If not to be Jenkins (who if it was her you think would already have been signed), Jacqui Hand would be a good pickup.

Sorry to ask but I need someone to explain it to me. How is it they are able to use Tessel Middag import spot? I understand she is injured but she would still be technically on contract no? Or do we only have 4 visas currently (injured and not injured).

Looks like we might have 2 new players before the end of the month

long term injuries there is the ability to have an injury replacement player. so the cap space and visa space of Middag can be used on a new player.

Ahh okay thank you. So in theory same thing could've happened for the men for Ishige?

come on, announce the signing.
Window closed on the 29th Dec, so it is done and dusted. Guess they are waiting until the team get back from Aussie to announce it.

Turning into a long wait.

Bev only got back yesterday (I was on the same flight), so maybe they gave her today off before she fronts up to the media?

Media opportunity below. IIRC this is earlier in the week than usually they usually do coaches and players on different days
Wednesday, January 7
Phoenix women’s head coach Bev Priestman and a player will be available for all-in interviews before training at NZCIS ahead of the team’s round 12 Ninja A-League match against Melbourne City at Porirua Park on Saturday.

From a quick internet scout - Woods started off as more of a defensive player but during her time in the US collage system, she pushed further forward. Looks like she is now most at home up front and as an attacking midfielder. I can't find much on her time in Iceland but she scored a goal every two games(ish) in her last season at Kentucky.
Sounds like a handy player with plenty of potential. Hope we see the best of her.
I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

Doesn't sound good re Samba.

If it is season ending Jacqui Hand and Maggie Jenkins, are two off contract Kiwi options for the Nix.

Looks like they finished second last (9th) and got relegated. They scored 30 goals in 21 games.

She also played against Hassett twice and scored once.

Looks like she was there top goal scorer with 9 and regularly played 90 mins. Left footed from what I can tell from some highlights.

yeah I can't understand how Jenkins keeps missing out..watched her play v auckland and just so dominant and such a skilled baller.
Cant imagine the Turkish league where Jenkins did well is far below Iceland..possibly even better quality.

From her self-description Woods sounds a bit like a Corban Piper, which is promising because we could use some more physicality up front.

Looking forward to seeing her play!

Visa players are always important in the ALW, we saw how much the Nix struggled in the first two seasons where we didn't have any. I have no problem with us using our full complement of five.

That said, is there still space for Jenkins? She's a good striker and our options up there are currently just Samba, Main and Woods now?

Agree far too many happening but think Sambas is a little different, hers is from contact unlike Alyssa and i think Tessels

Reading the full release it says "It is the second contact ACL injury of the three and due to the significant level of force there is nothing that could have been done to prevent it" I can't remember who though between Alyssa and Tessel was the other due to force ect.

Players who were uncontracted on the 29th Dec can be signed. The nature of the Women's game probably means there are a lot more options available.
