Really happy to see we have secured her, she looked a very good prospect at the end of last season.
Agree, she looked effective
football tragic for too long

One year deal for Michaela Robertson

What with these 1 year deals?
Won’t they want to lock these players in with the AU team coming in next year?

This will be the first season standalone without NZF involvement. Did they get much cash from NZF? Or was it more NZF paying wages of coaching staff who were working for both organisations?

Anyway hopefully the 1 year deals are not a sign the women's team future is under review. Dome has spoken strongly of Welnix's commitment to a ALW side, but still it must be an additional drain on the coffers, unless they can get some better sponsorship deals. Which could happen leveraging off the WWC.

Multi year deals in the ALW are a rarity, it is just the nature of it being a semi-pro comp. It really would be nice to see the club lock some of the players into longer terms if possible tho.

2nd played 3rd in NPL NSW as Kelli Browns McArthur Rams team won 3-1.
A goal and two assists for Kelli Brown this week.
In other games of note. Mona Walker and Rebecca Lakes, Tigers team beat Ava Pritchards, Uni team 1-0.

The write ups on the nsw npl website are singing Kelli’s praises. Watched the highlights and she is in good form. Will definitely be playing ALeague next season. But who for?

Wonder if other A-League clubs are gonna get cash for signing a Kiwi player again.

Be interesting, seeing as NZF isn't involved in the program anymore.

I'd like to see
Van Der Meer or Clegg would be super good
Wisnewski, Taylor, Barry, Foster all still training with the ferns so probably unlikely.
Brown would be a nice surprise.

Clegg probably will be heading to a US college?

Crazy if she does. She already has a pro career in front of her now. US college system was probably a good option a few years ago or for those struggling to crack pro level. But only playing against other same age college girls seems to be a bit of an obstacle in personal development and there season is kinda short. But she can talk to Foster, Collins, Jensen and the likes.  There is a reason why Aussie girls don't do the US college thing, but then they have more opportunities to play ALW.

Really? I'd say college football has worked out well for the USWNT last couple decades...
The quality of AWL was very poor last season. Only a couple of Matildas left in it
Plus its a free degree, personal independence, life skills. Yes they are playing similar age group but average age of nix women team is 20 and sydney city 22 so not much of a diff. College path aint for everyone but not to be dissed as a viable option for some.
And yay Mack is back!

Might seem harsh but unfortunately none are currently a league standard. Good on temple for being brave enough to make the decision because it wouldn't of been easy.

Candy is the only one that stood out to me, mainly because I think it signals that we want to re-sign Edwards and Alfeld.

I am surprised by both Candy and Pritchard. I would have kept both of them. But hope they go on to find an awesome team somewhere and we pick up improved recruits.

5 goals in 32 games, Pritchard just doesn't score enough for us to make the play offs.

I think we missed Gomez as holding mid last season but she was always injured. Most other teams didn’t have 3 keepers on their books, but now we should have depth to use academy players if we need extras on the bench. That means we will have space for another outfield player if we just have two keepers. Those players that want to push on and get alw contracts next seasons seem to all be playing in Aussie state leagues- I read Walker, Gomez, Pritchard and Lancaster are, unsure of Candy and Vosper. so hopefully they stand out there and get picked up. Even if not this season they are all still pretty young so can still make it professionally later on.

Only one I am disappointed to see depart is Mona Walker. Thought she was a useful and versatile utility player and a tidy footballer too.

I totally get that point. strikers gotta have.much higher returns. But we could also look at how the team was setup, the amount of ball we had in the final third and the quality of chances she was given. I can’t say that any of that was the best either.
Anyway, I hope she goes be a gun somewhere else and we get a striker in who creams it.

She just doesn't have the quality. Her hold up play was poor, but equally with the ball at her feet driving towards goal she was poor. Butchered a fair few chances too

This is the first real indicator that the NZF / Nix women youth development program is now over. All these girls have real potential and in some cases very lucky to have had the opportunities at A league level they had. Now we get to see if they have the real desire to be a pro (not easy to do in the womens space) but encouraging to see Prtichard, Walker and Lancaster turn out in the NSW NPL comp. No reason there can't be a pro future for them yet. Be interesting to see if the others end up at the Nix acadamy or what they do. Gomez I think must be still injured. There is something not right going on there. She is not turning out for Northern Tigers NPL teams she played for last couple of seasons.
Can't say these girls didn't give 100%. But in reality finishing bottom 2 seasons in a row. There has got to be changes. Not just to the team playing roster either. Be very interesting to follow further developments.

Pritchard,no surprises at all!
I thought Gomez was well good enough- probably other issues involved there.
The others were fringe players,so it will be great if we can recruit someone better.

So whose next Rolston, Satchell??

There must be lots of players both kiwis and Ozzie’s that are waiting to see how they perform in the World Cup before deciding where to sign on for next season. Surely if they can head straight to Europe that has to be better than another season in the ALeague? Our top 23 ferns should all be able to join teams similar to those who played in Scotland, Scandinavia or even WSL in England (Eg Moore, Stott, Hand) hopefully next season if not this season. Thinking of the likes of Barry, Clegg, Foster, Edwards. There’s a few of the male players where there’s two of them at the same club- not sure if they made the transfer at the same time but surely that must help with getting used to the new environments. Eg Sligo rangers?  and Brondby? Would be great if some of our females can wrangle the same type of deals. Looking forward to our last warm up game. Will be great to see how the dynamics have improved with the teams interplay. I expect they don’t want to let the cat out of the bag totally with their tactics and set plays etc. So it might not be the best display that we all are hoping for. Anyway, it will still be great to see.

When I saw the subject line of the email saying "goal scoring defender re-signed" my first thought was, I thought we already had Rufer signed longer.
