Does this mean Whinham is not likely to be signed? Bev said that now they just have scholarships.

Assuming I haven't missed someone, we only have 17 senior deals there. Afaik the minimum is 18.

It beats me as to why they haven’t announced that she’s re-signed for 2026-27, but she’s been with the team rehabbing since they returned for pre-season. My expectation is that she will play for the Phoenix this season and many more after that, but it has only been 9-10 months since her injury — be surprised if she’s available in the early rounds.

Bev in one of her interviews talked about Whinham being on course to be available to play towards the end of the year. Said it like she was part of the team. But haven't seen any official announcement. Guess there still waiting for her to pass certain fitness metrics.

Not sure how this will affect us.

This from a WSW post.

"The A‑League Women has been hit by an immediate roster upheaval drama after the league’s new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) - which has been rumoured to have recently been agreed to between the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) and the Australian Professional Leagues (APL) - introduced changes that have rendered dozens of pre‑season youth scholarship arrangements invalid."

Apparently scholarship players have to  know be under 20 is one part of it.

Benson is 20, Vlok under 20. I would have thought that any existing scholarship deals (or at least for this season) will be honored as you may end up with teams breaking salary cap or player # rules.
