Pretty hard to find a venue with optimal transport/parking options (and not next to a zoo)

This is a really good insight into the coaches thoughts.

Would have thought Hutt Rec might be worth a shout with expected crowds should be able to get by with just the small stand thats there. Then again the pathetic Hutt City Council would prefer to waste money on a cricket pitch that will probably be lucky to attract 100 people to a game.

Thought I heard Dome on a podcast say that the cost of setting up all the TV related equipment at an alternative stadium in Wellington for the womens team, was way more expensive than anticipated.
Probably the best scenario for the organisation is to have double headers at Sky stadium as often as they can. So you'd think that aligning the men's and women's schedules to some degree would make sense.

i'd be surprised if the Nix had to pick up that cost, I'd have thought it was Sky, or Paramount.

VAR and goal line tech are not a 5 minute job either.
I thought they would be a requirement.

They were going to for this season, but you are likely right, they may have not followed through with that.
Did they use VAR for any of the double headers at Wellington last season? It seemed some decisions had a bit of a delay at the games I attended, which included all the double headers.  Or maybe that was just perception.

You’d think it would fall short of a bit of criteria though. You need more then a pitch

Pitch, lighting, stand, facilities but I doubt it would meet TV standards.

Just on this Voerman article on "why can't our womenfolk score goals": I've always had this very unscientific "feeling" that it's because girls in our system are trained specifically not to be goal-hungry because it's "selfish", and we overemphasis passing play. Am I talking nonsense or have other people noticed this?

I'd say it's not just a women's football thing but a sporting cuture thing that's being trained at the moment. So many coaches are taching kids to look for the pass over taking the shot. So much so that open shots are not being taken.

what you don't want is the young athletic players developing the mindset that the way to score goals is to dribble around and outpace everyone from half-way and slot the ball past keeper in 1v1.  What gets you your McDonalds player of the day Happy Meal voucher aged 8 is not going to get you a Visa Player of the Match trophy in your 20's.  Eventually you will come up against defenders who are as athletic and as quick as you are, and you  have nothing in your tool-box to counteract them as you have not been taught how to scan, pass, and move etc.

yeah but if you dont have the hunger/drive to shoot and score and you only thought is to pass to someone else you end up with noone scoring.

We are delighted to announce the women's second signing out of the U.S.A.! Exciting young fullback Hailey Davidson has signed with the Wellington Phoenix for the 2023-24 Liberty A-League. She recently returned from a short stint at Mallbacken in Sweden’s Elitettan, following a celebrated collegiate career. Welcome to the Nix Hailey!

Just a warning - if you Google "Hailey Davidson" you get a prominent transgender golfer, that must be a bit tricky to explain in Florida

Great signing - Hints that she is an attacking wingback rather than a defensive wingback in the presser released perhaps we could be looking at playing 3 at the back + wingbacks? with the number of defenders, we have currently signed. Something like Davidson Barry Taylor VDM Foster

Maybe Taylor is the holding destroying centre mid we missed last year when Gomez was injured?

Possible 41212 lineup. Bring in a striker or two, Taylor can drop into the backline when Foster and Davidson bomb forward.

Coach Paul Temple talks up an attacking game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BaNfGZZfbk
We are going to need a few more forwards in the squad for that happen. Currently heavy with midfielders and defenders.
Surely the next few signings will need to be genuine forwards. Strikers and/or wingers. Looking forward to seeing who he's got lined up.

That confirms it then, Newtown Park.
No parking for the bus, so attacking football it is.

Yes.
Lily Alfeld is still struggling with injury by all accounts.
I wouldn't be surprised if they bring in an import keeper.

A backup keeper to Bri Edwards? Or in place of Bri?
