Please stop with she-nix/he-nix tags, they are daft and so 90's. It's so much easier to just say both nix teams (we all know who they are).

Anyone know where I can download a list of fixtures to put in my calendar? A-League Men's one was very easy to find, struggling with the women though.

Sydney FC were last years Premiers. So certainly a good pre season game to have for the Nix team to gauge where they are at.

I’ll definitely give this a go.
Interesting the young kiwis are all the minimum $159 where the young Aussies are $200 - $250 lol

If we're keeping this thread going, can we change the title to A-League Women?

5 goals in a game at that level is a fantastic achievement. She must still be no 1 striker for Ferns?

Let’s not forget at the Olympics she was only half fit, just returning from injury. But great that there are younger players coming through now to challenge her.

Cool. Good to see proper home and away. I hope the Nix Ladies play their games before the mens as a double header or visa versa. Would watch both.

Good that there seems a genuine drive to make season longer, and improve it's quality.

Hopefully someone like Daisy Cleverley who has signed for the top women's team in Denmark becomes a target for Nix ALW, if their seasons don't overlap much. I'm guessing Danish women's league has a 3 month winter break.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/women-in-sport/300624938/aleague-women-to-expand-in-two-stages-over-next-two-seasons

The exodus of Matildas to Europe, with many citing the need for more playing time at a high level, has harmed the ALW's quality.

Townsend conceded it was inevitable top players would depart but wanted Australia to be an option over Europe's lower leagues.

"We've got to make sure that we make it clear that moving to a second-tier league in Europe is not a better proposition than staying in the A-League Women, which I think is a bit of a misconception that exists at the moment," he said.

"The number of matches is certainly going to be a positive reason for Australian players to stay."

Townsend was optimistic the extended season would help develop more quality players to expand the Matildas' talent pool long-term

The seasons, which will have international breaks, are significantly longer than the likes of the AFLW, NRLW and WBBL seasons.

"The way in which we're going to roll this out, we think is going to set a benchmark for women's sport in this country," Townsend said.

In line with the current long-term collective bargaining agreement, signed ahead of last season, the league's minimum salary will rise more than 50 per cent over two years.

"Thanks to the genuine partnership with the APL, the players have played a central role in helping to design a competition that delivers meaningful employment, a professional career path and a strong and sustainable league that will develop the next generation of Australian talent," PFA co-chief executive Kate Gill said in a statement.

Yes extra games and expanded season means the ALW girls will have 4-6 weeks longer in a professional training environment.
Australia result for their age group team have been underwhelming.
Last night an Australia team (made up of mostly ALW players) lost 1-0 to Allan Stajic coached Philippines. Aus are calling there team U23 but they do have some over 23 players in it and some U20 young matildas. These kind of results highlight how much Australian womens football development is in dire need, and ALW expansion/ more games is a start.

Regarding Nix ALW team (Just speculation). I expect Marisa van der Meer will sign for the Nix as she didn't get much game time last year at Mel City. Am hoping That Annalie Longo can make it work, playing for the Nix since they will be NZ based. And also hoping that Rosie White will look at the Nix as an opportunity to make a late run at getting into the Ferns team for a home world cup. Maybe these are wishful thinking. Maybe we need a Nix ALW squad speculation thread?

I saw an Instagram post from Grace Jale thanking the Nix for the opportunity recently. I hope it doesn't mean she might be heading elsewhere.

I guess the more NZ women in the ALW comp the better. And with the Nix only able to sign 11 NZers I think NZF would like to see as many NZers in other A league teams as possible even if that weakens the Nix, i guess it means opportunities for others. It has worked out OK for Claudia Bunge, Liz Anton etc.
It would be a shame as it would be great to see Jale kick on at the Nix. But you don't know maybe she is going to Scandinavia or Scotland?

Actually I think making them double headers actually does a disservice to the women - should be an event in its own right. Could mitigate costs by having them over the same weekend... maybe even the women at the Basin - to be honest that is my dream for both teams!!

But I think if you have them on the same night you will simply dilute the number of fans you get for the women. Sitting for a full match, then warm up, then another full match makes for a very long day/outing for many I feel.

Not sure that would impact in a meaningful way. I for example travel for games, I couldn't justify traveling on two days however would come down early to watch the ladies if they were before the men.
Everyone's circumstances are different and there will be some put off for double headers but at the same time others like myself would be put off for different days.

Like it or not, the men's team has more draw. If we make it a double header then it gives the women's team more exposure and a crowd.

Ground costs and TV coverage works out way better for one day and two games rather than two games over two days.  My recollection from the U20 world cup and double headers was that the time inbetween games gave you much better opportunity to get your food/drink rather than the bunfight during the 15 minutes at halftime.

The A-League men stop for the world cup in Nov but the women play from mid November. So I guess there will be a game or two where they can not do double headers.

Yep that's what Van Egmonts was on last year for the Jets. But I think there is a cap on how many games they can play.
For the Nix can probably only be an Aussie player or it would mean one less NZ player.
