And Berisha got a blatant kick out on Durante reduced to 0 on appeal. Logic doesn't really come into it, they should reduce it to 1 game but I wouldn't be surprised if they keep it at 3.

This was three match ban downgrade to two matches on appeal. That's massively worse.
Golden boy Grant though.

Think it’s clear that the only clubs that can pull a crowd in a regular basis is Victory and Sydney FC
2ndBest
Just a comment on the crowd number and some people's disappointment. Here are the crowds from this weekend.
City/Western 7,501
Brisbane/Macarthur 8,521
Sydney/Victory 21,840
Phoenix/Adelaide 8,325
WSW/Perth 8,984
Welnix must break with 8K after charging almost double for the season pass.
they may be double but you also get access to the women's home games too

Some people don't want to have to pay for access to womens games, if they are only going to the Mens game.

that's the purchasers choice then aint it, the season pass is sold as a package deal, up to oyu to purchase the pass or not, you coulod just purcahse individual tickets but I suspect buying the mebership is still cheaper.

Absolutely correct. However, its a lot of extra expense if someone is not interested, or cannot afford, to go to the womens games. There will be people that only want to see the womens games, where is the option to buy womens games only season membership? I believe that there will be quite a few potential memberships not taken for this reason.
Hopefully we can get a bigger crowd this weekend, (& all three points) so that those sitting on the fence will bite the bullet!

What a crock of shark. Yeah it was a red card, but how does an obvious accidental slip with no serious injury caused constitute a 3 match ban. What are they smoking over there?

Dude, I came on here to say exactly the same words ("what a crock") after I read the news. Had they been this tough on Australian teams, the likes of Kevin Muscat wouldn't have played more than 50 games in their career!
It was CLEARLY a slip. I'm OK with the red card as it was unfortunately a bad challenge but anyone who is blessed with half decent eyesight can see that A) there was no intent and B) the lad slipped and that is what caused him to collide with the opponent.

As an acid test I ask, if someone has a high elbow (say they're running or protecting the ball) and turns and inadvertently hits someone in the face, do they get sent off? I'm not so sure.. Same applies here, there was no intent, it was a slip. Fine, red card him if you want but you're having a fudgeing laugh if you think he deserves a 3 match ban.

At least our new Australian signings know what its like to be dumped on by incompetent match officials. We get them more than the other teams. If you're gonna be harsh, be harsh to both sides.

I have no joke, I just think it's hilarious that Wellington has a left-leaning mayor called Tory
"Tory" was an insulting name for the English Conservative party from the Irish tóraí, meaning "outlaw", "robber", from the Irish word tóir, meaning "pursuit" .
I wouldn't be calling my child after that.
Also short for Victoria.

  • I'm not defending the ban or the red card. I just think that they would say that there was no effort to reduce the danger to the opponent during the slip.

    this this and this,
Particularly as it was Ugarkovic's forst real game after being cup tied! He will link up better with Lewis, the second half showed that. Penninton will be benched for the forseaable future. Once Ugarkovic is up and running (may take a game or two) I think you'll find the wide players will find more space and get better sevice.
I've just rewatched the match. I like Kraev and Zawada. I think that they both create real problems for the opponent in attack. They also get back and do their fair share defending. Ben Waine is amazing, he needs to be starting. I like Kosta, he puts more than his fair share of work in, and he's dangerous.

I know that you're taking aim at me, so I'll do the Pennington agent bit. In my opinion, based on this one match, I think it would be a shame to bench Pennington permanently in order to play Ugarkovic. My view of Pennington today was particularly good. He pressed very well. He was comfortable on the ball, showing that he's starting to settle into the A-League. None of the all too often erratic play. 1 excellent ball to Zawada and generally good passing. Only saw one mistake.
In my opinion Ugarkovic was not particularly good, I understand that he lacks recent game time. But he's an experienced A-League player. He made 1 very good interception and another reasonable interception but that was his contribution. He had 2 of the best placed set pieces that anyone could ask for and both were executed very poorly. He almost doesn't press at all, that resulted in Clough having a totally free shot minutes before the equaliser. His range of passing was far from what I've been led to expect.

