.

Should be a good crowd and yes I still hope it's Nix 4 Fury 3.

I would be very surprised if both smeltz and mossy arnt expecting some stick from the fever zone when they come here.GCU will probably be told they have the worst keeper in the league and smeltz will be given the who are ya.

Fever zone is and should only be for as it says above supporters of the Wellington Phoenix FC oh and maybe the odd stabby who decides to pay a visit.

Cant imagine to many turning up at many grounds in the UK to sit with the home supporters wearing another teams shirt.

of course it stands to reason that with the signing of Caceres the wearing of Hull City shirts in the zone is to be applauded

Fowler was a great player for Liverpool, but he's not a Liverpool player now?  I really don't get this, how are there any split loyalties here (and I'm a Liverpool fan!).  You don't have to boo him, but I don't understand how supporting fowler, an ex-liverpool player, takes precedence over supporting the phoenix?

Anyhow, everyone's entitled to watch the game and support who they like, but the main thing is not to cause anyone any grief I guess ...

Of course it's great to see him do well against other sides, but there's no way you'd ever get me in a Liverpool top with the away fans hoping that his TEAM beats my team

Jonesy - we all know that you're the Northern Colin Montgomery when it comes to having plenty of clubs

When he was at Blackburn did you have an uncontrollable urge to pop in to the home end at Ewood wearing a Liverpool shirt ?

Or even more aligned to this, how about when Blackburn played Spurs in London, did you feel the need to wear a Liverpool strip with Fowler on it in to the Spurs home end to show your support for him ?

...but this is even more strange as you are a Phoenix fan.  If you want the Phoenix to win show your support for the Phoenix.

As you can see I just don't get it at all.

So your first shag was Robbie Fowler ?

You sure you couldn't have done better ?  I mean, he's no oil painting.

Hypothetical situation -
I am a Man Utd and Rooney fan. He comes and plays for Fury against Nix. I personally wouldn't put on my Man U jersey to the game just for him - That would be odd!!

that's the beauty of sport,  we all admire and like to watch good sportsperons? Whether it's Jarrod Hayne, Dan Carter, Ronaldo, Tiger woods, Usian Bolt etc etc but might not want them or there team to win but you watch cause it's great sport. Robbie is past his best but he still has some class in him.

Permalink Permalink

No one is denying his class, and I doubt anyone will claim they won't enjoy watching him, but there is a difference between enjoying the skills of a player and wearing club colours that represent him rather than the colours of the club you actually support.

As I said, I don't get it at all.  I've followed Ipswich for 31 years and I don't care if it's John Wark, Kevin Beattie, Matt Holland, not for any money would I wear an Ipswich strip to a Phoenix game.
