The rest should go after tonight's result. And the news  media might even notice it.

Extensive match report found here..

The worst 'extensive match report' I've seen.

They don't okay well outside of West Asia though. I think it is more they play comparatively worse at home then they do away. Either way I expect the same level from them. We need to up it though.wellyphoenixfan2009-10-11 06:58:28

To be honest for NZ at Sunday 6:54 am I'll take a mention, I thought there'd be nothing till about Tuesday.  And knowing them they'd somehow manage to say we lost.

Agree 100%.  All to play for in Nov, that's what we wanted.

Me too. I was afraid they would dominate but on seeing the Bahraini team in action they are well beatable here at the ROF...
Now from today, got to recruit a few more fence-sitters who haven't bought their tickets for Nov 14th yet.
C'mon NZ....  the Casbah's done and dusted .....        lets "Rock the ROF!"

Good subs by Ricki by the way. He struck me as managing with a lot of confidence in the team. Football manager aside, the man has UEFA Pro, and I thought it showed.  No panic. My main worry at HT was a big fade by NZ in the heat for the closing 20 but it didn't seem to be a factor, and the subs brought a good bit of spark.

Was very happy to see big shows of frustration from Bahrani players - you could see them losing their cool, and mistakes creeping in (to match our lack of posession in the mid field, but I think that helped keep in even at the end - us tired, and them feeling too much pressure form the event.)

I felt we lacked a little bit of hussle, tight marking etc....seemed to be floating though the game at times...happy to bring a result back and oh yeah I won $40 Thanks TAB
McGlinchey must start, Wood is gonna turn into such a legend!

Botafogo - Rio de Janeiro and Wellington Phoenix, my two teams til death do us part.

Considering the risk at trying this set-up away to Bahrain it worked out ok.
As you said Addicks, I was also worried about NZ wilting in the heat.Ricki bringing McGlinchey on then added a no-nonsense spark.. replacing Brown rather than Bertos was smart though I didn't think so at the time and Chris Wood looked threatening too when he came on.
My only worry today was the defensive NZ players hanging off and giving too much room for Bahrain attacking players to gather and pass ..and shoot too often too.Siggie played well but beaten too often down right. Nelson class...please stay fit for 2nd leg Ryan!

little Mac made all the difference when he came on - HE IS CLASS !!!!!!!!!

but for the love of god Elliot is so sh*t, he compliments sh*t. GET HIM OFF, he offers nothing going forward. (did you see that 'volley' FFS PAINFUL TO WATCH !)

Bertos, Smeltz no where to be seen Killen.... meh.

Fallon did all right, and Wood did good when he came on.

Nelson was also class - he made one surge playing as a striker he did better than the front 3 (that is embarrassing)

agreed. we seemed to hang off their players until they got around the penalty area. we need to hussle the opposition in their own half and give them less time on the ball to set up a pass etc

sorry, that is a friggin ignorant comment He was by far the most composed on the ball (save Nelsen) and the one who kept possession and spread the ball around. If you watched his first touch and one touch passing you see why he played in the Premiership. Did you watch the Confederations Cup????

mcglinchey was good, yes. Brown will be challeged for his position by Mcglinchey in the home leg. Again, Tim virtually didnt feature when we had possession and passed the ball away most times he had it.

the one surge as a striker in the first half outclassed the front 3. (it shouldn't be happening)

oh please, Elliot passes back or sideways. he's too old and is only in the team because of what he has done in the past.

little Mac >>>>>> Elliot.

I was pleasently surprised by Ricki, he managed with confidence throwing the three strikers, I expected us to revert to two in the second half but no bought on Wood and also surprised me bringing on McGlinchey for Brown a more attacking move again.  Thumbs up to Ricki.

Nelsen was brilliant, showed he is pure class, god I am glad we have him.  Siggy and Vicelich also played well.

Big congrats to the team, it is a fantastic result, now they just have to step it up in Welly and take the win!!

whooooooo they played plenty of defenders behind the ball, yes we were a bit lucky not to concede but we battled hard and it's a great result.
any genuine reason why you're so negative?

ARRGGGGH!!! you embody the things that are wrong with our country, we have become a whinny whinging defeatist people, even when we get a good result some people act like its a loss.

For goodness sake they are ranked 64 we are 100, they were only just beaten  by Aus and Japan at home so yes they are bad in front of goal & not as good as I thought but they are not the donkies you make them out to be.

If it was a game against on of the Island nations then we would all have a right to be upset at the result but it was a tough away game in a hot unfamilier enviroment against a team ranked almost 40 places above us, be happy for goodness sake.
