Thought Rojas had lost control of the ball when he got fouled, but you'd have to say a sliding tackle like that would usually get a booking. One of those ones the ref just reckons the penalty is enough. This ref has seemed pretty lost a lot of this half.

Yeah smeltz took it. The dirty beard makes him look like brockie on a shark stream. Nice run from Rojas to win the pen. Beat 4 or 5

Myanmar's tactics seem the same as my AFF Div 4 women's team - through ball to fast striker and hope like heck (s)he connects. Disturbingly it's almost worked at least twice.

Boxalls passing has been so bad

Permalink Permalink

Well we haven't been able to out pass them. Passing has been weak. Difficult conditions, but. Lobbing the ball in equally ineffective.

Has to be Kosta and Marco to dribble through them from the middle of the park and lay off to Smeltz or finish.

So the Nix got rid of him just in time, then?

Yeah he is far too casual and given away a lot of ball. Doyle too.

We were lucky in that 1st half, Hope 2nd half is better.

May I know is the opposite side of the stand is absolutely empty? Seems the attendence was quite poor. Also I can't spot the difference of Brockie and Smeltz, they are new "beard" twins...

Norwich City supporter since 1992, New Zealand supporter since 2010 but without Rory Fallon's winning goal against Bahrain, I won't know about New Zealand Football.

Brockies the one that misses and Smeltz will bee the one that scores

I like Myanmar's ads

The Burmese ads they're having on at half-time are quite cute.

All we've seen on the positive side is that Rojas can be awesome and electric at times, and Smeltz can finish. The rest has been disjointed. Pitch doesn't help, but hasn't excused us chucking the ball straight to them. The better Pacific Island nations would be a good chance against this Myanmar side.

So Hudson has had a week of contact time and he has produced this? He should be embarrassed or admit he is out of his depth now I think.

I seriously doubt this would be any better with Wood, Thomas and Smith, the players that Hudson did not pick is frustrated not to have. Smith would be an upgrade for Boxall for sure but...

Yeah I agree. Solomons, Fiji, Tahiti.... They should fancy themselves against this lot.

Im not a Hudson hater but I can't help but feel a Neil Emblen side  would have put 5 past these guys by now

As for the pitch being poor, if we were under pressure on the 1st touch or having our passing options shut down quickly then I agree, the pitch is less than ideal to play quickly. The problem is that Myanmar are sitting off and not really pressing so we do have time for a 1st touch and we do have time to find the right pass. Its just that we don't and are kicking it long too often.

I would like to see Doyle dragged for someone else.

who is supposed to be on the ball for us though? we really don't seem to have any urgency getting it forward and they are staying fairly deep.

Bingo. There in lies the problem.

We heard this week about the flexibility of these new tactics Hudson was introducing but we have not adjusted from the 1st 10 minutes when it was apparent what Myanmar would do.

They are playing 3 or 4 quick passes quite well. We're playing like our team is- a team that doesn't play together much. Perhaps the brief period of success was due to many of the 'Nix playing for the same team.

Biggest lol was in the first 10 minutes when Dewhurst said All Whites usually play a 'continental style of football' under Hudson.