Let's hope Ugarkovic does better, I'm not Pennington's agent. I want the team to do really well. I'm entitled to my view. I know that I have a very different football background to most people on here and as a result I attach importance to different qualities.

not taking aim at you my man. I just see the Lewis and Ugarkovic partnership as Uffies best option to control the centre of the field and create the best chances for who ever is out wide.
Pennington does a job, but he is always good for one or two errors in the wrong spot. It'll either be a lunging tackle/foul cos he's lost the ball in shooting position or he misses his target with a crucial pass. (noone is perfect, but I think Lewis and Ugarkovic are less likely to do this)

When we have a fully fit squad we Uffie is gonna have a tough gig deciding who to play in his top 4. If Waine is to start up front with Zawada, the Kosta (who has to start) is gonna fill one onf the wide 10 spots, which bumps Kraev or Sasse to the bench. When Ball comes back, he is almosta guaranteed starter as a wide 10 - this is great for the squad as it puts pressure on your imports to perform week in week out. Sasse and Kraev may see a bit of bench time, especially with Ben Old in the wings pushing hard. Zawada may not always be the starting striker with Waine/Kosta either. I think Uffie will be looking at Waine starting and Zawada coming off the bench too.

Not sure i get the constant banging on about Pennington yep he does some good things but seems you must blink at the times he does make a mistake. Could maybe except it if there were a number of others banging on about him but that just isnt the case.
I think like Talay im a fan of the  Lewis and Ugarkovic pairing and at the end of the day its great to have some different options available to us. I dont envy Talays job in keeping every body  happy if they all stay fit.

  • You're right. I can't understand why nobody else has the same opinion as me.
  • I really rate Old and Elliot as well. But they get a lot of support on here. I guess it's because they're local boys. I try to look after Pennington like he's my local boy.
  • When I went to the match, 50% of me was there to watch the Phoenix, the other 50% to watch Pennington. And I wasn't disappointed.

That almost goal from Zawada looked great. Very strong and fast and how controlled the ball was superb. If he finishes that it would be a overall awesome counter attack goal.
I’m excited, all the new hires did a good job. This will be very potent attack if they play a few more games together.

I can kind of relate to your logic from when I watch Wood in the EPL (both when he played for Burnley and even his time at Newcastle), I will notice every touch and run he makes, etc. When you focus a lot on one player it's easier to notice the good (and bad) things they do. Often I'll think he had a good game due to winning several Aerial battles, etc, and creating space for others at set pieces, or even getting back to defend when holding a lead, etc, only to get fans in forums saying stuff like 'never looked like scoring, drop him, etc'.

I thought Pennington did well in the weekend (and also questioned him being subbed off when down to 10 as he seems pretty fit); I expect he will get a lot game time this season even with no injuries. He's certainly a competent midfielder at A-League level. I think Rufer will find it hard to get many minutes even once he is fully recovered.

He didn't get much of a look at goal but I liked what I saw from Zawada. He used his body well and I reckon Waine & him could play off each other really well.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe

I thought Pennington was very good, but still not sure who is best of the four

I think Lewis has the highest potential, Ugarkovic the most pedigree so far. Pennington has been consistently serviceable and Rufer has had periods of excellence (along with periods of mediocrity).

My ranking of the midfield options would probably be:
1. Lewis
2. Ugarkovic
3. Pennington
4. Rufer

Gentlemen. I want to see what you see in Ugarkovic. We've seen 3 matches involving Pennington and Ugarkovic since April. No one can tell me honestly that Pennington didn't come out on top based on these 3 matches.
Even Ugarkovic's tracking back is lazy at best.

He was very, very good when he played for the Jets, was a key player in their 2017/18 campaign where they finished 2nd and were robbed in the grand final.

Ugarkovic hasn't played for the nix this season. he's played 40 mins with Lewis. Ugarkovic is by far the better player. He just needs a game or two to get back into it.

You need to pull your head in trying to look for faults in other players to justify your arguments for your favourite player, Ugarkovic has proved himself over 165 A-League games & he holds the A-League record of most consecutive games played & he has never been called lazy but rather always committed to do the grunt work.
So you commenting on him being lazy is just showing how much you can see the game through the eyes of somebody who is one off track when trying to justify your argument.
  • I'm not the only person on here that feels free to criticise players. I am the only one on here that's out on a limb, backing a fringe player. Nobody has any hesitation in criticising Pennington. All I'm doing is balancing the discussion.
Let's hope that when somebody else makes a criticism of a player, you make the same point to that poster. 🙄

Another point. I don't start these discussions. Guy's here know that they can bate me in. Because I'm addicted to this forum, I fall for the bate.

Your unabashed and unwavering love for Pennington is something else.  I absolutely get a kick out of it each time I see you in here commenting about him. I love your passion and think that this is exactly what the forum needs - without passionate people like yourself saying 'controversial' stuff this forum would die so thanks :D . Go Pennington!

I completely disagree with you of course and see Pennington as a fantastic filler but not much more - a great player to have in the team when injury strikes.
